OT-Gable Steveson wins HW Wrestling Gold
This is an incredible come from behind victory for the Minnesota Gopher. Worth the watch. The Georgian is gassed at the end.

Wow! That must have been incredibly exciting to watch live.

I don't think I watched it live (just caught it when I was rolling through the channels that had Olympics on at the time) but since I didn't know what happened and it might have been live ... it really was one of the best I've ever seen!
Who wants to explain what happened for me? I assume it has something to do with the end about being able to spin around him and get control over him again and the other dude being too tired to not let him do that?
With less than 1 second to go, he got credited with a takedown, worth 2 points, to win the gold medal by one point. He accomplished it with less than 7 seconds left to do it. It's basically a hail mary to win the Superbowl or a walk-off 2 run homer with 2 outs and 2 strikes to win the World Series.
He got credited for the takedown the moment he spun around to the back of his opponent who was not on his feet.
It's even more than that. He took him down with about 13 seconds to go, released him, and took him down again as time expired. His opponent appeared to be completely gassed and Steveson had superior conditioning.
This! I'm going to show this match to my kids and ask them why he won the match. He won due to superior conditioning from lots of hard work and training.
Yes, I saw it live but I don't know wrestling scoring. Steveson was up 4 - 0 I believe. Then the Georgian got 7 straight. He had Steveson on his belly and managed to roll him over a couple times. Looked like it was over. They were tired. Then Steveson got awarded 2 points twice in just the last 15 seconds or so, including 2 as late as possible.
USA USA! So who gets this guy first, Dana White or Vince McMahon? Personally I'd like to see him in MMA but either way I'm sure he will do great.
MMA has been great for college wrestlers. When I came out of high school wrestling was something that ended with your college career. Professional wrestling didn't have much appeal to most due to the fact that it is scripted.
When UFC and other MMA events became available it gave wrestlers a true professional sport to pursue. Even though many of the useful holds and other moves are illegal in NCAA wrestling that work well in MMA, most wrestlers know them, and know them well. Training to add some punches to their arsenal is all they really need.
As for Professional wrestling, we will always have the Steiner brothers! Go Blue!
The NFL seems like it would not be out of the question.
6’1” 275 ball of muscle, strength, quickness, and relentlessness with the hand combat skills to control his man. He could easily carry 35 more lbs.
Mo Hurst? Terrence Taylor? He could be a nightmare.
He's made it well known he wants to be in the WWE, and I assuming his price just went up quite a bit. He was at Wrestlemania this year behind the scenes and as a guest. Its probably only a matter of time.
This kid is a great athlete and as long as he keeps competing could be one of the best ever IMO
Impressive performance from the American Freestyle Men's Wrestlers.
2 Golds, 2 Bronzes (Gilman got a tough draw but still got Bronze), and Snyder wrestling for Gold late tonight/early tomorrow morning (4 AM ET if I am doing my time zones right).
Stevenson's back-flip after winning the Gold Medal too! Incredible athlete!

As a bonus... + Myles Amine a Bronze at 86 Kg for San Marino.
Thanks, I'm finding the lack of olympic wrestling coverage extremely frustrating. Even finding brackets seems tough for some reason.
Is it just me or has NBC been horrible this Olympics?
Maybe it's the time zones, but I never see USA soccer, basketball, water polo. And it is rare to catch any track, baseball, softball, swimming, diving, and handball at all.
All I catch in prime times are junk soccer, cycling, golf, etc..
What is going on?
I used to live on wrestling and boxing, but It is never on.
Nbcsn and usa network both have coverage of the Olympics as well. I think there's an Olympic channel as well. If you have cable TV, you can watch literally any event at any time live on NBC's Olympics streaming site without commercials. I assume it's some feed the Olympics produce themselves. The announcers are different from the ones on NBC broadcasts, even for the same events. Mostly British except John Buccigross has been on for track. I'm in quarantine after flying back to Korea and never watched so much Olympics before. Same time zone and can't go out anyway.
Oh if you like water polo, you've been missing out. USA is more or less the American Water Polo Network. It's almost nonstop in the later night hours.
I've grown to believe water polo is a stupid sport, but it does look like a great way for very fit 30-somethings to get in on that Olympic Village action
He is a BEAST!
Probably worth noting he was up by three with under 90 seconds left. He gave up 6 points and had to comeback late.
So, you’re saying it’s worth noting that even when things weren’t going his way, he was still clutch as fuck?
nice …. I’ll note that
I said nothing of the sort. But I thought the description in OP did not cover the whole story.
What a finish! Never gave up! Gotta be a proud dude right now
His celebration is what the Olympics is all about! Congrats to the young man.

One of best Olympic stories so far! Incredible finish!
