OT: Funny Michigan reference in recent SEC Shorts

Was that the last time Nebraska beat Michigan?
September 16th, 2023 at 1:43 AM ^
I don't know if it was the last time, but Nebraska did beat Michigan in 2005.

The most recent time was in 2013. They also beat us in 2012. I don’t understand the video’s reference. We lost to Notre Dame early in 2005 but that wasn’t really a memorable/notable loss. Did they mean 2007?

I'm thinking 2007 is a better candidate, as you say.
But if they did mean 2005, maybe it's because Michigan was ranked #3 before losing to Notre Dame and then dropping to #14.

He meant that the early season loss to Notre Dame presaged all the injuries and ill fate that befell them in what Brian termed The Year of Infinite Pain.

I think they must have meant 2007. I'd be very surprised if SEC fans knew much, if anything, about our '05 team.

[Nevermind, I got the years mixed up myself].
Anyway, SEC Shorts is never not deeply unfunny. I'LL GO TO MY GRAVE BELIEVING THAT.

I miss Stuffing The Passer.

I laugh my ASS off. But I, sir, have a sense of humor.😂

He definitely meant 2007.

Agreed—pretty sure they were going for the 2007 App St/Oregon start of doom

True story. During that year’s loss to the nuts, my row in the student section was yelling and jumping so vehemently during the final, infuriating defensive drives that the bleachers collapsed under our feet.

So it was funny, but not "ha-ha funny". Funny like a clown. Like amusing.

He's a big boy. He knows what he said

It’s just….you know…..the way you tell the story, it’s funny. You’re a funny guy.

How am I funny?

about as funny as other SEC shorts ... which is not that funny
September 16th, 2023 at 11:50 AM ^
I think they're great.
September 16th, 2023 at 2:06 PM ^
I thought of them as good not great but now that M Dog said he thinks they are great I now think they are great.

That's exactly the level of humor I expect out of a YouTube series sponsored by a regional bank.
September 16th, 2023 at 8:22 AM ^
This was a waste of time and not remotely funny The reference to 2005 was so oddly placed it’s not worth even trying to make sense of it. And can we find a way to make Pat Macafee go away ?

sleeves?

I’d bet money that he meant 2007. It’s the only nationally famous time a Michigan team was suddenly removed from contention in week 1

I was wondering if they got confused with 2007 Michigan. We lost to ND in 2005 but our first two games in 2007 did emphatically change the trajectory of the season. We did end up contending for the big ten title that year too, which is a lesson for everyone that gets (understandably) forgotten
September 16th, 2023 at 10:53 AM ^
I’m not sure their writers are confusing 2007 with 2005. Just last year in their emergency room short, they referenced “The Horror” with Texas A&M giving us company and also asking about a time machine to 2007 regarding a ND loss to Marshall.

I think some of you are missing the point while focusing on 2007. He's lamenting that these teams in the second week still have a lot to play for because a collapse in week 2 isn't predictive of the future.
I imagine that there's plenty of teams that could look at week 2 and accurately feel this way though. So this is probably more a dig at the Michigan fans who constantly comment in their videos than it is an anomaly. MSU last year made it to week 3 before the writing on the wall became permanent.

That's why it makes more sense to be 2007. Death said he doesn't look to take out teams this early, Michigan notwithstanding. 2005 Week 2 we lost to Notre Dame but still had a lot to player for. 2007 we were a national laughing stock with the loss to App St and then the absolute blowout home loss to Oregon. It's true that we still could have won the Big Ten and even did go on to have nice bowl win, but come on.
No one outside Michigan remembers Michigan's 2005 season. If they really did mean 2005, that is a serious deep cut for an SEC fan.
