OT: Fox Sports - ten coaches that MSU should consider

The following article (not paywalled) from Fox Sports touches on the coaching situation in EL and identifies ten candidates should Mel not return to the Spartan's sideline.   Here's the link - and the list of coaches.

https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/michigan-states-next-move-10-potential-coach-candidates

  • Mike Elko - Duke
  • Lance Leipold - Kansas
  • Pat Narduzzi - Pitt
  • Mark Stoops - Kentucky
  • Dave Doeren - NC State
  • PJ Fleck - Minnesota
  • Jason Candle - Toledo
  • Sean Lewis - OC Colorado
  • Matt House - DC LSU
  • Harlon Barnett - Interim Head Coach

Any thoughts on this list?   If you were the AD - any coaches "stand out" - which ones?   Fleck's caught my attention.

"second most important football rival" ???

Boy, you need some education.  Michigan football's biggest rivals are:

1. OSU

2. Notre Dame

3. Robert Strange McNamara

4. East Dakota

5.  PSU

6.  Scott Frost's Mom

7.  USC

8.  Illinois

9.  Cornell

10. The ghost of Alonzo Stagg

11. Michigan State Aggies

I'm surprised Leonhard didn't make the list.  Many thought he was going to get the HC job in Madison, before Adam Sandler took the job.

He's probably salty enought about being passed over that he'd be willing to step into the cess pool.

I have long said that Lance Leipold should be the next coach at Iowa when Ferentz retires. So he'd be a great coach. That said, in the likely scenario that Harbaugh leaves for the cheeseburger-apathetic NFL, I would in a heartbeat take either Elko or Leipold to replace Harbaugh. So the advice I'd give to Harbaugh - if you are planning to leave for the NFL, let the administration know your intentions the second the  OSU game is over so Michigan can make the hire, effective the second the national championship game is done. Don't let State take your best hire when Harbaugh is waiting for the NFL interview process to play out.

My guess is that it ends up being Narduzzi. They don’t think they had a culture problem under Dantonio, despite how it looks to outsiders. And Narduzzi has done about as well at Pitt as you can expect someone to do at Pitt, so it feels like a natural play for them.

State has an interim president; an AD who's been there two years and was part of the team that spent 95 million bucks on Tucker; and the best they could do to attempt to salvage their season was to bring back Dantonio.

If I was coaching and other suitors were to come calling I'd be awfully hesitant to take that job.

They'd be smart to reach out to WSU or Oregon St's coaches and see if either of them is interested.  The WSU guy has the vibe of the kind of coach who would be successful at MSU.  By that I mean, hardnosed, embraces the underdog roll focusses on defense...
