OT Dylan Larkin...One More Goal, One More Assist, One Less Chicklet

Submitted by DOBlue48 on
On an otherwise quiet sports evening for those of us who have washed our hands of Swenson-Gate, Dylan Larkin scored a goal and had a bad-ass assist shortly after he donated a chicklet to the hockey gods. Love hockey players.

Those who play at a high level will tell you that it effects vision. Probably does. That said so does a 100 mph puck in your eye. I don't get it. Kid that I know is a first year junior hockey player where they can wear just shields. He got a skate blade to the chin. Lost 3 teeth and took about 50 stitches to close his lip up. Oh well, chick's dig scars, right?

It definitely affects your vision when the puck is at your feet. In fact there has been a lot of talk about the NCAA eliminating shields soon. Maybe as soon as next season. That is also do to a perceived carelessness that players develop as the result of not having to worry about whacking a guy in the face with your stick.

I'd disagree with the others. I don't think it has any impact on your vision. I took my cage off because as a young hockey player, as soon as you can, you do. And as soon as I could take the visor off, I did. Honestly just didnt want to be lame. Now I'm in my 30s and have to pay my own medical bills. Visor has been back on for years, and probably headed back to a cage soon.

All of the NHL players grew up wearing cages from the time they were kids.  They didn't all of the sudden forget how to see the game through the cage.

It's definitely because of the culture of looking tough and not being intimidated.  I also think the NHL is ok with it because aside from ian laperriere there aren't too many career ending injuries and also for marketing reasons.  Seeing NHL players' faces helps the fans connect with the players.

Don't get me wrong... I certainly respect the "Red Wings' Way" of player development... meaning keeping the kids in Grand Rapids until they are ready... It's worked well over the last 20 years.

But, it sure is nice to have a kid be drafted already ready.  This team would be out of the playoff picture without him.

Because I am an old man with little to no tech savvy and even less patience to go out and find a pic of it and then figure out how to attach/embed/link whatever.  Did not realize a pic was a mandatory aspect of an OP.  Our colleagues have done a fine job of supplementing the post.  My thanks to them.

doing anything to the ref, while Larking is on the ice bloodied missing half a tooth. Meanwhile Mickey Redmond is just cracking up in the booth, thinking this is old time hockey!.. post game was just as good with Larkin thinking maybe he should lose more teeth in exchange for two point games.

Gotta love hockey players. Imagine if a baseball player chipped a tooth. 2 months on the IR?
