OT: Disney imagineers building Americana park
Some former Disney Imagineers have been contracted to build an "Americana-themed" 125-acre amusement park off of Route 66 in Oklahoma.
American Heartland will have 6 distinctly themed areas that each tell a different part of "the American story."
Maybe I'm underestimating the South but why on earth would anyone want to visit this place? For one, you could just actually tour AMERICA if you're already here AND how the fuck do you talk about the American story without acknowledging how deeply fucked our history is?
I can't imagine that they'll have a zone about slavery, or colonization, etc. Maybe they can have a theme with Washington crossing the Potomac, but, again, you can go fucking see the Potomac - it's IN America, lol. Seems a little odd to me, but then again that Noah's Ark park is still open and operating in Kentucky so I'm sure the park will do well. Maybe they can get Garth to promote it.
I hear what you are saying but the fact of the matter is that every nation has warts / unflattering history. But the mindset that people are not allowed to celebrate they good because of other warts is utterly ridiculous. No one is perfect. No nation is perfect. But to take the attitude that “Oh whoa is us. We had some bad ancestors that lived is a much different era with much different values than we hold today.” Is utter BS. For people to judge and try and hold today’s society accountable for history that happens 150, 250, even 350+ years ago is BS. Can we learn from history to be better? Certainly. But to take a position that we are not allowed to celebrate many positive things that have happened over the past 350 years is a losing mentality.
To add on, I think people should go re read the July 4th thread and the Juneteenth thread on this board. They went in very different directions.
No way, Man. The US is the fucking country in the world anything bad ever happened in. It's not like perfect places like China. Or Russia. Or Bosnia. Or Japan. Or India.
All those places are perfect because the people who have always lived there have always been perfect.
Thanks for illustrating the point I was making in the post right above yours.
I only take my MGoBlog history lessons from Sal!
Was in Greece in May, there were Greek flags everywhere!
While Vermont's governor is a Republican, he would be a Democrat in any other state.
JFK and Nixon were politically aligned and friends from the Senate.
lol--Nixon HATED JFK like a sickness.
Not according to his memoir
It's on the tapes. He constantly rants about his hatred of JFK and the Kennedys. People who knew Nixon confirm the obsessiveness his hatred. He resented Kennedy's wealth and privilege. Among other things, he believed the 1960 election was stolen. Their relationship changed as a result of that. It was a pretty bitter election.
And, yeah, Phil Scott is moderate enough to pass for a centrist Democrat. A lot of registered dems here vote for him over Democratic challengers.
I'm in Havana, Florida. Just north of Tally. It's nice to see another local Mgoblogger!
The little Michigan fan in your userpic just earned an upvote for you; he (she?) in turn deserves a treat.
Oklahoma, like our current state of residency-Kansas, is not a destination place. The Sooners do have some significant history to come clean about-so there is that.
Yeah like half the state being a Rez and clearly having very very little economic support. I drove through it once and it was depressing to see- like a ghost town where all the ghosts names were forgotten.
Most of them lost their reservation status because they fought for the South.
The Osage own their land and lease it out. Damn smart tribe, that one.
If it’s going to celebrate American history in Oklahoma, the address of the park should be 1830 Trail of Tears.
I’ve got a few things to say but I really don’t want to go there and get all spun up. It’s Saturday morning, the weather is nice and I’m grateful to be standing six feet above the grass rather than lying six feet below it.
This is just like your 5 question post, pot meet kettle. At least this post was properly labeled OT so your boy Mgrow doesn’t have to police it.
I don't think they were the same degree of incendiary.
Calling attention to the silliness of an America-themed park in America is incendiary. Jeeeeez
I think you have a point that can be summed up succinctly as,
It's a hat on a hat.
Wouldn't that be Alaska on top of Canada on top of the 48 States of the U.S.?
Being an asshole is incendiary. I'm familiar with it because I'm good at it. So are you.
well, good morning, sunshine!
This post is just like the 5 questions post? How does that make any sense whatsoever
They are both dumb and pointless on a UofM board. There, figured it out for you. Peace and love mgopeople.
Well that could be said about a lot of posts. But there's a notable difference between an ice breaker meant to engage the board, and a thinly veiled snowflake post.
This x 1 million plus tax
2 questions:
1. are you ever going to reveal to us all of your prior mgonames?
2. what college did you attend (assuming you did), and did they have logic courses there?
You really prove the Dunning-Kruger effect to be true.
Too easy, but I’ll try to be nice. First, irony of ironies, you paid extra for your ten cent word and you used it improperly.
second, you’re still too much of a coward to reveal your prior mgoidentities.
Livin rent free, lol. Peace and love quiver full!
wait. you show up out of the blue to attack me with some form of personal insult or snark. again.
you get neg'd by a bunch of other folks in response. again.
you pitch a fit and go on a neg-spree. again.
so tell me, who is living rent-free in whose head?
one of the first times you did this i offered you a peace. i do it again here. you can continue to follow me around and snipe, but i propose no more of that, and i will be glad to live by that, too.
your call, it'll be obvious which one you choose.
You're absolutely winning this exchange, XM.
thank you for the sentiment CB, but in a sense i'm trying to be a good egg and i don't want to 'win' anything; i want the comity of the board to come through. its fine to disagree about stuff, heck, you and i don't see eye-to-eye on every little thing, but we do so in the fashion of colleagues as opposed to combatants. i'm far from perfect and i might snipe once or twice if provoked, but in general i strive to get along with others and i think the vast majority of the board does the same. just giving it another shot here. ball is in WC's court.
You could’ve just ignored this topic
C’mon man. There is one and only one part of the country no one should visit and it is Ohio.
Ohio and Nebraska are both up there, yeah.
When my kids were little and we drove through Ohio they all cried. They were afraid they were going to melt or something. I probably needed to tone down my anti-Ohio rhetoric.
Great post
I'm sorry for hurting America's feelings
You can't hurt my feelings. If you are joking, good for you but it is a poor joke. If you are trying to annoy me then I take it you are asking for my help but don't know how to ask for my help.
Garth? Touch my camera through the fence!!! Any other Mommy’s in here?
I really like that
Maybe some people can't afford to travel all over the country each year to actually see America? Maybe a trip to this place is something some people dream about because of the costs involved? Perhaps some people, working multiple jobs to get by, can manage to save a few thousand dollars to take their family on one nice vacation in their lives?
Your post smacks of arrogant, elitist bullshit. Is Disney trying to make money? Of course it is! Companies are in business to make money.
The good news for the people that go to this park in the future? They won't have to see you. You'll be too busy traveling around the country actually seeing it...
What would possess you to think this is a good post?
What is the point of taking a shot at Noah’s Ark?!?
Foolish and glad it’ll get yanked down soon enough.
I think maybe I underestimated the patriotism and religious fundamentalism on this board. My bad. America is above all criticism. America is great, especially just the great parts.
