OT: D1 Football Coaches name their favorite musical acts
Brett McMurphy dropped this gem today: he asked each D-1 football head coach who his favorite band/musician is.
A few interesting selections that stood out to me:
Jim Harbaugh- Bob Marley; I did not see that one coming. Figured he was a classic rock type.
Jim McElwain- Earth, Wind and Fire; how is this not Great White?!?!
David Shaw- Sade; so smooth.
Nunzio Campanile- Billy Joel; wow...hard to get more Jersey than this match!
See anything else that is fun?

Jim Harbaugh's favorite musician was a guy who is notorious for his pot smoking? You have got to be kidding me.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
“Notorious” is such a closed-minded adjective, dude
October 30th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
The other guy who picked Bob Marley was BYU's head coach.

Don't worry about a ting, 'cause every little ting is going to be all right.

Not surprised at all that Dabo's is Garth Brooks. Show us the bodies, Garth.
October 30th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
I had this exact same reaction. Somehow you knew that Dabo's favorite musician would be Garth Brooks.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
Les Miles, Kansas – 21 Savage.....uhhh...wat?
also surprised Brian Kelly didn't pick The Killers or Deep Purple
October 30th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
Yeahhh there are very clear "hm, what do the kids want to hear?" answers in here. No chance Les Miles is listening to "a lot" on the way into work.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
Sean Lewis(Kent St) saying Drake is probably a real answer. I looked him up and he is only 33.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
By the same token, I have a hard time believing Kevin Sumlin (age 55), who gave the same answer. Was also pleased to see Frankie Beverly and Maze getting some love from the coaches.
”Don’t be (messin’) with my tape deck. You gon’ listen to this Marvin.” - Anderson.Paak
October 30th, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
Name a more iconic duo
October 30th, 2019 at 12:45 PM ^
TBH I can see Les Miles also being secretly british
October 30th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
Les Miles - 21 Savage
I would be very surprised if that was his actual favorite act.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
Mike Leach, Washington State – Neil Young. I can see that.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
Agree: Sung by America -oops, not by Neil Young!!!! Dewey Bunnell imitating Neil Young?
October 30th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
Neil Young was never in nor sang with America on this song. With that being said, you may be adding humour, and if so, I apologize.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
lulz America is a completely different musical act than Neil Young. Admittedly I learned in my teens that it wasn't a Neil Young song because it does sound like him in a sense. But, this is funny!
October 30th, 2019 at 4:19 PM ^
I'm old enough to remember Neil Young and America the first time around, so two takeaways:
I can never hear Neil Young's name without thinking of George Carlin's bit where he named a musical act "Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Sacco and Vanzetti."
And as long as I live, I will never understand why he didn't just name the damn horse.
October 30th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Because he has a heart of gold?
October 30th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
And he's gettin' old.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
So much country.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Yeah and a lot of it REAL country like George Strait, Merle Haggard and Garth Brooks, not that lame-ass watered down pop rock they call country now. Also, a couple said Phil Vassar. That's a pretty obscure choice. I like it.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Yep... Country music today drove me away from country music. If I want to listen to pop, I'll do that.
October 30th, 2019 at 2:06 PM ^
Not sure I'd group Garth Brooks in with Merle Haggard and George Strait. I don't think he ever did time, drove a truck, or blacked out for a week in Mexico.
October 30th, 2019 at 2:40 PM ^
You can throw Randy Travis in, if being blacked out in the middle of a street naked counts.
October 30th, 2019 at 2:11 PM ^
Country music now is just pop with a southern drawl. I am forced to listen to it in my girlfriend's car sometimes...for some reason she does not agree with me.

Hugh Freeze - Chris Tomlin
I wonder if he was listening to Chris Tomlin when he was with the prostitutes.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
For sure thought he'd be into Latvian metal band Sanctimony
October 30th, 2019 at 1:08 PM ^
hugh freeze being into bland christian slop is the hugh freeze-iest.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
Bland Christian Slop also happens to be the motto of Liberty University.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
His favorite Tomlin song is rumored to be "Lay Me Down"
October 30th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
I'm ashamed to say I laughed at that..
October 30th, 2019 at 10:48 PM ^
i ain't ashamed, that's just *damned* funny.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
Sort of surprised Mork's isn't "Tool"
October 30th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
I'm happy that's the case cause that would make me like him
October 30th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
October 30th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
Mork probably hears the Michigan marching band in his sleep.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
Mork listens to a lot of Conway Twitty tunes, like "I've Already Loved You in my Mind," and "You've Never Been This Far Before."
October 30th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
That would make me very sad as they are my favorite band.
October 30th, 2019 at 3:06 PM ^
only Walt Bell (UMass) picked Tool.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Ed Orgeron listing CCR makes so much sense. A guy who literally looks and sounds like he crawled out of a bayou swamp lists a band that writes songs extensively about the bayou.
Ironically enough, I don't think any of those guys are actually from the bayou or Louisiana. John Fogerty is from Berkeley, of all places.

In order of popularity
Kenny Chensey, Eric Church, Dave Matthews Band, George Strait, Eagles, AC/DC, Garth Brooks, Earth Wind &Fire, Bruce Springsteen, Zac Brown Band, Toby Keith, Journey and The Rolling Stones.
I’ve seen 3 of these live.
interesting tidbit: only one female act.
Doug Martin, New Mexico State: Alison Krauss
October 30th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
So have I, which three?
Also, if there's going to only be one female artist on the list, AK is a damn fine choice.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
Shaw picked Sade.
Fleetwood Mac also kind of counts as a female act.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
My mistake. Looked it over and missed that.
from all the ‘bands’ listed I’ve seen Eric church, Guns n Roses, Kenny chesney, zac brown band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, meat loaf, and Bob Seger.
last band I saw was Squeeze.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
I've seen six of them. Kenny Chesney (mostly for the girls in the parking lot with short denim skirts and John Deere hats), DMB, Springsteen (first concert at Crisler in 1980), ZBB, Journey and The Rolling Stones.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
One TOOL! And one Metallica. This list needs more metal.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Worst answer?
My pick is Chris Creighton (EMU) - The Eagles
