Personally I am not a fan of a lot of body hair but I’m pretty fortunate in that regard.

My daughters recommended I trim my armpit hair before heading to the beach so it can’t be seen if my arms are down.  Clean up and trim some of the longer stuff on the chest and privacy and your good to go.

Likeable fellow.  As has been said, Michigan was not the job for him.  SDSU is (and was) perfect for him.  I'll be cheering his team on in person on August 26th against the Ohio Bobcats.

I got to know Brady and his wife Laura when they were at Tennessee.  When he was named the interim coach, after the Butch Jones firing, he continued recruiting and leading the team.  His professionalism, even though he knew he probably would not be retained, was exemplary.

He is a natural leader and his honesty is always present.

Definitely a "reactionary hire" from DB to counter the "RABBLE RABBLE WE NEED A MICHIGAN MAN TO COACH MICHIGAN RABBLE RABBLE!!" shouting from the masses. Hoke bled maize and blue, and if he were successful long-term, I have next to no doubt this would've been the job he'd had until retirement.

Guy had a lot of faults as a coach, but it was easy to see why he could recruit so well. Just seems so personable and easy to like, and seems like a guy you could sit down with at a sports bar, share a few pitchers and hear some awesome stories from over the course of a few hours.

Can also never question his devotion to the rivalry and how "personal" he took it. His 2013 and 2014 teams had absolutely no business being on the same field as OSU, but he got his guys to show up and play their A-game against OSU, even when they had really nothing left to play for except their pride. Gave them a pretty solid game in 2014 that was close going into 4Q, and then could've (should've?) won in 2013.

I'm indifferent to the Shane Morris incident at this point. I don't think Hoke ever had malicious intent. The man cared about his players, but it was clear by that point he was just in over his head. Probably should not have been offered the job in the first place, but that's not his fault, and no one should ever blame him for taking it when it was offered to him.

It was his dream job. Any one of us would've done the same with our respective dream jobs, regardless of our qualifications. Gave Michigan his best effort, and that's all you can ever truly ask of someone.

In any case, happy he's doing well, happy he's taking care of himself. He's going to have a damn nice nest egg waiting for him whenever he decides to retire.

Except that the masses weren't calling for Hoke to get the job, but Harbaugh.  The general assumption at the time was that we were either going to hire Harbaugh, or bring RR back for a fourth season.  (It was widely believed at the time that Brandon - who was actually held in high esteem back then - must have some secret agreement with Harbaugh to come here after the Stanford season ended.)

When RR was fired, fans thought that meant Harbaugh was coming.  (The original "It's happening!") And then it didn't happen, and Hoke was announced instead.  This site melted down.

It wasn't until about a week later, when Hoke brought in Greg Mattison as his DC, a week later, that a lot of people calmed down.

Well of course Harbaugh was still the first choice, but it still doesn't mean my original statement was wrong.

After bringing in an "outsider," much of Michigan fandom likely wanted to pivot hard back to someone from within the Michigan family. Someone who would "get it." Even when Harbaugh fell through, I think DB still wanted to try and make sure he captured someone who had Michigan ties, so that's what I meant by that.

It has been quite a while since Hoke was hired here. I am struggling to remember who else was a serious candidate for the job? As in, who was interested when we showed interest. Obviously we remember all wanting Harbaugh and him going to the Niners. Les, I believe wasn't really considered after all that went down in 2007 and he had one of his best teams coming into 2011. I remember the board and the fanbase calling for names like Chris Peterson and Kyle Whittingham but I don't remember them being interested/interviewed.

The only name I remember getting some consensus about was Dan Mullen. Does anyone remember who/if anyone else was interviewed?

Mullen has been whispered as choice 2 in 2014/2015 when we got Harbaugh.

As far as other coaching candidates in 2010/2011, I’ve never seen any firm names. Per Bacon, Brandon made no strong effort to talk with Harbaugh about the job or mend fences for his academic remarks. He also only gave lip service to Les Miles just to say that he had.

Hoke was coaching candidate 1A, 1B and 1C and was perfect for what Brandon wanted: a “Michigan man” that didn’t have the profile of Les or Harbaugh which would make it easier from Brandon to micromanage Hoke, attend coaches meetings, etc.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.

I predicted that Hoke would be the next coach in October of RichRod's last season.  Hoke was the best coach available that would actually take the job.  Hoke's work at Ball State and SDSU was remarkable.  Unfortunately, Michigan's power ratings under Hoke never even reached those of SDSU.  It might have been different if RR had recruited a freshman QB or Hoke made it a priority to get a QB.

By the time of his final 2 years here I had quit watching. I couldn't stand him as the coach, BUT I realized it wasn't his fault. He never should have been hired in the first place, he would have been crazy to turn it down. He is a good guy and a good mid coach.

Wait, who is that a photo of? It looks nothing like Brady Hoke. That guy is about 100 pounds lighter than Brady Hoke. I need to keep some clapping just to make sure it's the same guy.

I still think he would have succeeded if he just assumed more of a figure-head CEO role and delegated the actual playing of the football. He was a great recruiter and loved the university. Not saying he would've made the playoff or anything, just better than what actually transpired.
