OT: Best Xmas present you ever gave/received

Submitted by a different Jason on
Gave: my wife nice jewelry. She says she doesn't like to spend money, that she will pick her own out, etc. Then she cries when I give it to her. Received: 1984, I was 10. My Dad got me my first piece of hunting equipment. The ripples from that one gift have almost ruined my life and marriage many times and I never properly thanked him.

Best gift I ever gave was tickets to my mom, dad, and wife for Michigan vs Iowa a few years ago. We sat at the 45 yard line about a 1/4 of the way up at the Big House. My mom grew up in Ann Arbor and was a huge Michigan fan. But had never attended a game live. She cried for a solid 30 minutes as we walked around the stadium and down to our seats. There's a lot more to the story but you get the point. She says that was one of the happiest days of her life.

Received: First Sony Playstation decades ago. I remember being really excited and my grandfather having absolutely no idea what the hell it was.

Given: 24-pack of individual beers, each from a different country.

Some really nice Akoya pearl earrings a few years back for my long time gf...I'm a pile and her still aren't engaged so that's the best piece of jewelry I've ever bought. I was proud years back when I came home from college and found out my dad needed a new tire for his car. It was a really expensive model tire and I went and bought it. Would've made much more sense to buy a pair but I sort of didn't know any better and didn't want to ask my mom to go in with me for the 2nd tire (or 3rd and 4th) but I think he really enjoyed that I did that...and literally wrapped a car tire.

to Disneyland as a teenager with money I made working. Received rose bowl tickets for the 97' season, I was 17 then. Had row 2 corner of the end zone opposite of the Michigan fans end zone. we had 2 almost empty rows around us. It was weird, but nice.

Received: My PlayStation 2 when I was in 8th grade. It was the first year they were out and they were sold out everywhere. I didn’t even ask for it because I figured it was impossible. My parents camped out inside Meijer because they heard a shipment was coming and they bought it as the employee took them out of the storage area. It was awesome, my puberty emotions couldn’t handle it and I think I cried...ok, enough of that.

Given: I might be wrong, but this year I got my wife, who is the biggest Disney fan in the world, a trip to Disneyland. We live in Florida and have annual passes to Disney World (last years Christmas gift), which she drags me to nearly every weekend (doesn’t even try to make me go during Michigan games), but she has never been to the original. Included in this trip is a week long visit to our best friends who recently moved to the West Coast. Anything short of tears and I’m going to be disappointed.

But best gift ever is the 16 year old from Bogota, Columbia... whose 3 younger siblings were adopted into a home in Wisconsin 2 years ago; who waited for 16 long years waiting on some family to say they wanted him to be their son; who learned that after he turns 16 on Dec 30, he will no longer be eligible for adoption and would spend the rest of his childhood in an orphanage....

That kid learned last week that an amazing family in Nashville will be adopting him and bringing him home just after New Years. That is the best Christmas gift I could ever imagine, both for the boy and for his adoptive parents.

Merry Christmas, friends!

Dad and I played a lot of catch in my life. I got him he s first new baseball glove since he was like 14 and signed it thanking him in 94. He takes that glove everywhere. I don’t know what my best gift received is. I love giving them.

Thought long and hard, drove back up to the UP from Detroit (TSO concert last night) this morning with my family but they were all in their own world.  Best memory of mine is when my two daughters were under 7 years old, so I'd say 6 and 4.  I brought home a santa costume from work.  Told the family I was going out grocery shopping but changed into the outfit with glasses to be sneaky.  Then I knocked on the door came in and Ho Ho Ho'd my way to the Tree, with the girls, had each an early present.  Obviously my wife knew the plan, but we got a pick in front of the Tree and then I left.  I still have that pic, one of my favorites.  Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

I wonder if Chase will give us all a great present today! It sounded like he wanted to announce his decision before the game and I could see him doing it today if it's good news.
