OT - Bell's Two Hearted Ranked #1 by Zymurgy Magazine
After 8 years of being #1 beer in America, Pliny the Elder was dethroned by Michigan's very own Two Hearted Ale. Not only that, but Bell's was named the #1 brewery in America with Founders as #2. Represent!

Well, if you like it, who's to argue with that?
However, I'd recommend some others. Greenbush comes to mind as one of Michigan's best.
I'll add it to the list. I'm always down to try a new brewery.
Oh yeah. Love me some good sculpys.
I'm not into IPAs, so this list does nothing for me.
Im pretty much with you on that. Though I will give Two Hearted a nod as that is one I actually don't mind.
That list is essentially 80% IPA's though. In most cases I will happily take some random cheap beer over a much more finely brewed pale ale.
I just don't enjoy my mouth being Hop-Raped.
neither. IPAs are just too heavy, body, taste and alcohol content. They are just too much, IMO. A lot of times I am drinking beer when I am doing yard work and stuff. IPAs just stop me in my tracks.
I thought the exact same thing. I get why people who like IPA's like them, but the list being that heavy on IPA's is a bit disappointing and, to me, speaks to the hive minds IPA drinkers get in thinking that only IPA's are a worthy beer(one reason I dislike the Pacific NorthWest beer scene so intensely).
I do like IPAs and stouts, but I'm so very disappointed that this list has so few other types of beers. I wouldn't expect to see sours on there, but reds, ambers, browns, and belgians are just a few popular styles that I would expect to see a lot more of on a list of best beers.
It's on every Delta flight and Sky Club :)
Yass. Sweetwater and Creature Comforts are two of my favorite breweries, and 420 and Tropicalia are my respective go-to brews.
Come to Tampa Bay. We have over 20 breweries(!). The best one, IMO, is Rapp Brewing. They constantly have a huge variety of styles and some off the wall stuff too. Very well done.
I've heard good things, but trying to decide if it's worth trying to track some of it down in Nashville.
Yes, Cigar City makes some good beer. Jai Alai IPA is fantastic, although I always seem to get a headache from it... Perhaps because I drink too much of it.

Yuengling brewery in Tampa is an amazing place. I took a tour and it's 3 football fields long of the good industry.
I'm 100% with you on Creature Comforts! Fighting the urge to walk home for lunch and down a Cosmik Debris and/or Koko Buni (rough day at the office).
is definitely an underrated brewery. Often tough to find outside of the region though.
Good stuff. Has anyone tried the previous #1 on the list?
Nope -- But now I really want some. Sounds like it is mighty tough to get ahold of when available, and it is currently only available in CA, CO, PA, and OR -- All of which are quite far from here.
You could always fly to SFO, rent a car and drive three hours up to the brewery, wait in line for 1 - 3 hours to be able to get in, and then possibly get to drink a beer before they close. I mean, if you're really interested.
So what you are telling me is that I realistically may never taste this beer. Unless it becomes mass produced and distributed, which sounds unlikely, correct?
FYI - my fam's business is liquor/party stores, and I had still never heard of this beer (I stopped working there years ago)
Pliny E is outstanding. Sappy and hoppy. It is a different weight class than Two Hearted (double IPA).
Pliny the Younger is probably my favorite of the three. Hoppier and sappier than Pliny E.
Yes. I traded with someone at work for it. It's delicious, but like two-hearted, I wouldn't consider it one of the best.
Yes, and it is good. Both the Elder and the Younger are good. But there are many other good DIPAs. I'm not sure I'd put them in my top 10 (but admitedly I would have far fewer IPAs) entenial and Two Hearted are IMO the best, but I prefer Centenial hops (used in both) over the other Cs-Columbus, Cascade, Chinook commonly used in IPAs
It's better than 2-hearted IMO. 2-hearted isn't even my favorite IPA. My favorite brewery is probably Dark Horse so I do love me some Smells Like a Safety Meeting and the Crooked Tree.
I do think that Founders is one of the top breweries around (them and New Glarus) just based on overall quality of all offerings.
I love two-hearted. That it's named after a Hemingway short story** about the upper peninsula somehow makes it even better.
**(written before Ernest felt he had enough talent to include multiple characters and therefore dialogue; it's about a young WWI vet, Nick Adams, who can't bring himself to discuss what he saw and heads off to nature for its regenerative characteristics; he winds up fishing on the Fox river. The story's title -- Big, Two-Hearted River -- encapsulates a metaphor. That the Fox river is braided (has two hearts) in the area where Nick fishes. One of these is clear; the other, swampy. And he only fishes in the clear, in much the same way as he refuses to actively remember the war)
Which one is best is a matter, of course, of opinion. I finally tracked down a Pliny the Elder through a friend in CA, and found it superb, but also have fond memories of downing a couple of Two Hearted's at Old Town on several occasions.
What's nice to me is that there is such a wealth of great beer out there these days. You younguns should appreciate what you've got - it wasn't that long ago that a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or a Liberty Ale was about as exotic as things got on the U.S. ale front. We live in great beer times.
Also, my favorite MI brewery is New Holland on the stout side (although Founder's Breakfast Stout is rock solid too), but probably with #TeamFounders on the IPA and Pale ale side.
They have some very creative beers, most of which are worth some sips.
Only the Huma Lupa Licious, which I thought was quite good. Sort of a flagship IPA - well-balanced, fresh hop taste, etc.
I don't mean this in a bad way, but it was one of dozens of excellent highly-hopped IPA's I've had the chance to enjoy in the past ten years or so. Which is what every decent ale brewery should have, and many ale breweries lack.
Based on the H-L-L I'm guessing that Short's has some other excellent offerings a bit more off the beaten path - I'm just no longer in the area, so I've not been able to sample much else.
Two Hearted is a great IPA , but that list has some pretty questionable calls.
I obviously drank plenty of the Sangria too, but Dominick's was where I learned to love Two Hearted
we definitely had more than a couple of Ford School courses held there. Public policy goes down easier with a mason jar of sangria.
Nothing like cooler full of Bells Best Brown, Two Hearted, and Oktoberfest at Pioneer HS on a crisp fall morning.
Man, I need football season.
I do think Two Hearted is very good, but best beer in America? There's just too many great beers out there and this list is a group of craft brewers with pretty wide distribution. I was surprised to see the 3 Floyds beers on the list. Zombie Dust (which is quite good and deserving of its ranking) is usually hard to find, but I have noticed their beer is becoming more plentiful at our local Binny's. They must have kicked it up a notch or two in the past year.
Chicago has some great craft brewers that don't have wide distribution yet (Pipeworks, Revolution, Metropolitan) with a bunch of little guys still building their business (Solemn Oath, Penrose). That's the great thing about craft beer. You have regional/national players and small local guys all making great beer. I love the local guys and try to be supportive. Practicing the lessons of Harbaugh, competition is a good thing. Can't wait for the Naperville Ale Fest next month. I always find something new and interesting every year. Urban Chestnut from St. Louis was there a few years ago. They do German styles with a twist. Their Fantasyland IPA is quite good. If you see Urban Chestnut beer on the shelf, give it a try.

I know it's Michigan, and represent and all.. But, seriously...
Bullshit.
to go with that can of water?
Kidding. I drink a lot of this.
As much as I enjoy both Two Hearted and Hopslam, where the fuck is Oberon on this list? As far as I'm concerned it's the best Bell's beer by a mile.
Oatsmobile, try it. I think it's better than Oberon, which is a good beer most years.
That may be your own, personal, individual opinion, but you are wrong about what you think is the best tasting beer to you.
Two Hearted Ale is one of my favorites, but All Day IPA is my top beer.
