Didn’t see it, but let me guess: there’s a big thing or group of bad things that come from space or some other dimension and are going to destroy earth/the universe and at first the Avengers can’t stop it and don’t know if they can, but then suddenly they get together and fight super hard and manage to, like, defeat the bad thing or whatever amidst tons of explosions, sick martial arts-esque fighting, witty a banter between the heroes, and massive destruction of property. Then the portal to space or wherever is closed/destroyed. Then, after the credits finish rolling, there’s a quick teaser that maybe the Avengers didn’t totally defeat the bad thing or destroy the space portal after all.

SPOILER-the teaser is for an upcoming Marvel movie, multiple super heroes die, and Thanos wins this round Also, if you read the Infinity Gauntlet back in the day, this movie represents it pretty well except for one glaring omission that I’m not sure how they address in the avengers next year

Go see it immediately. ASAP.

The ending was epic and will soon be spoiled for you. It will be captured by the zeitgeist before long, moreso than any prior Marvel movie.

Why did dr. Strange give the stone to thanos ? That one scenario where they win has to involve tony stark.

I get why Hawkeye wasn't in the movie, but not having Ant Man in it seems strange. Especially since they are still planning on doing the next Ant Man movie.

Anyone who is more versed in the comic books know what the image on Nick Fury's device was?

Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman appear in a post-credits scene to discuss their favorite Sherlock Holmes stories.

Chris Evans (Captain America Steve Rogers), Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star Lord) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) become lost searching for the most powerful of the infinity stones -- the Chris Rock.

Paul Rudd as Ant Man is transported in a glass case of emotion to a galaxy far, far away.

because it's the most epic part of the comic run.  love the choice to end it there.  I think that the next few Marvel movies (Ant-man and Captain Marvel) may serve as prequels (ish) to the follow up next summer.  Think there will be a time travel conceit of some kind.  Ant-Man likely involved to steal some important McGuffin and he's still alive.  Obviously setting up the originals avengers to save the day next summer and retcon this whole thing.

Plus I had to write my thoughts down after that movie.

This is really not a fun movie, but really really good even so.  It's a tragedy told through a comic book hero story.  It's probably the best actual storyline of any comic book movie I have seen and I have seen them all, to my shame.  Most of the heros die at the end.  A list of those who died: spiderman, vision, scarlet witch, doctor strange, ALL of the gaurdians except the raccoon, black panther, the winter soldier and loki.  I'm probably forgetting a couple.

But this one is just half a story.  So that makes the movie hard to grade.  The protagonist is the worst bad guy in movie history but you still get a full back story on him and the reasons for his actions.  Thanos gets the most screentime by far, and deservedly so.

The stakes are pretty high even for someone like me who is only half-heartedly into hero movies.  Because you at least know the characters, and they are all dying.

So yeah.  There are a lot of funny moments though.  The action is second to none and the acting is fantastic.  I really would not want to watch that again until you get to see the second part where the good guys win in the end, but I am really not in to dramas - so take that into consideration.

I think the movie is great, for other geeks it is like Empire Strikes Back.  Make no mistake,Thanos kicks some serious butt in the movie.  Estabishing himself as one Bad A$$ M'F****er.

That is where they did it closely to the comic book.  The ending is a shocker, yes, the audience was stunned and you could just hear gasps and "Oh NO" throughout the theater.  But I am sure that is what they wanted.

Can't remember who stated it earlier, but it is a great pick up that Dr.Strange, for some very odd reason after making is very clear that he would NEVER give up the Time Stone, hands is over rather easily.  Yet a few scence earlier, he stated that he time warped himself into the future to check out the plausible outcomes.  And there was only one.........

My other take, is at the end when Thor believes he has killed Thanos (FYI - been a huge Thor fan my whole life so to watch him be such a Bad A$$ himself is just awesome!)  What does Thanos tell Thor?????

I think Thor will remember that and make sure that he heeds Thanos's advice the next time.....

And decent insight with Thanos' comment to Thor.  I did not know the story from the comics.  If this truly was in detail the original storyline, then it must be an amazing thing to see that unfold on the big screen.  It was just a totally unexpected experience (not bad!) for the myself and the group of people I went with.  Totally unlike any other comic/hero movie, in a good way.

The movie was okay. I'm a fan of the bad guy winning since that's what happened in the comics, and I thought Thanos was a great villain, but the leadup to this was utter bullshit. The producers said dead would be dead for good and that's clearly not the case. The people that survive are all the ones that are moving on soon and the ones that die are the characters that are big parts of the next phase of the Marvel Universe. Pointedly Spiderman and Black Panther who are very clearly two of the main players for the next phase are not gonna stay dead (especially since BP just made all the money in the world). This is obviously going to get retconned or fixed somehow. The movie was supposed to finally add real stakes to the MCU and it absolutely didn't. Disney/Marvel wanted to have their cake and eat it too and that's cowardly storytelling to me.
