fwiw, I think you mean…

fwiw, I think you mean rebound % ?   Too much noise in raw #'s of Oreb (i.e. lots of shots, a poor shooting night, ugh).

Lol, you sound like an old…

Lol, you sound like an old baseball scout arguing against advanced metrics--like those dudes in "Moneyball" insisting some kid's swing looks "good."   Your first two positions are ludicrous, and frankly, not supported by data--which is more reliable than the "eye test."  Advanced stats have literally changed the game, and have guided some of the notable shifts in the NBA and NCAA (i.e. less mid-range jumpers, more 3's, more emphasis on guarding 3's, etc)

Dude, this is the most…

Dude, this is the most absurd take I've seen on Beilein since the days of Maizen.   Lol.  Checked out?  You should be embarrassed by your own ignorance. Spacing is completely different in the NBA and makes a huge difference in the offensive abilities of some players.  His skillset will definitely benefit from less aggressive help side D at the rim and the bigger court.  Stick to football man.

This kid is going to be good…

This kid is going to be good :)   Can't wait to get him into Camp Sanderson...

That Meddy Bud!

Great article, man.  You're a hero.  Glad you're off the opiates and on to greener pastures.

The snap was always coming

because it's the most epic part of the comic run.  love the choice to end it there.  I think that the next few Marvel movies (Ant-man and Captain Marvel) may serve as prequels (ish) to the follow up next summer.  Think there will be a time travel conceit of some kind.  Ant-Man likely involved to steal some important McGuffin and he's still alive.  Obviously setting up the originals avengers to save the day next summer and retcon this whole thing.

Slip the switch...

Mo Slipping to the rim is a great counter to an over zealous switching defense.  He can't settle for the pick and pop all the time.

Ich Binh Ein Beileiner

As someone who finally createds a username just to defend Beilein, I can second this.  Man is a legend... and for awhile there, some were just being ridiculous.

you know there's a 0% chance we're going to jump UNC...

Right?  I mean.. Please.  They have 11 (count 'em) Q1 wins and 1 bad loss, plus being #1 in SOS.  Their floor is a 3--guaranteed.

your TLDR is where the real stuff is at.  Basically, we need those teams to lose.

what a meme!

Am I only the one who read that in an exaggerated/butchered slavic accent?

And yes... Yak gonna get paid a lot more than his ole teaching salary.

JB should be on the banner

Dude is a HOFer for sure.  It's overdue. JB for the banner...

Just worry about your program...

lol... so, your coaches are meeting with some corrupt individuals and protecting student athletes with serious allegaitons.  I won't even touch the disgrace that's been done to the University in protecting Nassar.

One would think that you have bigger fish to fry than the often exaggerated rantings of hardcore UM fans.

40 years of the same philosophy?

LOL.  Oh... I forgot that JB *just* started evolving as a coach.  That must be why we're *just now* achieving success.

Ich bin ein Beileiner!

In JB we trust.

JB haters

Probably going to stay silent for a bit, eh?   What an exceptional performance by our team today.  The defensive plan was brilliant and executed with tenacity.  Our offense in the second half--a thing of beauty.  Hats off to the kids and the coaching staff.  Just a basketball clinic today.

Big ten basketball

My hope is that if the conference truly is that mediocre, we should post 11-7 or better in league play to earn a bid.  If not, we simply weren't cut out for March.  That would certainly be a disappointment, but I'm optimistic about our chances to finish well in the Big Ten.

Because JB's offense isn't historically great?

Beilein is widely regarded as an offensive genius and has been running the same sets for years.  There have been additions/tweaks...but you can see the shuffle series through 8 years of UM (at least).   But sure man, great take.

Still #3 on 247...

JB can't recruit though... where's Maizen at!?

Love the sentiment...

But come on dude... you remember beating Luke Fickell's Suckeyes?  Tell me that's just as satisfying later this year when we beat Meyer and he's throwing tantrums and pouting on the sideline.  Not all OSU teams are created equal.  I definitely enjoy beating the supposedly better ones more.  something about it is simply sweeter to know we destroyed their season ala '95.

Spot on take

Love it man.  He defnitely *knew* he made a sweet audible after seeing coverage and *knew* he had a touchdown...just got giddy and airmailed that shit.

Fellow Houston Wolverines

"281" in my handle is actually a nod to my area code.  Rode out Harvey in W. Houston.  HEB got bread today as well.  Glad y'all are safe.  Now, I finally have some time to get excited for football!!  What a relief that is :)

I'd go to the game with tickets the way they are...but too much to do here yet.  Still, watching us kick some Gator ass on tv will be a welcome respite from this disaster!

LOL

Discriminate in favor of minorities?  LOL.  That's rich.  Coming from an old white guy--even better.  This is why this board must stay on sports related topics.  I sleep better NOT knowing the views of my fellow Michigan fans.

Except he rarely is...

Lol, Maizen and Brian's reaction to our non-con schedule is absurd and most certainly not "right."   Particularly with more weight being given to road games, this is much ado about nothing. We win two Top 25 roadies and our RPI is literally bulletproof all season  (man, how I'd love to steal that one in Chapel Hill).  Even this past year, we probably jump Minny with a win over them on the road.  Some just like to complain.    Like when we lose a recruit, or schedule a powder puff basketball game.  I don't understand their ilk, but alas, we ostensibly root for the same team, so I tolerate it.

Apologists?

Because Morris, Hardaway, Stauskas, McGary, Robinson, DJ Wilson were all Plan B targets?  wtf are you smoking?

Not to mention, JB doesn't offer until a visit is had--so your metric for determing our top tier targets is asinine. I believe MattD states it well up this thread...Simi Shittu is certainly a top target, but doesn't have an offer.

It's almost impossible to speculate who is on the top of our "board," since any kid holding an offer or being targeted is surely fitting into some kind of plan by the coaching staff.

It's the irrational criticism that sullies this board.  Your takes have no actual evidence.

I'm just here for Maizen's predictably spot on analysis.

I'm so tired of Beilein missing on recruits.  I know, so problematic over the years. (only if you're a slave to recruiting rankings).

Jordan Morgan/Derek Walton  undrafted/overseas types.  I'll take their college production.

These are the guys you want...

If the scout team can't push the rotation guys, then the season tends to end poorly. This guy can play the 5 on scout team and really push our bigs in practice from a rebounding stand point if he's scrappy.  Seems like a solid PWO.

Better defense!?

No, it just epitomizes why he didn't play (and he got hurt and was sidelined most of the year).  So, your "2 years" claim already out the window there.  As for Soph year, there's no way he was a defensive upgrade.  Revisionist history.  Every game he had over ten minutes he had foul trouble.  Couldn't play 15-20 consistently even had JB given him the run.  But sure.

Dude, he was better than many playing? bold

Anticipated attrition

Will open up another scholarship for next year, so as the article states, I expect us to sign two more.

Agreed...

But they may know something we don't (i.e. Mo was really close to being taken in round 1, and all but a slam dunk to go next year...Charles Matthews has been Godly in practice and reports have NOT been overexaggerated/the normal redshirt bluster.  Ibi or player x is thinking of transferring if he continues to not crack the rotation).  They may be anticipating another scholly opening up for  Weems/ or Watts if we lose a PG to transfer.

Correction

Jb only discriminates against Black *centers*

Interesting developments...

Adding Hunter and* Tyson would make for an epic 2018 class (including Currie tho he's a project).   I'd take Iggy over Tyson probably by a hair, but think Tyson has more upside. *Question becomes whether we oversign or call it quits after Hunter.  I'm not as convinced we're done with one more commit.

Maizen colored glasses

Dude, not only is it unnecessarily/problematically racial to say such stupidity, but it's also just wrong.  Sure, the guy we've signed at the Center position as tended to be white since the De'shawn Sims/Jordan Morgan/ Jon Horford days.  But to suggest we haven't recruited athletic Black centers is, like most of your takes, stupid and not supported by fact.  I can think of Mike Edwards, Levi Cook, Swanigan come to mind (though I know he's more of a 4).  I know we didn't initiate the Mo Bamba sweepstakes, but we jumped in there too.  Mostly, we've gotten early commits from our 5's the past few years, but to suggest that athletic (and more offensively), black 5's aren't recruited by Johnny B is priceless drivel.

Definitely not unfair man.

Definitely not unfair man.  Been here all of two weeks, it took me less than a day to understand Maizen's rep.

LOl doesn't recruit "black

LOl doesn't recruit "black centers with that much athleticism."  Priceless drivel.

Same position

In JB's system the 3 and 4 are basically identical positions offensively.  Only difference is our "4" is typically a little bigger to guard opposing bigs at that spot.   I would assume defense will determine what spot the formally play, but it really doesn't matter.

JB haters still hating

Forgot to mention 10 early entries in NBA draft, most in Big Ten by a lot.  *But I forgot he only recruits talentless wonders and we underachieve every year* so these facts mean nothing.

scheduling

New to posting, so unsure where the personal stuff is coming from.  But I have to disagree with Brian and Maizen.  Our SOS has always been competitive, and  Minnesota's RPI boost was largely due to luck (3 weak opponents making jumps of 100+ in RPI).  The truth is, we only schedule 2-3 of these games every year...and frankly, most blue bloods do too.

When has our out of conference scheduling really screwed us?  It doesn't add up.  We play tough teams on the road and at home, participate in competitive non con tourneys and play tons of home games for the fans.  I feel that some in the fan base just can't wait to attack Johnny B.  Since we're not playing anymore, scheduling it is.  When we start filling the 2018 class, we'll hear more hate.

Just don't think the facts support this thread or Maizen's.  Plus, RPI is being devalued this year. \

RPI impact

Really don't think this will impact us too much.  If we beat Minnesota, then that would have solved our seed line issues :)  This post is melodramatic.  Our schedule is loaded this year.  @UT and UNC.  UCLA.  Maui Invitational.   At most this game costs us 1 seed line.  So many other games do too.  Please.  Moving on.

**Edit:  AND, if I recall correctly, next year the committee will begin taking other metrics into account and NOT valuing RPI as much.  This post is absurd.
