OT: 5 star WR Rakim Jarrett flips from LSU to Maryland

#20 Overall and #2 WR in the 247 composite. Had been committed to LSU since April (over Bama and OSU). An absolute stunner.

Sometimes guys just like playing closer to home. I guess you can sell him on Stefon Diggs. "Hey man. We sucked when Diggs was here too and he turned out fine"

He's from DC. No matter where his family actually lives, it is less than an hour away from Maryland. His family and friends can see him, and see him play. He can go home when he wants. I personally came from about a half hour away from Ann Arbor to attend UofM. I can totally understand someone choosing to stay close to home. DPJ came to Michigan. Harrison went to OSU. In both cases, they chose to stay close to home. TE Devin Asiasi transferred to UCLA, again, to be close to home. EDIT: And it gets pretty old just assuming that everyone who is a 5 star is getting paid under the table. I'm sure it is true some of the time. In this case, staying close to home seems enough of a motivating factor.

To all those screaming bagmen, I'm not going to speculate into how much that factored into this kid's recruitment. But there's no denying that Locksley has some recruiting magic in him. He flipped a couple of 4 stars after he took over last year, and this year he has the Terps up to #27 in the 247 composite. Coupled with the fact Jarrett is from DC, it's not just about $$$ (if any).

Chew on this boys. OSU has a great class based on everything we have heard. They av. 91.88.

The top 6 classes in the SEC all have a 90 or better average.

1. Bama 93.3

2. LSU 92.9

3. UGA 93.6

4. TAMU 91.27

5. Auburn 90.8

6. Florida 90.04

OSU 91.88

UM 89.7

There are a number of kids in OSU's class that are ranked lower than what we're used to seeing, and some of those kids have been committed for awhile now (meaning they weren't last minute fill-ins).  Time will tell how it all works out, but they've had good luck with 3-stars lately...

That is a pretty shrewd move. Get the LSU, Bama, and OSU bagmen after you while keeping it under wraps that you want to play for the instate team.

Wonder if he's just worried about being homesick.

If that's not it, then there's more to this story. A five star recruit doesn't de-commit from the favorite to win the national title (a team that has finally found its offensive footing, and in a big way) and go to an annual Big Ten doormat just because. I doubt this is a situation of LSU "cooling" on him and encouraging him to look elsewhere. Second best WR in his class.

Hope things work out for him, though. Except when he plays Michigan.

I like the move by this young man. He'll get a chance to develop (as a person) in a more sane, less football obsessed environment. Plus, DMV > podunk Louisiana by a wide margin. Home is a strong pull.

The serious ignorance is in your reading comprehension. I clearly stated that he'll be afforded the opportunity to develop as a person in a less football crazed environment. Even for student-athletes, going to college should be about the development of the entire person and not just the athlete.

And, though Louisiana is a fine state, and LSU is a good university, the DMV area is more diverse, more prosperous, more cultured, more educated. Only an idiot fails to recognize that.
