Is that their lead back? Or is their lead back Trayanum?
October 31st, 2023 at 12:51 PM ^
I thought it was henderson
October 31st, 2023 at 12:51 PM ^
Neither. It’s TraVeyon Henderson. If Henderson stays healthy this dude wasn’t gonna see much time.
Sucks for him though. And Henderson is hurt a lot so if he goes down again all they got is Trayanum and possibly Connor Stalions to run the ball.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:54 PM ^
Henderson reminds me of our very own DE. Homerun hitter, but doesn't grind out yards.
DE, though, is a much better receiver.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
He looks to me like he is finding the every down back gear. He was a load against Wisconsin.
OSU is beating teams in different ways now. All jokes about “toughness” aside, they are winning ugly and grinding things out. Reminds me a bit of Michigan in 2021. Will be a battle tested team when we play them.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:05 PM ^
I didn't see him against Wisconsin but one good game does not make him an every down back. I did watch the ND game and he did nothing outside of be fast, same as ever.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:07 PM ^
I disagree. I think he is a really good back and that OSU is much better when he plays.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:38 PM ^
Agree with this. When healthy, Henderson is an every down type of running back and a big threat for the OSU offense.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
Yeah, he looked tough (jokes aside) and had a big burst. OSU is the #3 team in the nation and deservedly so. With Henderson back and their WR core they'll be hard to stop even if Honda McCord is just serviceable. Their defense is also coming together. The Game is going to be two heavy weights trading punches. OSU will have an opportunity to prove their toughness.
October 31st, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
Agree-Henderson is by far their most talented back.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
I agree. He's criminally underused. I was actually nervous about him in '21 until I realized that OSU isn't the OSU of old.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:09 PM ^
He didn't make a lot of yards on his own, which is his whole issue.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:10 PM ^
They're winning ugly cause they have no choice. Their stable of RBs and WRs have been battling injuries all season. Couple that with a rookie QB that hasn't found a consistant groove yet.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:22 PM ^
I think they are gaining confidence with that thought and finding some resilience. OSU played “entitled” football the last two years. They don’t look like that this year. I do not think they will fall over with a soft nudge this year. Just my opinion.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:40 PM ^
That's a lot of feelingsball to say that they were elite offensively the last two years and are just OK now.
They still suck in short yardage. Luckily for them, ND is too dumb to count to 11.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:58 PM ^
If you want to call it feelingzball that’s fine. It’s my opinion. I have been impressed by OSU’s response to adversity this year in difficult environments. If that is somehow heresy I’ll take my lumps.
October 31st, 2023 at 2:15 PM ^
Wisconsin didn’t have their starting QB and lost their best RB and WR during the game.
ND doesn’t have receivers and dropped a game sealing INT. OSU has been dancing on a high wire.
October 31st, 2023 at 2:32 PM ^
I don't think you need lumps but it just feels overly concerned.
As I said, I did not watch Wisconsin but I watched most of their other games and he looked the same as ever. They cannot grind tough yard and struggle against good teams.
The difference in their OL/QB play is also night and day from previous yeats.
Their defense may have improved but they still have not played a functional offense
October 31st, 2023 at 4:16 PM ^
Note - I’m not concerned.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
I have to agree. Also, don't sleep on McCord. It took a minute for him to settle in, but he is getting better every week. Despite his early stumbles, kid is currently fifth in the country in total QBR. While not as dynamic as JJ, he is probably the second best QB in the B1G right now and improving every week.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
His statistics don't really flesh out "getting better every week". The phrase I'd use to describe him would be "wildly inconsistent". His stats were okay against Wisconsin but he still accounted for 3 turnovers. He's just not great at making decisions under pressure.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:11 PM ^
An OSU account on Twitter was pointing out that he's good when he can run in a straight line, and, so that's what Day has tried to do. Still looks like the same back. He's tough, but fragile, not a lot of wiggle (a la Corum), can be a load to bring down but doesn't break a ton of tackles.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:11 PM ^
I thought the same, 2023 Ohio State reminds me of 2021 Michigan, Then I remembered when 2021 Michigan met 2021 Georgia, and I have a feeling that is what November 25th is going to look like.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:22 PM ^
2021 Michigan was much tougher in the trenches. 2023 OSU is not much different from last year aside from the major downgrade at QB.
October 31st, 2023 at 9:53 PM ^
Michigan had a road grader offensive line. OSU does not have that.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:45 PM ^
I wasn't really sure what to make of his Wisconsin performance. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but he was oftentimes either getting 10-15 yard chunks or getting stonewalled at the line.
It wasn't very efficient, but it worked and that's all that matters. I also don't know how good Wisconsin's defense is.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:01 PM ^
Gotcha. Kinda didn’t remember Henderson, probably because he’s been out a lot.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
which is still something because Connor Stalions has dictated the outcome of the game each of the last 2 years!
October 31st, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
Henderson is a big play threat, but inconsistent
October 31st, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
I think it is the line that is inconsistent.
October 31st, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Last season, their preseason RB depth chart was projected to be:
1 - TreyVeon Henderson
2 - Miyan Williams
3 - Evan Pryor
4 - Dallan Hayden
This preseason, people expected the depth chart to be:
1 - TreyVeon Henderson
2 - Miyan Williams
3 - Chip Traynaum
4 - Dallan Hayden
5 - Evan Pryor
TreyVeon and Miyan have again been dealing with injuries, which has lead them to lean heavily on Chip Traynaum so far - but when the room is fully healthy Henderson is the best back , but he is fragile.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
Great, another excuse to use when they get their beat down
October 31st, 2023 at 1:04 PM ^
Michigan sign stealing obviously caused the injury.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:53 PM ^
Hate it for the kid.
Also, hate it for more excuses when they get blasted
October 31st, 2023 at 12:57 PM ^
Per Cryin’ Ryan. Soft ass bitch.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:57 PM ^
Williams is like their Mullings - a big power guy.
Henderson is their feature back. Their running game looked a lot better against Wisconsin than it did against Penn State, without Henderson.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:18 PM ^
On a side note I did hear that Mullings is practicing this week. Hopefully we get to see him play on Saturday night.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:25 PM ^
Couldn’t that be because psu defense >>> Wisconsin as well…
October 31st, 2023 at 1:48 PM ^
Wisconsin defense looked very moveable. OSU was able to block them quite easily. Let's see how they do against Michigan.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
I could be wrong, but I thought he was their toughest back in The Game. Maybe it was 2021? He seemed to run hard and they stopped going to him, after Ross knifed through on that 3rd and short. Especially in the redzone. As always, I could be full of shit.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:10 PM ^
Feels like the game is going to come down to whether or not Michigan can get McCord under siege, and whether we can combat OSU's efforts to get Harrison matched up with anyone other than Will Johnson. That said I dont think their defense has seen anything like Michigan's offense yet
October 31st, 2023 at 2:30 PM ^
No, you’re correct. Williams was grinding out good yards in The Game in 2021. Trayanum did the same in 2022.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:00 PM ^
Last year I thought Miyan was their best RB. This season I have thought Trayanum is their best RB.
The commentators and broadcasters however have thought Henderson is the best RB in the history of RBs since he stepped on campus. Despite the fact that he has broken less tackles than Derrick Green.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:01 PM ^
Williams has been used sparingly this season, which was surprising to me; I thought he would play a more prominent role. He got a lot of action against PSU with both Henderson & Trayanum out, but otherwise had only 25 carries all season.
Would like to see him return for 2024, especially assuming that TreVeyon leaves.

BuckeyeChuck: Illegally scouting other teams' blogs since 2012.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:12 PM ^
Watched the Wisconsin game, Henderson looked really good. Strong and decisive with his reads. Henderson is a damn good back, takes a lot pressure off McCord.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:25 PM ^
I wonder if Williams had been dealing with something all year and they just now called it quits. Doesn’t make sense that he was significantly less effective this year vs. last year. He’s a really good back.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
Chuck - you're a level headed Buckeye fan. I have a question for you, if I may.
What's your opinion / perspective about the Buckeyes OL this season?
Thanks...
October 31st, 2023 at 2:06 PM ^
I'm not Chuck, but I like to think I'm pretty level headed.
The OL this season, probably one of the weaker run blocking lines in memory at Ohio State, but have gotten much better over the last couple weeks. Some of that is run scheme. Pretty good pass blocking overall, but certainly can get beat a few times a game. And McCord needs to improve his pocket presence, that would help his OL tremendously, because a number of the sacks and other bad plays have been his fault, not the OL. All of this is self evident, no surprises. The OSU OL room 2 years ago was incredibly strong, never got the credit that it deserved. 4 of those 5 starters left with remaining eligibility, and 4 of them are currently starting in the NFL. But the problem for that room was that the previous OL coach Studrawa had completely whiffed for a couple years in recruiting, so there was almost no depth behind Munford, Petit-Frere, Johnson, Jones, and Wypler and the couple highly ranked guys that we did have remaining have struggled. Hard to believe that Ohio State is starting a left tackle transferred from San Diego State. But Simmons has really started to come on and athletically he is gifted. If only he could stop the silly penalties.
