One Of The Best Days Of My Life

Submitted by Bluenin on January 25th, 2020 at 3:05 PM

Happened in the past year or so.  It was after the Florida loss in the bowl game.  I decided to not let what happened on the field or court dictate my happiness in life.  Even though I have been a diehard fan of this team since around 8 years old, I found that constantly bitching and complaining about 18-21 year olds that, in reality, had no actual bearing on anything associated with my life. So why let it spiral me into a depression??  Bitching and complaining about coaches that I can’t fire or do anything about, what’s the point??  I decided to just get some perspective and say hell, it’s not that important, just enjoy watching the team you root for play.  Wish I could go back and see comments about Beilein’s first three seasons at Michigan, the pitchfork mob was probably ready to burn him at the stake after season 3!  I just don’t understand the people that seem to be in so much torment and misery watching Michigan play in any sport?  That just seems awful and not worth it.

I agree mostly. I haven't watched a game since the MSU loss a few weeks ago. I actually got rid of all tv other than antenna and Amazon. In my free time, I have been reading countless books, listening to podcasts and watching some movies. I do not owe Michigan sports anything and honestly they don't deserve my time. Nothing personal, but Time is precious. I decided after the Osu game in football to be a fan of whatever teams are winning. I never thought that would be fun, It is actually a blast. I don't give a fuck if my team loses cause I just move on to the next. I am still a Michigan fan #1, but after that it is whoever beats Osu. In pro sports, it is whoever wins. My team in NFL right now is the Chiefs. I got a $15 Chiefs shirt at Meijer and my $22 Chiefs hat with the arrowhead on it, is on the way from Amazon. Can't wait to see my team have a chance to win the SB!. I never thought I would be like this, but it has happened and I am ok with it. I can't get how anyone could watch the hoops game today when there is so much other stuff to do. I will watch when they play Osu and Msu and I will watch if they make the tourney. Other than that, nah I am good. Might even go get me a dog.

HAHA! So I should lie and be fake? No thanks. Remember me for what? I said I am still a Michigan fan #1, it doesn't mean I can't have fun rooting for other teams to beat teams I hate. Piss off, you are not the master of fandom, LOL. I would have said the same thing as you my whole life up until this year, so I get where you are coming from. I don't take it serious anymore, no point.

I watch Michigan sports.   All.  The. Time.   The Amaker years?   Watched them.   The year before the Fab Five arrived?  I was in Crisler every home game as a student fan cheering on my team (and hoping Sam Mitchell and Rich McIver would morph into an unstoppable forward tandem).   This is what fans do.  They support their team.   And I have to say that supporting your team through adversity makes the highs even higher.

So go ahead.   Don't watch or support Michigan basketball this year.  But please check your fan card at the door as you exit.   You are not entitled to get it back.

You are a Die Hard fan boy. That is your choice. The highs will be high. As a Michigan fan first, when they return to glory, I will be there and be happy. The struggle has been real. Where do I get said fan card? My fan card right now is my Clemson hat and my Chiefs hat if they win the Super Bowl.

It's actually not a terribly difficult to cheer for your team during rough stretches.   Just don't let it define your life.   I'm frustrated and upset when we lose games, but the misery doesn't last long.   I can function like a normal human being after a loss.

Lastly, I'm sorry that your beloved Clemson team didn't win the National Championship.  That must've been a tough pill to swallow.

you sound like a Lions fan. I get it. It's a good defense mechanism when your team goes in the shitter.

Yeah you're right. A better defense mechanism is to publicly berate young amateur adults who are trying their best to win, who personally owe you nothing.

I wish they would have won today but they didn't. They had chances to close it out by hitting free throws. I bet the team is pretty upset that they lost also. Let's instead bash players and talk about how they are unworthy of a scholarship.

You don’t understand people that seem to be in torment and misery watching Michigan play. But you used to let Michigan’s play dictate how you felt, which would spiral into depression and you would bitch and complain?

And I’m sure if we were to shock the world and win the NC in football and/or basketball next year you’d be as equally sanguine and say “It’s nice and all, but I’m not really going to celebrate or enjoy it much because it’s just a bunch of 18-21 year olds in playing a game that doesn’t really impact my life.”

This whole “I’ve reached a state of zen and realized sports are no big deal” is such fucking weak sauce. Especially because the revelation always seems to happen to people when their teams aren’t winning like they should.

I have yet to see the fan whose team is winning championships on a regular basis say “You know, I realized that it’s just sports and that tying such personal joy to my team winning games that don’t impact me is pretty silly. So I’m just going to keep an even keel and enjoy just watching the team play regardless of the outcome.”

Which is fine, but you don’t need to come on here making some proclamation like you’ve reached some state of grace over sports that the rest of us fools haven’t achieved.

Every fan gets over losses at some point because human nature dictates that we have to get over disappointing/upsetting events in our lives or else we simply won’t be able to function in day to day activities.

And, despite how they act on game day or on message boards, almost every fan is like that in that it doesn’t determine their general disposition. Or else they simply wouldn’t function normally.

So he’s proclaiming he’s achieved something that pretty much all fans have done........Congrats.

Although it is a minority, I don't consider people who feel the need to single out players specifically on an internet message board as 'function(ing) normally.'

'Ok, I have no idea how Wagner was so high on Beilein’s list.  How did Castleton get a scholarship offer is besides me.  There are 7 guys on this team that should be given a firm handshake.'

'Pathetic losers. So heartbreaking to see what Beilein built crash and burn in just a few weeks.'

'Luckily, Teske and X are graduating. Livers should declare if he can’t stay on the floor. I’d maybe keep DeJulius, but that’s it. They should be embarrassed by this performance.'

'Fitting. You fucking suck wagner'

'Nice Franz. What stud pick up he was.'

Saying shit like this hiding behind the anonymity of an internet board is pathetic.

My moment was App State.  Is was the first game I watched with my first child (she was only 1 month old).  As I felt the rage building in me from that game, I looked down and realized it meant shit in the scheme of things.  I still watch every game, but losses mean about 2 minutes of frustration before I move on with my day.

There are bigger things to life.  Dont let a game played by amateur young men dictate yours.

Why???  Not letting Michigan sports cause me days of anguish is a sorry existence??
OK, I guess bitching about Harbaugh nonstop to a bunch of strangers on a random board must be the pinnacle of life to some on here.  Wow!!!  That’s a blast!!

Yep, this day happened for me at some point during Rich Rod's 3-9 season. Somehow I was able to lessen the blow of our losses while still really enjoying our successes.

I just woke up in Melbourne to see that we lost to Illinois, Livers hurt again, etc. This is still a game played by young adults that I don't know and life is still great.
