Ohio State Defense

The announcer said that the Ohio State defense has 5 star players at every position on defense? Is this true? Geez.

Closet OSU fans are equally as annoying of the socalled reasonable OSU fans who jump on here.

Cynical a view point as it might seem, it's way easier to be reasonable and magnanimous if you are rooting for the team dominating the situation like they have.

Spare us and find something else to do with your time. You add nothing.

I think the real reason you are here is to take pleasure in the situation as it currently stands.

Day might be Larry Coker or in that category. He might be great. We really honestly won't know that for a  3 or 4 years because they are that loaded currently.

We keep finding a million different ways to restate the obvious: they have obscene talent like never in their history.

Someday they'll whiff on a coach and/or the NCAA will grow a pair and enforce rules for their non-student athlete/recruiting shenanigans.

Until then, more annual rough sledding.

I've invested my hope in the NIL rights. Maybe it's ill-founded, but I truly believe it came at just the right time for us (and the rest of the NCAA). We were getting on pace for the majority of the talent to all go to approximately ~6 teams. I don't think college football could sustain a situation like the NBA or college basketball where there's hardly any parity. Viewership and attendance would just go down. In the NBA it's more of a national sport and people enjoy watching the best of the best dominate. In college basketball the tournament works as a great equalizer.

Personally, the only college football playoff game I ever watched was OSU-Oregon the first year they had it. Needless to say, it was disappointing. People watch the basketball tournament games because they're exciting and even though you have the consistent powerhouses, they're often upset and there are all sorts of intriguing matchups. College football needs parity to be exciting and without it the sport will continue to cannibalize itself. NIL might be just the thing to reinvigorate college football and break up the talent sponges in Columbus, Tuscaloosa, Norman, and Clemson. In every playoff except the first one three of those four teams were present (and in the first one two of them were).

I can tell you that's not why I joined up. I find that on a lot of boards (e.g., Black Shoe Diaries and yes, this one) there's often a reasoned and literate take on such a passionate, visceral sport and that intersection is really interesting to me. (Plus, I just love me some college football.) But I can see where you could feel that way, esp. given recent history.

So good luck with everybody except, of course, OSU. Hope all your peeps stay healthy.

Two 5 star DEs

Two 5 star DBs

A 5 star LB and another as a backup.

Offense next year will be insane, they could start 7-8 5 stars on offense next season.

This is the best schematically thought and executed OSU offense I have ever seen.

Ryan Day looks like an upgrade.  As does Benedict Mattison.

This OSU team will win the national championship.

We are royally fucked for the foreseeable future.

Never say it can't get any worse.  It has.

When does basketball start.

Ohio State will basically be able to beat us as bad as they want. Score 50? 60? 70? Itll be up to them. This is going to fucking blow

As a UM fan I want to believe we have a chance in every game but its not looking very hopeful vs OSU this season at all

it's what you accumulate when you cheat your ass off. . .

I'm getting so sick of this shit.  That team needs to go down in the worst way.

Meanwhile we're in the weeds scrapping against Army and walking away with moral victories against Penn State. . .

What an old pile of shit you bring.

I hate aOSU as much as anyone...but haven’t heard of meter/day paying anyone to go to aOSU.

4&5 star kids want to be coached by legends.  We may hate Urban Liar...but he, Johnson and Mattison are excellent.

is it remotely possible that Michigan’s success has more to do with Mattison and less to do Brown?

Chase Young is what Rashan Gary was supposed to be. Dude has 13.5 sacks already this season alone. Gary had 9.5 in 3 seasons

The underlying point if all this is, they are so much more talented than we are and the gap between the two programs is widening.  That last Saturday in November will not be pretty.   In my 55 years I don't ever remember the talent disparity being so blatant and obvious.  As a program we are not close to being where OSU is.

Which is even more of a reason why its complete bullshit that Fields was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA

Remove Fields and OSU's best QB would've been Tate Martell and he isn't even good enough to start in Miami

With Fields OSU's offense is the best its ever been

That defense is insane.  I don’t think they lose this year unless Fields goes down and even then I’m not sure they are losing.  They are just that good across the board this year.

Our only chance not to get blown out will be to move the pocket early and often.  We won’t be able to run and forgot about dropping back and passing.  Just quick, short throws and see if our receivers can get some yardage.  I just don’t see us staying on the field with them this year.

It would not matter if OSU had 2 star talent at every position. Their coaching staff has an uncanny ability to develop talent, something the UM staff has no clue how to do. UM is where stars come to die and stars are born at OSU.

I think if you’re looking at it, they have at least one 5-star player in every defense positional group:

DE: Young, Harrison, Smith, Cooper

DT: Vincent

LB: Browning, Hilliard

DB: Okudah, Wade

I’m sure there is more but those guys could all be on the field at the same time and most often are. What’s even crazier is the same amount of guys they have that are top-100 players who fall just outside 5-Star. That’s this, doubled.
