Ohio State Defense

The announcer said that the Ohio State defense has 5 star players at every position on defense? Is this true? Geez.

I think you're referring to UM fans who are expressing a degree of admiration for OSU's team/staff that it seems impossible that they're not "closet OSU fans," as opposed to "out and proud," as it were, Buckeye fans, of which I am pretty clearly one. (I can also assure you that as an out and proud lesbian, I'm really not looking for dicks, famous or not.) But if you are referring to actual Buckeye backers who are on this board (and I'm on a few BIG sites), I hope that I've been respectful in my discussions. If not, please let me know and I'll either change or peace-out. I was drawn to this thread b/c it was specifically addressing OSU's defense, something of which I'm thankfully not terrified of this year.

And people will say stars don’t matter, just look at Wisconsin.   The Difference is Wisconsin has years to develop talent.

I agree. Obviously, recruiting is beyond huge. (Pat Summit's father told her, after they lost the first NC game she coached, that you can't win the Kentucky Derby with mules.) But the star system lends itself to a shorthand that, I think, gets over-used. Heck, I'm not even sure how the stars are decided.

Wouldn’t say bust but he never reached the level Young has.

Why are so many supposed intelligent adults unable to operate in the middle of the two extremes? Why do we always have to run 100mph in one direction or another?

Fucking idiots.

Good heavens, Sir or Madam, what you're proposing is nothing short of apostasy! Evaluating an athlete's or team's performance with nuance? Considering context? Operating comfortably within the gray zone?!? This is athletics! Like politics, it must be discussed with unyielding polemics and sneering contempt for anyone whose opinion differs from yours.

"Operate in the middle of the two extremes," indeed...

Yep I don't want to hear shit from people about Harbaugh being an underachiever or a failure for not beating OSU.

If people wanna see what underachieving looks like they can look to Florida State and USC. Michigan performs at a level commensurate with their talent the vast majority of the time.

It limits OSU’s ability to use their superior athleticism and speed. Makes it a game fought on the ground and in the trenches. Which favors Wisconsin more than a game in normal conditions.

it isn’t just that the weather makes Wisconsin more one dimensional, it limits OSU’s ability to use their major advantage.

Most of OSU’s run game is based on getting in space and using that superior speed and athleticism, hence his “I hope it rains harder,” comment.

I wouldn’t say OSU’s run game and OL are “better” either, I just think their defense is that good. That’s a boatload of defensive talent that can key in solely on Taylor.

Simply put, the best case for Wisconsin this game was that it became a slugfest in the trenches. OSU has been limited in the use of their speed and athleticism because of the weather, but it isn’t completely eliminated.

New 10,000 point minimum to start a thread...

Not gonna get it from the actual site, but how about the extension add the ability to customize which threads you have to put up with by setting your own minimum point count?

Play two different positions. Gary played Anchor, whose job is to set the edge and allow you to bring pressure from other areas. Gary also has a solid 40 lbs on Young. Young is a pure pass rushing end. You’d be better off comparing Young to Winovich, as their positions and styles are more comparable.

Every level, not every position. That’s possible with only three 5* players. For comparisons sake, when Michigan has Hinton and Dax on the field at the same time, we have 5* at two of the three levels.
