He doesn’t know how to run a balanced offense. Against OSU he got criticized for passing so much, so today he almost abandoned the pass (ran 12 straight times on first down) and tried to run into our strength. And I knew that going for 2 in the first half was going to bite him.
He’s so dumb.

Hat's off to our defense. PSU was constantly getting 5 yards running on 1st downs. But we shut down those 2nd and 3rd downs after that.

His own decisions cost his team today. Multiple terrible choices. Going for two in the first half, going for it on 4th and 7, going for two late and thus keeping it a two possession game ... what a tool.

Eh, as bad as he can be, I actually didn't disagree w going for the 4th and 6 late. With an offense that hadn't done anything the whole 2nd half, he probably felt like it was do or die.
If they'd punted, they were probably looking at getting the ball back with a couple minutes to go- can you imagine them trying to run a 2 minute drill? And thats if they got the stop - we ran well enough that it wouldn't have been surprising to see us just run the clock out.
But yeah, Frames is a bad in-game coach, can't disagree w the overall point.

But statistically it isn’t do or die. You know UM is just going to turtle. He had 2 time outs. A blocked punt or a fumbled punt return. Shit happens. Get the worst unit on the field today, the PSU offense, off the field and see what happens. It’s coaching discipline 101, not the craps table.

Respectfully disagree. After the TD they were down 9. Kick the xp, and your down 8. Yes technically a one score game, but you still have to convert a 2 pointer next time. Better to try it there, so you know whether your going to have to score once or twice.
Going for 2 in the 2nd quarter and 4th and 6 with 4 minutes left were both mind "bottling" dumb.

I’d be interested to see if there is a statistical analysis of that scenario playing out in football history and which is better. Because, if you go for the two later, it seems to me there is a lot more pressure on visiting team if they just allowed you to come back from two TDs down in 2 mins. That might be a psychological advantage on the final 2pt try. Ryan Day has faced that decision in 2021 and I know Brian criticized him on the Blog. But I’d like to see an analysis with some data.

A valid point. But the psychological advantage can cut both ways. If you get the 2 points earlier, the other team knows they no longer have the safety blanket of them needing a touchdown and two point conversion, so you might be more likely to score that second TD.

No, no, no. Failing there, as PSU did, effectively ends the game, in part because the team now knows it can't tie the game with the next possession. It had less incentive because it now KNEW it had like 000.1 percent chance of getting the ball twice.

Absolutely. You can win it all with that defense, an above-average offense and a HC that isn't a total moron. PSU has one of those three things.
