With where they put Notre Dame still, a little surprised our blowing them out wasn't worth more. Also, considering where they put PSU, how do they not value our comeback a bit more? It seems like their reasoning varies to fit with however they feel like voting at any given moment...

2 losses. And the offense wasn't really exciting against Maryland.

Maybe the committee is blaming the weather some on why Notre Dame did so bad. It seemed the weather affected them while it didn't affect Michigan. But who knows. I don't trust the committee.

If Michigan beats OSU then there will be reason to rank them much higher.

Although I agree with you, I think it's a bit nit picky in Michigan's case...they're within 1-2 spots of where they should be.

The teams with major gripes in this poll should be Minnesota and Baylor. How the eff do you have OU over Baylor at this point? Baylor has beaten two top-25 teams on the road by double-digits and has not lost yet...OU has zero top 25 wins and lost once already. Minnesota - granted they have played basically no one - should be at least 5 spots higher than they are because they're undefeated and have blown Big Ten teams out recently. The fact that 6(!) 2-loss teams are ahead of them is absurd.

Yes of course things will change and results will sort things out naturally...but these early polls give us a snapshot of the biases that the committee has. And it's inconsistent as ever - so Clemson's SOS puts them behind PSU, but it doesn't matter when your name is Alabama?  SOS hammers Minnesota to 17 but OU - also having a weak SOS and one loss - gets a top 10 spot? Florida - with two FCS games (which should basically count for 0 wins) and two losses is in the top ten and both them and Auburn are ahead of Baylor? WTF are they even doing?

I'd have Baylor at 9, OU at 10, Minnesota at 11, then put all the two loss teams together. (BTW Florida would not be at the top of the 2-loss teams.  Their best win is a home win against Auburn - another 2-loss team. It's not clear if that's a better win than blowouts against Michigan and ND.  I guess their losses are "better" but I'm not a fan of giving somebody credit for keeping a game close-ish in a loss. Mostly I'd rank them lower because they played 2 FCS teams, and in a  conference where they only play 8 games that's absurd and it should be punished not rewarded.)

Penn State at 4 is somewhat surprising to me. Wisconsin one spot above us at 13 is an interesting point of discussion (obviously head to head matters quite a bit to committee given their horrendous loss to Illinois).

Why?   Based strictly on resume, PSU beat two ranked teams, one on the road. You can make a strong argument they should be 3.

Both of Bama and Clemson’s best win is a meh Texas A&M. Im actually surprised they put Clemson at 5 (and less surprised they kept Bama at 3)

My take is if this were the ranking that actually determined who gets in, then Clemson would be ahead of PSU.  The committee knows PSU and OSU plays and so Clemson will get the auto move up to #4 (assuming they don't lose).  In the meantime, the committee wants to make it appear like they weigh strength of schedule (even though I don't think they really do when push comes to shove).

I think every year the playoff has been released the team ranked at number 3 the first week never makes it in.  This year that would be Alabama.  If LSU beats them in Tuscaloosa and remains unbeaten after that Alabama won't get a chance at the SEC Championship game.  Kinda makes their resume weak especially with their horrible non-conference schedule.

With one loss, LSU still gets in. PSU out. I really hope UM beats OSU. No big ten team will get in, but if it ain’t Michigan in, I ain’t caring. Can ablalama get in twice? Ablalama white vs ablalama crimson for the one versus four, then Clemson vs a third SEC school, maybe Georgia for the two va three. That would be great.

Couple questionable PI calls in happy valley is the difference between Michigan at #14 and out of the playoff hunt

Vs. ranked #6 and controlling our own destiny...

Way to compare apples to oranges to not make a point. Not sure how an end of the game call is in the same boat but whatever makes you feel better.

But maybe you’re right. Michigan played a perfect game. Perfect calls by the coaches, perfect execution, no errors or gaffes. It was those damn refs! 100% refs

Michigan is the captain of its own ship!!!

Life is adversity, you either roll-over (fold) or you get pissed, work harder and make it happen. Over the last decade I've seen people  become weaker, entitled, and simply not willing to take accountability and responsibility for their own lives; they don't want to work!

Our football team is a good case study of the above. What's the difference between the PSU and the ND game? Easy, we decided we REALLY wanted to 'win' the ND game. Michigan proved it could do it, and we seemed genuinely "PISSED OFF". For all rational purposes ND was/is supposed to be a better team

I'll take shit again from the obfuscating tacticians on this site, but this is why Harbaugh pisses me off at times, why the fuck would you spend any time dreaming of a new playoff system... well it's because you're upset that your team isn't going to make it... same advice to Harbaugh... STOP IT! Stop blaming zebras, stop blaming the system, bust your ass and make it happen!
