It just seems like there’s too many unknowns with Michigan basketball right now. We’re in the running for all these five stars, but have only landed one.   I’m not complaining.    With success, Coach Howard will get these guys

McGary was definitely the best recruit of the Beilein era. However, he was not a consensus 5 star (like Todd is)

He was a 4 star (#28 overall) in 247 composite. Another fun fact is that he was only ranked the 3rd best player in NEW HAMPSHIRE that year (behind Nerlens Noel and T.J. Warren)

EDIT: McGary was the best recruit in the sense of where he was ranked when he committed and who Beilein was competing against. In that same class, Glenn Robinson III ended up ranked higher than McGary and I believe was the highest ranked recruit of the Beilein era

"Too many unknowns" hits the nail on the head.  So, it can't be surprising that a lot of these elite players will go elsewhere - until Coach Howard is more of a known factor.  These players have a lot at risk in their choices and want to make sure they're going somewhere where they will have a good experience while enhancing their basketball skills.  With the big offseason changes, Michigan basketball can't check all those boxes right now. Hopefully we will soon - starting with a win against Creighton.

Bummer but no surprise.

I'm hoping for Lander to commit and re-classify.

Todd, Dickinson, Lander, Jackson, Howard would be a pretty awesome class.

Lame

I really thought we would land either Burnett or Moody.

Basketball recruiting is funny.  So much depends on the decisions of just a few players.

I think we all expected it.   Still excited for Howard and believe he will recruit well here given time to get in on kids early in their high school careers.

I mean, UM just threw himself in the Miller chase and his recruitment has been shady.  Also, Todd's recruitment seemed a little...odd.  Whole different world in the Top 25 compared to the Beilein recruits.

Todd's recruitment isnt odd, it basically comes down to the fact that some of those bigtime programs weren't willing to wait and see if hes playing college ball or not. It came down to a program who has a brand new staff and a program that is looking at possible sanctions, both were willing to roll the dice.

Disappointing, but expected. As Michigan shows they will continue to compete at a high level on the court, and some of Coach Howard's philosophies that appeal to top end recruits began to show up on the court, they will come.

Sometimes I really wish I was still in the dark about how things work. Suffice to say there are things Michigan still isn't doing that they absolutely need to be if they want to battle for recruits on this level with a great program like Texas Tech.

To me, that points more at the lack of character that family has than it does at what Michigan is or isnt doing. Howard has known the family since the recruit was little and he still goes somewhere because of incentives? Even if Howard wasnt aware of the dirty hoops recruiting, surely Saddi and Martelli could've filled him in. My only complaint so far, and the staff will figure it out,  is there isnt enough offers out there and Michigan is backing itself into a corner when these kids leave you at the altar.

So, in other words, do you KNOW Alabama, Clemson and others cheat? I dont have to know these teams cheat, especially when insiders who actually cover this stuff for a living, imply such things. That's what I'm basing my comments on, not that I have insider knowledge.

In his eyes he probably sees it as a one year move. And to go play for a team that just played for a national championship with the hottest coach in America, it's hard to blame him with or without the possible incentive$. He wouldn't be the first person in the world to move to an undesirable place for the short term based on other factors.
