An unworking link to a sports illustrated opinion piece about a Tony Garcia tweet that shows a Nik Stauskas Instagram comment.

Well done, OP.

The program is a trainwreck right now with no real tangible thing to hang their hat on for any improvement after this year. Lack of fundamentals, lack of effort and cohesiveness on defense are all indictments of the coaching staff. There is zero to be positive or excited about if Howard remains on and just like in the last few years of Hoke's tenure anyone believing otherwise is just in denial.

Lack of fundamentals

This is what I find most infuriating about the Howard teams. There were times when Beilein teams just got out-talented and it was frustrating, but the games were still worth watching because the players were well coached and at the end you always felt they did everything they could to win. Juwan’s teams consistently play sloppy, undisciplined, and down to their competition.

I was really excited about the state of the program when he was hired and now I don’t go out of my way to watch the games. He might work out as an NBA coach, but he’s clearly in over his head as a college coach.

I would give this post all the points if possible. We were spoiled by well coached teams that *averaged* 3-4 turnovers a game. Now they average just over 12 and it's hideous to watch. Michigan is ranked #211 in turnover rate.

Motivation and team morale aside, the team is poorly coached. Even in some of those early games where the kids still believed, you could see the signs. The turnovers, the defense optional style of play especially at the end of games. The kids weren't getting better or learning after tough losses. That is 100% coaching.

He isn't right.  This is a one and done era.  Is Howard great? No.  But is he solely to blame? No.  The administration not accepting players and players leaving after one year are partly to blame.

I'm not sure Nik is right to blast the players primarily. I think what he sees out on the court more reflects on the coaches (who should all be fired)

Yeah he's not wrong. Look at the successful schools this year. There is a bond among the players that we do not have. I mean, the field of 68, we can't get there, for 2 years now, something is very wrong and you all know what it is.

I don't follow other college hoops teams closely.   So, I have an honest question - How many of Purdue's players are expected to "go pro"?    How many of Purdue's players are "one and done"?

IIRC, Purdue's Jaden Ivey went highly and early in the '22 draft.   No one from Purdue was drafted into the NBA in the '20, '21 or '23 drafts.

If you had a choice - what kind of player would you prefer to see on Michigan's roster?   Would it be a "one and done" who enters the draft as after their freshman / sophomore season - or a "three / four year player" that might not be drafted?    It's not an easy choice.

My preference would be - the three or four year player - so - the player learns the coach's system - becomes sounder fundamentally - develops maturity / leadership on the floor - and it's a TEAM game rather than individual standouts.

IMO - the NBA Draft approach has had a negative effect on college hoops - and, one example is the trajectory that Michigan's been on over the past five seasons.

to be fair to Sauce, the team deserves getting blasted because, as we all know, they’re getting blasted on the court

fire everyone, start over, hire Beilein as an advisor
