NFL Playoffs Start Today - Pickin' and Grinnin'

Mates,
There is some football to play yet this season, albeit in the NFL.  Our own Tom Brady plays tomorrow at 1:00, and here is the line-up.  It is a bit different this year and even includes a Monday night playoff game.  As per usual, the favorite is listed first, the spread and the dog.  Games today are at 4:30 and 8:15, tomorrow at 1, 4:30 and 8:15; Monday at 8:15.  All the home teams are the favorites.  Here goes:

Cincy                 5.5                  LV  (yeah, Harbaugh rumors and such...)

Buffalo               4.5                  Patriots (NE has been hot lately)

Sunday:

Tampa Bradys    8.5                 Eagles

Cowboys              3                   49'ers

KC                     12.5                 Steelers   (Roethlisberger's last game? )

Monday:

Rams                  4                    Arizona

Pick them with the points to be feared by many, admired by all.

Have a great Saturday.  -8 ambient temp up north this morning, -22 with wind chill,  but gloriously sunny.  Getting emails and pictures from friends in Costa Rica.  It is not -8 in Costa Rica.

Bengals, Bills, Bucs, Cowboys, Chiefs, Cardinals to cover.

I'm not a fan of the expanded playoffs in baseball, but I really like having two extra wild cards in the NFL. That was a good move. Adding the 17th game, not so much.

I do hope  Stafford gets his first playoff win. But if he doesn't, that Loins draft pick looks a lot better. Win-win.

They seem to be good at evaluating talent (at the very least) thus far.  Sewell and St. Brown have been studs while Onwuzurike, McNeill, and Melifonwu have been contributors at their respective positions with McNeill and Onwuzurike playing themselves into starting roles.  Derrick Barnes made Jamie Collins expendable early in the season too.  He could have a bright future.

This GM seems to know what he's doing.

Take the prop bet of Burrow throwing for 250+ on alternate passing yards and Jamarr Chase going over 60+ for near even odds, could easily put a 100 or so on that happening and making 100

i usually never make selections much, but today i will:

taking vegas and the points

buffalo

bradys, even though they haven't been very impressive of late and its an 8.5 spread.

cowboys

KC

cardinals, but would be very happy to have stafford win his long-overdue first playoff game.

i attended superbowl 27, one of their 4 consecutive defeats.  feel bad for them, would've been nice to have that fan base win at least one in all of those.

EDIT:  went for a visit on the interweb and came across this little known factoid:

"For their first two seasons, the Bills wore uniforms based on those of the Detroit Lions at the time. Ralph Wilson had been a minority owner of the Lions before founding the Bills, and the Bills' predecessors in the AAFC had also worn blue and silver uniforms.[3][13]

The team's original colors were Honolulu blue, silver and white, and the helmets were silver with no striping. There was no logo on the helmet, which displayed the players' numbers on each side."

and i know that the prior owner, ralph wilson, was a minority owner of the lions way back when, so hey, maybe detroit could adopt the bills?

he was a friend of my dads, and that was how i ended up with tickets at super bowl 27.  i remember we were sitting right in front of dyan cannon and right next to eric clapton and the red head gal from the show 'taxi'.  it was a pretty cool day, though i wish the game had been more competitive. the cowboys beat them like a rented mule.

I like the extra games but I think it’s a mistake to have the 4 and 5 seeds playing Monday night. It’s all but guaranteed that the winner of that game has to travel the next week on a short week.

I believe the NFL has tried to avoid this sort of thing in the regular season.

The Monday game should be the #2 seed who stays home with a win.

I don't bet on sports and don't give a shit about point spreads, so these are just winners outright:

Cincy over LV

Buffalo over Patriots

Tampa Bay over Eagles

Cowboys over 49ers

KC over Steelers

Arizona over Rams (never been a believer in Stafford)

Going to be a Cincy fan next half decade or so.  Fun offense.

Cincy last playoff win 1991.

Lions is 1992.

Bengals may have the best collection of YOUNG skill position players at every position in the league.  (sub 26 year old) They need to fix part of their OL and some defenders but they are fun.   And a downtrodden franchise I can get behind behind in Detroit for decades.

Expect them to get waxed at some point in this playoffs and come back a year from now and be a favorite to win this all if they can fix their holes.  This year is about experience and nothing to lose.  But they are so dang fun.
