I've seen plenty of his comments over the years and never got any whiffs of homophobia, but I've tended to ignore the extended threads where WD and his detractors went at each other.
He put his personal life on display here in ways that most of us avoid doing, and that opened him up to personal attacks that IMO were frequently unwarranted. He also was frequently unable to not respond in kind.
I enjoyed his frequent posts about non-revenue sports, since it meant I didn't have to go to MGoBlue to get it. I don't share his obsession with sports apparel, but if I wasn't interested in a specific post about the latest from MDen I didn't click on it.

Great point about him personalizing his account. It’s intended to be an anonymous board. Even the guys on here who are friends off the blog don’t post personal photos or make cartoon avatars of themselves.

I think he's been issued warnings in the past; I remember he got at least one timeout some years ago for going off on people in a pretty aggressive manner.
I assume he'll be given a chance to come back if he wants once feelings have cooled, but he's also not had a sterling track record.

WD could be annoying at times, but I do think he grew up quite a bit from the RR/Hoke years. Most of his comments that had any name calling that I've seen lately was the guy defending himself from people who tried to make things personal about him. The truth is, over the last couple years Ace has revealed himself to be extremely thin skinned. Disagree with his opinions = automatic ban/block. The fact that he is now trying to retrofit inappropriate comments WD may or may not have made years ago to make his ban seem justifiable is pathetic. Meanwhile the board has never been more full of toxic name calling, trolls, politics, and ads.

He must have taken the examples of the California schools(save USC) and extrapolated them out to the rest of the conference... Kind of like what every single fan in every other conference does. It's irritating, but no less so than the typical UCLA fans defense of, "There's nothing to do in places that aren't LA and that's why those other fans are so crazy" to try to defend the fact that UCLA fans are objectively terrible(I am one and have no issues running down my own tribe in this case).

I’m sad to see WD go. I my fist memory of him was showing the blog that Meijer had Diet Coke bottles with UM on the label. I thought this was completely unnecessary material. As I witnessed more, the dude was free to be a six year old type fan who loved Michigan. He got a little personal and that is too bad. I still will use his YouTube channel, along with parking god, for old games. So long WD, can’t wait to see your new handle.
