Yea, that's way too many barfs, Scotty.  How are they going to be able to out-hit Michigan in another loss with that many barfs?  Jokes aside, this is really dangerous and stupid.  What a moron.

If he's telling the truth, the University should probably step in here and put a stop to this before some kid dies.  If he's exaggerating, then I guess he's trying to impress people by bragging about how much he absues his players.  Either way, not great.

Ask Kirk Ferentz how things worked out at Iowa when they pushed players too hard and a bunch of them ended up in the hospital with rhabdomyolisis.

I'd put nothing past Frost.

For those curious about this condition, here's a link:

Will you ever quit?????

We want some more we want some more we want some more!!!

Also, not deserving of a thread, but saw that they ranked OLs and it was ohio, georgia, UM... how bout.. go F yourself. We abused their OL. Did they SEE what our OL did last year to ohio's vaunted defensive front?? People forget so quickly how they were singing osu's praises on defense.. so many blue chips, blah blah.. and they were coming together. until we beat the living sh* out of them.

Guess we'll prove it on the field! Nice having that confidence again.

If I got to puking, I was in serious trouble., Now I was a smaller person playing basketball.  No clue what the puke profile of big people are.  Can they puke and go on?  Puking and cramping meant stop! If I ignored, that would mean a situation only fixed by an IV.

The OL probably looked back at the QBs they have to block for - that motley bunch of losers taking the snaps for the Cornholes this year would make anyone puke.

Enjoy your last year in Lincoln, Frosty...

I remember puking almost every day when we had our last two weeks of practice before school started.  There was nothing malicious about it, the practices were very hard, it was hot and I'm sure I could have been in better shape.

That being said I think there are way better ways to go about things now that I'm older.  You can still work hard, be a little smarter and probably get more out of your players.  I get the toughness idea but is a fine line between tough and stupid.  I like Frost more than most on this board but this puking thing isn't something I would brag about.

You, as an out-of-shape high schooler, is a bit different than 330-pound college offensive lineman.  These dudes train hard all year round.  As Frost says, they aren't out of shape, the coach is just working them too hard.  Other schools have done similar things and put kids in the hospital, killed them, and faced a bunch of lawsuits.

Plus, it's just not a good way to get better.  Your body needs food for energy and to build muscle.  Making someone throw up during and after a workout isn't going to help them get better.  Working to the brink of injury every day is not a good long-term conditioning strategy.  It's akin to the old-school mentality of withholding water from your players to make them tougher.  It's incredibly stupid.

It's a fine line but it's also a line so bright you can see it from the day side of orbit.  Crossing it is inexcusable if only because it's so flippin' obvious, to say nothing of the actual risks.

If you're puking, you're doing it wrong.  You may be OK, but you're badly coached.  First, if there's any food in there, that's calories that aren't being converted to energy and muscle mass, so the athletes' daily routines are being grossly mismanaged.  And then it's a symptom of heatstroke, dehydration, and rhabdomyolisis.

He's most likely exaggerating, but in any case, "I am a stupid incompetent coach who is so bad at coaching that my players aren't getting the most of practice time and are in literal danger" is a very strange thing to brag about.

Or maybe he's bragging about food poisoning?  Either way. . .

I agree with you that it is dumb, I just think guys puking is probably pretty common.   I don't think anyone is puking 15-20 times and I don't get why anyone would brag about it.  Summer practice has to be brutal for the big boys.  Football still has that tough guy macho mentality.  Frost seems to have that mentality more than most.  I don't think it is advertised but it still exists.  Frost just seems willing to advertise it.

I'm no armchair Dr Joyce Freud, but here's a little arm chair psyche to throw around on a Friday.

Imagine you're a QB who's biggest entre to the national platform was crying on National TV about how your HOF Coach may not get a shot at a National Championship at the dusk of his career. Imagine if much was made about this, and you were known by many as "the crying QB." For years.. "oh you're the guy who cried on TV."

Maybe to some of us who are able to compartmentalize we can put this stuff in it's place. For someone who doesn't have emotional maturity, and who operates in a hypermasculine field, this becomes something of a taste making experience.

You then spend the better portion of your life talking about "manly" activities. Making odd comments about how your team that lost by 30 wasn't "out toughed."  Consciously or not, you spend your brain space proving to everyone how tough you are, or hurdling toughness litmus tests.

Imagine you are this same person, your job is "on the line" and you're trying to impress upon the local media that your kids are tough kids. They're fighting hard for you.  I imagine saying in an interview that 15-20 kids are vomiting daily, would probably seem like something you'd thing was a badge of courage.

While the rest of us just think it's another weird thing Scott Frost said about toughness.

I think Nebraska’s leadership / AD and much of their fan base - felt the Huskers would win the West every season, and win the conference two thirds of the time.  It seems they are realizing the B1G is stronger and deeper than their previous conferences affiliations.

It seemed to me that Nebraska faced one challenging opponent every year - and that was Oklahoma.

Pellini did a lot more than he’s given credit for.

Nebraska's issue is structural. How different is college football now than it was in the 1990's when they were winning national championships? They were light-years ahead in the weight room. They could take Prop 48 kids (other conferences weren't allowing that--and the Big XII didn't when it formed in 1996). They had a really nice niche that put them ahead of a lot of other teams. What are you left with without that--A mediocre school in the middle of the Plains with a lot of tradition nobody under the age of 35 even remembers.

The real issue is they can NEVER get that niche back. They aren't going to dominate in the weight room. Prop 48 is long gone.

I firmly believe one of the reasons they have kept Frost is dumping him is a signal to their fans that the glory days are officially gone and that they've essentially become Iowa.

BB, Prop 48 is a good observation.  IIRC, the walk-on program at Nebraska was noteworthy - as was the Blackshirts for their D.

It does seem your perspective about Frost returning them back to significance is on the mark.  And, what strikes me is - the West is the less competitive division in the conference.  But, to be fair, Nebraska has had to deal with a - usually - challenging- cross division schedule.

it seemed they couldn’t get out of their own way last season.  It will be interesting to see if he can right the Husker ship.

This article - and what it seems their players are going through - it doesn’t strike me as the approach to build player / team morale.

The NU walk-on program was legendary. Take a bunch of big local farm boys that idolized NU football. Put them on a "diet" and weight plan that was second to none. Throw some steroids in the mix and then just beat on the Kansas's / ISU's of the world. Again, the problem for Nebraska is that world is NEVER coming back. You can actually pinpoint the moment Nebraska football crossed into a different world--2001 versus Colorado (lost 62-37, lost the national title to Miami a month later).

As for the here and now, they can certainly be better than last year--by almost any statistical measure they should be. I like Thompson at QB for them.

BB - I don’t follow Nebraska closely, but - I did meet Tom Osborne several years ago.

With the BTN crew visiting the campuses, and the Michigan “review” was earlier this week - it made me think of an early comment that was captured between Harbaugh and Drevno during their first fall camp.  Harbaugh turned to Drevno and said…”I don’t know if we’ll win a single game this season.  I don’t know if we’ll be able to win one.”

IMO, that comment reflected a few things - the first one was fundamentals, and the second was the roster.

Frost inherited a challenging environment - and, as a favorite son - is going to get a bit more latitude than, perhaps, others.  I thought that his time at UCF would provide inroads into recruiting Florida and the SE.  Maybe, he’s gotten some of that talent - and, certainly, that’s a very competitive landscape to recruit.

It will be interesting to see what happens this season.  Indiana, Rutgers, and Michigan are the crossover conference games.  Week 4 hosting Oklahoma might be quite interesting too - they played them tough in Norman last year.

There are metrics to measure performance, effort, and quality of execution.  This is not one of them.

Hard, physically challenging practices and conditioning are fine.  Bodies have a limit to what they can take.  I certainly hope their medical staff is with the team and ensuring the players health and well being are being accurately monitored.

I can't imagine telling recruits that you would love nothing more than for them to come to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they can run out onto a field on a beautiful autumn afternoon....and puke on it.

Bragging that you over work guys doesnt equate to victory or better players. Any coach can work a kid to barf, doesnt make the kid better at football.

Wonder recruiting pitch, I can see the five stars flocking to play for Frost now: Come to Lincoln, Nebraska where you can look at nothing but miles of cornfield for your college experience, outhit your opponents, and puke more times in a single practice than you have won games over your entire college football career.

What an idiot. Bragging about his players consistently showing signs of heatstroke every practice. I can't imagine how that could that could end badly. /s
