NCAA Bball upsets tonight

St. John’s ZAPS #3Villanova 70-59 and East Carolina drops #5Houston 82-73. Looks like we’ll be moving up in the polls while on our Covid break.... Creighton is also in a dogfight with Georgetown on FS1.

UM had a game scheduled tonight against Northwestern. Were we not on this Athletic Department pause could we have been another upset? It seems like February 3rd, 2021 was the right night to miss a game.

Agreed, definitely a concern, but I think one big difference could be that Nova actually had a bunch of cases on the team, while Michigan hasn't yet. I know we've all gotten used to COVID injury reports and team pauses, but it's still a pretty significant illness that definitely can affect how players feel for a long time. Like, who knows how many Nova players still have some minor lingering issues affecting their energy or conditioning or whatever. Not to say that's necessarily the case for them, but hopefully UM can come back out of the gates in less of a place where all the players are in different spots in game readiness.

LaSalle over St Louis!

Fucking Creighton got dunked on by Georgetown and fucked up my 3-leg parlay with Lasalle covering 12.5 (winning) and Incarnate Word covering 6.5 (winning)

Just to get this straight, you placed a bet on the Incarnate Word (6-8) vs. Lamar (4-11) basketball game?  Go Cardinals.

Protip: Never wager on a game when both teams have the same nickname (I actually had no idea where Incarnate Word was located, so I smartly found this out and their school nickname after a brief google search).

Haha I did! I too also did some googling and finally found out where that...university...is located.  I did know they were the cardinals, somehow.

Said parlay would've netted me $10.50 off a $2 bet.  I'm obviously just messing around with this Draftkings stuff but it makes it sort of fun I guess (yet also added stress as I somehow get myself caring way too much about a $1 parlay on 3 MVC teams on a Monday afternoon/evening).

Not an upset but Missouri takes down Kentucky, putting Calipari at 6-12.

So along with Duke, this season will give Juwan a major boost in recruiting advantage vs the blue bloods!

I’m hoping we can pick up where we left off when we come back. I’m concerned that ~3 weeks with no practice or games is going to adversely impact us.

I'm curious how we can continue to move anywhere in the polls but down as we continue to sit out and not play games. Unless everyone in the top ten just starts losing.

Sitting out for a week is one thing. Two weeks, okay. But if we're not playing again for another two weeks, that'll have been nearly a month that this team has sat out. I just don't know how they can keep staying where they are, polls-wise.

I was about to post the exact same thing.  If we really don't play a game until earliest next week, but potentially not for 2 more weeks, at what point do they start punishing Michigan in the tourney seeding?

If I was a fan of a team that was 22-4 at the end of the year and Michigan was 16-3, I would definitely be complaining.

How long did they sit out for? And how many games did they miss? Because at this rate Michigan is going to sit out almost a month, and that's being optimistic, assuming the rumors are true that Michigan won't be coming back until 2/18 at the earliest. It could be even longer.

At a certain point, if I'm the selection committee I really don't have any choice but to start punishing Michigan for not playing. Which I wouldn't blame them for. If Michigan didn't play another game until near tourney time and ended up with a 1 or a 2 seed with a 15-1 or 14-2 record, I'd be absolutely pissed if I was on a team that went, say, 21-4, and got pushed down to a lower seed because of Michigan. The optics and narrative (whether true or not) would be that Michigan decided to intentionally shut down their season so they could just lock up a high seed early and keep the team healthy for the tournament.

If they want to sit out, that's their prerogative, but they shouldn't go up in arms when teams that have played 6-8 more games than them, and have won those games, leapfrog them in the seeding order.

Villanova’s break lasted 12/27- 1/19. They postponed 4 games with St. John’s, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier. It will all play itself out when we get back to playing. With the pandemic going on, no one will have a full schedule. Also I think we’ll get the benefit of the doubt because we are one of only 2 teams, with Baylor, that are top 10 in KenPom AdjO and AdjD.

If we get back to playing next week vs Illinois, we will be entering one hell of a stretch of games. Add in there any possible make-up games and it is going to be tough. If we can go 4-2 in the 6 games with at least one of those wins over Illinois or Iowa, I think we should be in good shape for the top seed.
