MSU Wins Golden Padlock Award for Being the Most Secretive Public Agency

Michigan State University was named the most secretive public agency in the United States by the nation's largest organization of investigative journalists, recognizing what award committee chair Robert Cribb called MSU's "unrelenting commitment to ensuring transparency was avoided."

...

"In our seven years of doing this, it is right up there with some of the most egregious contenders for this honor," said Cribb, an investigative and foreign affairs reporter at the Toronto Star.

University spokesperson Emily Guerrant declined to comment.

"MSU was nominated for keeping sweeping sexual assault scandals under tight wraps, including serial abuse by disgraced team doctor Larry Nassar and hundreds of student complaints against faculty, staff and students," IRE Executive Director Doug Haddix wrote in a May 28 letter to acting Michigan State President Satish Udpa.

Udpa did not respond to the letter or Haddix's invitation to attend IRE's annual awards luncheon.

I've heard sunlight is the best disinfectant. I'd be willing to try fire and brimstone.

"University spokesperson Emily Guerrant declined to comment"

Of course she did.

Athletic rivalry aside, I feel like a public university should be among the more transparent institutions in the state where I live.

That’s funny, it’s like the journalists (at least local ones) just say “Uh, you’re gonna win the Golden Padlock anyway, so why bother...” fuck off to MSU, Graham Couch, etc all and their journalist asshole friends who don’t hold them accountable

This ''Golden Padlock"?  Can it be used to help secure the prison where Lou Anna Simon and the entire rat's nest of Spartie's so-called "leadership" needs to be confined?

Never, ever, ever forget about that scumbag Hollis.

If he was even remotely responsible, many of the catastrophes that happened under his watch would have been stopped sooner. But he never acted, even when everything was exposed to the public.

Hollis should be in jail. How he isn't locked up baffles me still.

Let's start a petition to rename the staee mascot:  "those Bastards".

So, you know, whenever water cooler talk happens, it's like "msu, those Bastards!"

Oh look, "Mike" Dantonio is the 1st signature, and next is Tom "the Shame of Iron Mountain" Izzo.

sharty...No!!!!

Psst - Go Blue.

Can't imagine why Upda didn't want to attend the awards luncheon. Maybe he didn't have a speech prepared. There are too many people he'd have to thank for that award.

I'd tell MSU to eat a bag of dicks, but that seems like something they'd enjoy. I guess I'll tell them to be honest and have integrity since that seems to be torture for them.

RCMB has posted this news and it sounds like a lot of staee fans/alums are still oblivious and/or in denial of what a joke their university has become.  It's another "hit piece", etc.

I can't decide if this is funny or a really scary commentary on allegiance and it's effect on one's judgement and sanity.  Something is very, very wrong there.

I honestly can't imagine Michigan alums being this psychotic, but who knows?

Sadly I think it's the latter. It's exactly what has happened with politics, I see it on both sides, not surprising to see it happening in other areas as well, unfortunately.
