More (new) baseless speculation of Harbaugh to NFL
Apparently he is leading the odds to become the next Carolina Panthers coach: https://thespun.com/nfl/nfc-south/carolina-panthers/betting-odds-released-on-carolina-panthers-next-head-coach
I get that everyone has their hot takes after the way the season began and ended this year, but I just don't see 1) UM letting him go (and for who?) and 2) JH going to Carolina, now, of all options.

He’s a younger Jeff Fisher
December 4th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
That scares me because it means the Cowboys could make a decent hire and be in the Super Bowl next year. It's been so great watching the Cowboys underachieve all these years.

He’ll be the Giants Coach. Match made in heaven (or hell)
December 4th, 2019 at 9:46 AM ^
As far as UM letting him go for an NFL job, it’s not up to them.
No agent in his right mind would let a client like Harbaugh sign a contract that didn’t have a clause that allowed him to leave an NFL job if such an opportunity came up and he wanted to take it. And no college would want to force their coach to stay anyway because of the resentment it would no doubt cause.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:01 AM ^
Maybe you’re right and no agent would allow it....too bad Jim Harbaugh doesn’t have an agent, and Jim Harbaugh can leave if he wants to, it’s not like the UM administration will hold his family hostage or something. Either way, I want him to stay because the grass most certainly isn’t greener anywhere else.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:11 AM ^
Regardless of whether he has a official agent, if you don’t think he has a lawyer read over his contracts then you’re nuts.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:28 AM ^
You guys are arguing semantics. It doesn't matter who would or wouldn't let him leave -- the point is, Michigan ain't firing him and he ain't leaving.

What the hell is "thespun.com" ??
If I click, will I get Russian wife ads?
December 4th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
No ads, just the wife.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:38 AM ^
The ads you see on the internet are not typically chosen by the site you visit. Instead, ad providers, such as Google, use an array of algorithms and data to determine which ads are most likely to land with you. For instance, they will use your browsing history through tracking cookies to determine your interests. It will use analytics through partner sites to see what you are shopping for. It will use your search history to get things accurate, and maybe your approximate location to hone in the relevancy. These ads are designed to target you specifically.
So, yeah. You're probably going to get Russian wife ads.

Journalism is DEAD.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:00 AM ^
I think journalism was always a bit precious on itself. Did we really need Joe Falls to tell us that Torey Lovullo wasn't going to adequately replace Tom Brookens at 3B?
December 4th, 2019 at 10:24 AM ^
Or Mitch Albom writing 5000 words telling us that Michael Jordan was the reason the Bulls ended the Pistons title run in the 1991 playoffs.

Heard Will Cain say he’s a top candidate for the Dallas Cowboys yesterday.

Jim to Baltimore in 1-2 seasons. John to UM.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:15 AM ^
If he did leave, I would be interested in hearing his parting shots. He would certainly give a glowing review of Michigan and only have the best of wishes. However, if there is truth to the financial disadvantages he has gone up against, I'm sure he would have a nice airing of grievances!
December 4th, 2019 at 11:11 AM ^
Probably tell the “Fire Harbaugh” half of the blog to go outside and play Hide and Go Fuck Themselves.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:29 AM ^
Ryan Day would be a great fit imo
December 4th, 2019 at 11:12 AM ^
But he’s going to Cleveland I thought
December 4th, 2019 at 10:48 AM ^
Who is going to be better, Dylan McCaffrey or Joe Milton? I don't know at this point. I like McCaffrey a lot, has the bloodlines and seems pretty accurate and smart, but Milton may be that extra dimension that we haven't seen from a UM QB in a while.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:58 AM ^
What extra dimension? The only thing he has on McCaffrey is a stronger arm. DCaff has more experience, better accuracy, better decision making, and is a faster runner.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
DCaff is smaller, shorter and has been hurt several times...he's also had some accuracy issues over the season but these small time snapshots in various games I don't think are fair to assess. Milton is taller, has a rocket arm and I'm pretty sure would be a good mobile QB.
Not to mention they both will do some growing & maturing which usually results in improved QBs. We have a big stable of, on paper, good QBs now. Next year will be interesting to see if the QB whisperer lives up to his name....unless he's delegated all that to Coach McDaniels.

So can I bet 300 to win 1 when he doesn’t take the job?
Would take some massive capital up front but if you could bet this way (I know you cannot) there have been some real sure things over the past few years.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:00 AM ^
300 means 3-1.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:00 AM ^
Schrödinger's Harbaugh: Simultaneously both a terrible coach who can't win big games and so amazing, he is the leading candidate for every NFL opening every year.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:04 AM ^
Oh shit not this again
December 4th, 2019 at 11:05 AM ^
If Harbaugh does decide to do something else I hope one of Michigan's first calls is Fleck. The guy is detail oriented, a very good coach and knows how to get the most out of his people. Also think he would lead an excellent recruiting effort.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:35 AM ^
If Harbaugh ever left, I swear UM fans would be yearning for him about 5 minutes after his plane departed.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:38 AM ^
If he wants to break the contract, he will. It's not really about UM "letting" him do anything.
Something has to give very soon, because he only has two years left on his contract. And you can't recruit as a dead man walking. If they're gonna double down on Jim, they should extend him soon.
Every day UM just lets that contract just sit there does not help with anything.
December 4th, 2019 at 12:17 PM ^
The thing is, when Harbaugh is burnt out and asks to leave, Warde will oblige....
I'd like to know Warde's short list in case Harbaugh were to leave.

Are either of the Mallory’s still coaching? What about Loeffler?
December 4th, 2019 at 1:12 PM ^
I think the time of gratuitous cheating is over now. Not saying the minor stuff isn't going on, but Saban, Calapari, and now tOSU don't have to throw as much to get players now. Dabo isn't in that league yet.
I will use a friends of friends reference to make my point.
A player known to my extended circle was being recruited by M, Bama, PSU, and tOSU among other schools. My understanding from people who should know is that it was really only PSU & tOSU in serious contention.
TOSU won out because they provided a legitimate opportunity for championships as well as exposure to go pro. PSU could not provide that and neither could M.
December 4th, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
That doesn't make much sense. I guess you could argue the championships part, but exposure to go pro would apply just as much at M or PSU as anywhere. Possibly more if you consider playing time as a factor.
December 4th, 2019 at 2:28 PM ^
Family wanted PSU because of proximity.

It's not if Harbaugh can beat OSU. It's who can beat OSU? Harbaugh came into a very weak team situation and a mile wide gap between our team and practically everyone else. Remember when absolutely anyone could beat us? We lost to RUTGERS fer God's sake! We lost to MAC teams. It was really sad. Harbaugh has closed the gap a lot. We now re-own Sparty. We have closed the gap with the teams we play except for OSU. Nobody is beating OSU this year. Yes, we do have room to improve. Every team does. Unless the Panthers owner throws so much money at Harbaugh that it can't be ignored, he isn't going anywhere.
December 4th, 2019 at 4:41 PM ^
Someone gets it. Less than 10 years ago we were struggling in the bottom of the Big Ten and fighting the Purdue’s and Illinois’ for recruits.

Those bet online odds are dumb. The openers are set by basically one guy who likely spends 10 minutes on them. The limits are so ridiculously small (likely 50 or 100 bucks most times) that no one who has a clue or takes betting seriously is wagering on them.
Plus all it takes is a couple guys to make max bet of 100 dollars on someone and they will completely change the odds. Wish I had an account there to prove how worthless these are
