Moral Support for Mike Hart

Submitted by Denard In Space on February 15th, 2024 at 2:05 PM

After listening to the Roundtable this morning, Sam's comments made it clear that Mike Hart is dealing with a personal issue. The fact that it has lasted this long caused me deeper concern. I don't need to know or want to know what it is, but felt compelled to just post here so we all have a thread to comment our support for Coach Hart. I will speak for myself and say that I am pulling for whatever the best outcome is for he and his family.

We love Coach Hart and everything he has done for Michigan! Hope he and his family work their way through these challenges, whatever they may be. Michigan is behind them!

These types of posts are challenging IMO.  The OP means well but all they seem to do is stir the rumor pot and cause endless speculation as to what's going on with him.

I hope whatever is going on with coach Hart resolves itself soon and favorably.  And the nature of the issue is none of our damn business.

I like this post because it explicitly signals that we're reseting the tone w/r/t the conversation around Hart. Elsewhere more than here, it seems that anything mentioning Hart has devolved into shitposting territory. A lot of us won't listen to the stream, but this feels like a worthwhile post for the good of the order.

I commend.

Only reason it set my alarm off is when they wrote it causes them deep concern.  We have no idea what he's going through, for it to last a month or so cannot be a logical reason for deeper concern.

Yes, we all know he's been dealing with a personal issue since he missed the parade and celebration at Crisler.   We don't even know if it's anything to do with himself directly or him supporting a loved one going through illness.

We simply have no clue, so yes I wish him the best, we all love him and respect him and admire him.  There's nothing new to add because Sam Webb said he's still dealing with it a few weeks later.

FWIW my intent wasnt to critique, it was to warn.

I've just seen so many of these through the years go exactly the opposite of what the OP intended because a poster (or posters) heard something they wanted to share.  Hopefully this one stays positive only and as you correctly note, so far it has.

It’s not like OP specifically mentioned personal items that Coach Hart might be dealing with. He more or less acknowledged the lack of insight given to his current status. Hart has done a tremendous job imo and I’m sure with the recent coaching shakeup he’s had to put some career goals into perspective.

I don’t see anything wrong with the OP and I don’t think it’s anywhere near the amount of inflammatory gossip that gets thrown around on this board as of late as if it’s a high school lunch table with the Mean Girls.

If praying and/or caring for others is your thing, the only way to know people are going through a difficult time is through thoughtful communication.

I applaud the OP for informing the MGo community about a well known former Michigan football player and current coach potentially being in a difficult situation without speculating as to what is going on.

None of us know what little things make a difference in other people lives. Maybe this post will be one of those things.

It has clearly been mentioned that Mike Hart is dealing with some personal issues.  Creating a post titled "Moral Support for Mike Hart" is a great thing!  To try to twist it into anything else is just ridiculous.  If the OP would have created a post called "what is happening with Mike Hart" that would be different.

I love Mike Hart and as others have said he will always be a Michigan Legend and a true Michigan Man!

People were already making assumptions (some of them negative) about Hart because of his unknown employment status. Sometimes we need to be reminded these are human beings with real problems and cut them a little slack. You think it will lead to stirring the rumor pot. I think it's the opposite. I'm not alone in assuming Hart was unhappy he wasn't chosen to be head coach and was seeking greener pastures. Instead, it sounds like he's going through some shit. Now people will know and hopefully give the man some space.

I think the OP brings up a much larger point about the mental and psychological demands of coaching in college sports, most notably football.

It’s no secret the toll it takes on a coach to have to recruit, game plan, scout/watch film, talk to the media, and coach on Saturdays, not to mention have a life outside of your profession. This is not a job where work/life boundaries really exist and those most committed to their jobs likely have the best results. To say college coaches are under a lot of pressure is an understatement.

All this is to say that I hope Coach Hart is able to deal with the constraints of the job and handle his business at home in the ever-changing jungle that is the current state of college football.

I always find posts like this amusing as if someone from MGoBlog is knocking on Hart’s door asking for an interview. It’s an internet blog post on a message board. I don’t think we’re crossing any lines here or planning to hack into his tech devices anytime soon. Speculation is fine in small doses like these.

I'll go the other way with you.

We're an internet message board. Do we think Mike is reading this and getting warm and fuzziness? Probably not.

But we know people come here and rip info and post it on X and Reddit.

So at best this stuff is self congratulatory to make us feel good that doesn't do anything for Mike Hart, but has the potential to drum up rumors when we could just leave well enough alone.

I hear ya, but the cat is out of the bag already (and was before this post). Setting a clear tone for how we at mgoblog are (and should) handle this has a purpose that isn't self-congratulatory. For people even somewhat close to MH who frequent this board to see one community providing uniformly positive support may have a positive impact. Takes so little...

Na, that's a dogshit attitude.  Speculating a about someone's personal life is awful, maybe doing it only a little bit is only a little bit awful.

Imagine internet strangers speculating about someone in your family's problems or something.  It gives me an awful feeling at least.

Love Coach Hart and I wish him all the best, but i dont have a clue what he is dealing with and i wont wonder or pretend to make an educated guess either.

No one here is speculating. If anything, OP's post blunts some of the uglier speculation out there about Coach Hart's absence and refocuses readers on showing support for a valued coach and decorated alum of the program. He's dealing with a personal issue, we support him wholeheartedly, and we're pulling for him. That's it.

^^^^  Exactly.

Most everyone's life has ups & downs.   It can be with children, parents, a significant other, or yourself.

Regardless of what it is - thoughts and wishes to Coach Hart and anyone close to him that's dealing with this.   (FWIW - I don't know "what it is" - and, it's none of my business - personal stuff is just that - personal stuff.)

Pull it down!   And, as the banner which he's touched many times says: "Go Blue!  M Club Supports You."

Coach Hart is incredible and he's done an absolutely fantastic job with our backs since he's been back in Ann Arbor.  Love that guy, loved watching him churn out yards and pile up touchdowns when he wore the winged helmet and as always want nothing but the best for him.

I haven't listened to the Roundtable yet, but is Hart still considered to be on Michigan's staff? I've been wondering about this since the season ended. From what I can find, his last contract ended at the conclusion of the season. I haven't seen anything mentioned of a new contract, but I've seen people mention that he's on personal leave -- but in my mind you'd need to be under contact to take leave. I dunno.

Regardless, all the best to Mike. He's right there with Woodson on my Mount Rushmore of Michigan players from my youth.
