Mike Miller to take Asst Coaching Job?
Tony Paul is reporting that current Westchester Knicks head coach is taking a job on Juwan Howard’s staff:

Miller is the reigning GLeague coach of the year. He’s been involved in college basketball recruiting and run two programs. He did win a conference championship at Texas State, and his Knicks teams have made two straight playoffs. He obviously know what the NBA is looking for and I think that’s an interesting recruiting pitch.
How credible is Tony Paul?
Very. But people on this board believe what they want to and don't believe what they hope is false. So what's credibility when you have cognitive dissonance?
Miller would be a good get.
My only hesitation is that its only Paul reporting it and very few Michigan guys. With that said, Tony Paul has an excellent reputation and I don't think he'd stake it on something that's a half-step off his beat unless he was absolutely sure about it.
Hope he drops bags like the Mike Miller currently at Memphis.
I recall a Tony Paul who used to be a sports writer for one of the Detroit dailies. Is this the same guy?
Yes. He still is a writer for the News, but b/c of budgets cuts and/or managerial decisions is a "general assignment" writer.
He just wrote a couple weeks ago a very poignant story about the Tigers fan who caught the ball that gave Pujols' 2000 RBI.

Today I learned there are 2 mike millers who coach college basketball
I was thinking it was the other Mike Miller.
Same here. Didn't know there was two of them.
Well, I'll piss on a sparkplug! Great hire if true.
Has head coaching experience from Illinois and Texas, 2 good recruiting states. Also is reigning GLeague COY meaning he can develop young talent.
Im all for it
Even more so, regarding G-Leauge coach of the year, I was like, "OK, that's nice, I guess?" Here's the list of past winners:
2016-17: Jerry Stackhouse, Raptors 905
2015-16: Dan Craig, Sioux Falls Skyforce
2014-15: Scott Morrison, Maine Red Claws
2013-14: Conner Henry, Fort Wane Mad Ants
2012-13: Alex Jensen, Canton Charge
2011-12: Eric Musselman, Los Angeles D-Fenders
2010-11: Nick Nurse, Iowa Energy
2009-10: Chris Finch, Rio Grande Valley Vipers
2008-09: Quin Snyder, Austin Toros
Every other name is either a current Div 1-A head coach or a successful NBA coach. So that's better than "nice" and it seems like it's a good get by Juwan.
Appreciate the supportive data.
This looks like it could be an ideal fit with college coaching and recruiting experience.
Mike went 75-62 as HC of the TSU Bobcats and 75-130 as HC of the EIU Panthers. (1 NCAA Tourney)
HC of the Westchester Knicks (G-League) he's at 108-92. (2 conference semi-finals)
I thought it might have been the ex Gator-NBA player, which might have been interesting, but a G-league coach would be great. I imagine that it would be a strong bridge between high level college and the NBA.
So not that Mike Miller(Juwan’s former teammate with the Heat)
maybe juwan will be surprised when THIS mike miller shows up in ann arbor.
It won’t take long when notices this one isn’t walking with crutches.
In that 2012 Finals Miller got open look after open look because it took him 12 seconds to get past half court
Coaches the team that Zak Irvin plays on.
Wonder where hes at with Howard Eisley or Tim Hardaway, who obviously are both NBA assistants?
I'm seeing Eisley rumors on the twittersphere
Coached Trey Burke
No doubts about Juwan Howard and leading a high level basketball team...
I thought Mike Miller was Penny’s assistant at Memphis?
Different Mike Miller. That Mike Miller can dunk.
This would be a really good hire if true. He's an experienced coach with the vast majority of it occurring at the college level.
If this hire happens.......my opinion of Juwan Howard's ability to hire assistant coaches will sky rocket !!
Is this YTMM or NTMM?
I could dig this hire.
This guy has a good resume and in the future when Juwan inevitably leaves for the NBA, MIller could prove himself to be a solid future head coach candidate
I'm confused as hell. Which Mike Miller are all of the favorable comments for?
RCMB approves this message. ?
Interesting developments tonight....
Now Tony Paul is saying that perhaps Mike Miller isn't happening and it's actually Phil Martelli, the former coach who was just let go by St. Joseph's.
- Been a college coach for 20+ years
- Has tons of experience recruiting in the Philly / NYC area
- In known for being the coach that works with guards and focuses on aggressive guards (yes please)
If this is the direction Howard is going, I APPROVE!
