Mike Miller to take Asst Coaching Job?

Tony Paul is reporting that current Westchester Knicks head coach is taking a job on Juwan Howard’s staff:

Miller is the reigning GLeague coach of the year. He’s been involved in college basketball recruiting and run two programs. He did win a conference championship at Texas State, and his Knicks teams have made two straight playoffs. He obviously know what the NBA is looking for and I think that’s an interesting recruiting pitch.

Yes. He still is a writer for the News, but b/c of budgets cuts and/or managerial decisions is a "general assignment" writer.

He just wrote a couple weeks ago a very poignant story about the Tigers fan who caught the ball that gave Pujols' 2000 RBI.

Even more so, regarding G-Leauge coach of the year, I was like, "OK, that's nice, I guess?"  Here's the list of past winners:

2016-17: Jerry Stackhouse, Raptors 905
2015-16: Dan Craig, Sioux Falls Skyforce
2014-15: Scott Morrison, Maine Red Claws
2013-14: Conner Henry, Fort Wane Mad Ants
2012-13: Alex Jensen, Canton Charge
2011-12: Eric Musselman, Los Angeles D-Fenders
2010-11: Nick Nurse, Iowa Energy
2009-10: Chris Finch, Rio Grande Valley Vipers
2008-09: Quin Snyder, Austin Toros

Every other name is either a current Div 1-A head coach or a successful NBA coach. So that's better than "nice" and it seems like it's a good get by Juwan.

I thought it might have been the ex Gator-NBA player, which might have been interesting, but a G-league coach would be great. I imagine that it would be a strong bridge between high level college and the NBA.

Coaches the team that Zak Irvin plays on.

Wonder where hes at with Howard Eisley or Tim Hardaway, who obviously are both NBA assistants?

If this hire happens.......my opinion of Juwan Howard's ability to hire assistant coaches will sky rocket !!

I could dig this hire.

This guy has a good resume and in the future when Juwan inevitably leaves for the NBA, MIller could prove himself to be a solid future head coach candidate

Interesting developments tonight....

Now Tony Paul is saying that perhaps Mike Miller isn't happening and it's actually Phil Martelli, the former coach who was just let go by St. Joseph's.

- Been a college coach for 20+ years
- Has tons of experience recruiting in the Philly / NYC area
- In known for being the coach that works with guards and focuses on aggressive guards (yes please)

If this is the direction Howard is going, I APPROVE!
