Mike Hart offered RB coach job at Michigan
Lots of smoke to this, so I reached out just now and was told Mike Hart has been offered the RB coach job at Michigan, no word on whether or not he's accepting the job. Makes a lot of sense why JayBaugh is now ST coach.
Pretty sure UMBIG11 and others may have broke this news, but I was able to confirm the rumors just now.
Cheers

Indiana = pan + flash therein

"Three years from now?"
Not saying Hart is crazy to come, but yes that's entirely possible actually.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
Maybe because he loves Michigan?
January 13th, 2021 at 9:48 AM ^
Because he loves his alma mater and wants a chance to help bring them back to prominence? Maybe there's a shot he can get some co-OC action too.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:48 AM ^
I'm really not sure what he does over there, other than coach RB's. They have a running game coordinator, and they are only paying him $300,000. I would think a move to UM would be a little bit better than lateral, plus a bump in pay. Why not?

Please read another scripture before next post.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:21 AM ^
Really Preacher? I would be shocked (knowing their frosty history) that if Harbaugh called Hart to come home that he wouldn't accept. Regardless of his coaching style we need his attitude infused into this team's culture.....period.

We are currently ranked 13th in recruiting, Indiana is ranked 62nd.
We have Haskins, Charbonnet, Corum and maybe even better than those guys, Donovan Edwards.
Their best back Stevie Scott may declare.
Where would you rather be?
January 13th, 2021 at 11:06 AM ^
What Minnesota was to 2019 Indiana was to 2020.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
Just last week you posted some long diatribe about how Michigan fans need to grow the fuck up and support their program and now you’re saying the program is a leaking ship. Maybe you should go back and reread what you posted and take your own advice.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:35 AM ^
Because. Just because.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:36 PM ^
Indiana to Michigan is not a lateral move, well historically speaking...
January 13th, 2021 at 3:47 PM ^
Why exactly is Indiana "a better program"?
I would be cautious about using the 2020 season for gaging anything. Let's see how Indiana looks when everyone has a spring practice with a full training camp. Outside of 2020, Tom Allen's best season was an 8-5 records which was equal to Harbaugh's worst season. I know I said to not read a whole lot into 2020, but Indiana ended the year losing to a 5-5 Ole Miss team.
The Michigan position is much better, especially for an alum.

If true; Come Home Mike Hart! In a few years he could be Co-DC.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:01 AM ^
A seriously talented man.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
Hart as Co-DC?
if huge; true!
January 13th, 2021 at 9:52 AM ^
This one makes sense (as opposed to Woodson to coach defensive backs). Hart is an experienced coach and has risen through the ranks. He’s feisty too—remember his rant about Harbaugh a couple years ago? Hoping he can be that recruiting wild animal they need.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:02 AM ^
Agree with most of the post, but I'm not sure he is really known as a stellar recruiter, which is a little surprising. Maybe that changes with UM's resources.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:53 AM ^
Hey, I'll be happy if he comes over. But if he's not being offered more than RB coach, given Harbaugh's unstable position, I would not be surprised at all if he decides the situation he has now is preferable. I get this is his alma mater that he loves. But if he thinks Jim could get fired in a year and he will be on the street with him, I don't think it's crazy for him to see that as too big a risk.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:08 AM ^
Harbaugh's not really 'unstable.' He has his extension, he has his past success and he's Jim Harbaugh. Any thought of 'sinking ships' and the like is hyperbolic.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:12 AM ^
I think it's reasonable to see the buyout being so low as basically a message from Manuel saying that Harbaugh has a short leash. If he goes 7-5 this year in the regular season and the recruiting class is mediocre, I think Harbaugh is gone. And I think those outcomes are highly possible.
I also think 9-3 and a top ten recruiting class are possible, and I think that would make Harbaugh's situation considerably better. But it is very fluid, I think, despite the appearance Manuel tried to give by making the extension 5 years.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:31 PM ^
I guess it depends on how you define “unstable”. His extension was written to be anything but a long term option. In 2 years he’ll either be fired or achieve greatness and renegotiate. Either way, something will happen in two years and I’m not sure that has ever been the case with a contract extension at Michigan. No one reading the terms of this contract is going to feel like Harbaugh isn’t still on the hot seat.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:17 PM ^
Do you think Warde would fire him?
January 13th, 2021 at 10:07 AM ^
Job #1: turning Charbonnet and Edwards into a two-headed running back beast.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:14 AM ^
No Haskins? He was easily the best RB in (the limited) 2020. Not to mention Corum looked pretty darn good in his limited touches.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:21 AM ^
Everyone keeps talking about Charbonnet. Meanwhile, Hassan Haskins just keeps on keeping on as the best runner in the entire backfield. Full Stop.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
Haskins is good!
January 13th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
So by saying "full stop", is that an edict to cut off debate?
January 13th, 2021 at 12:32 PM ^
I think he’s still sending telegrams.
But I agree that Haskins is our best RB. Which makes the fact that our staff had him playing at LB part time a laughable example of their talent evaluation and development.
January 13th, 2021 at 1:41 PM ^
"I think he’s still sending telegrams."
+1, I lol'd.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Pretty sure it's a nod to Valenti's hot take on Juwan being hired. Posted earlier.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:27 AM ^
How about one like Bama did with Harris? That seemed to work better than constantly rotating guys at the position.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:21 AM ^
Job #1 is actually determining the rotation. Haskins and Corum looked every bit as good as ZC and Edwards will be a true freshman.
It's certainly a first-world problem, but Hart will have to design a rotation that:
- Identifies our best talent and has a clear #1
- Uses all of our talent effectively
- Keeps everyone happy, if possible
That is no easy task, but we can't have another year of a "4-headed monster" where no RB ever gets a rhythm.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:26 AM ^
Wow. Past differences are apparently water under the bridge between Harbaugh and Hart. It's nice to see. And while we lament the "Michigan Man" qualifications that sometimes held us hostage, Hart seems extremely qualified for the position.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:35 AM ^
Hey, I know most of us are in a dark place concerning the football program, but this is great news. Great to have Mike Hart back at Michigan.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
Has he actually accepted?
January 13th, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
Hart also has good ties to the SW Ohio and Mid-South Indiana / Kentucky recruiting areas. I know he personally has a lot of friends in the Dayton area coaching scene (he used to come to Dayton area a lot when he was still playing in Indy for social reasons). Not a hotbed, but additional inroads to talent bases in Dayton / Cincinnati / Indianapolis is good.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
Now can we get Woodson to come in to coach the secondary?
January 13th, 2021 at 11:33 AM ^
A guy who has literally never coached or recruited in his entire life who has zero experience playing against modern college offensive schemes? Great idea!
January 13th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Position coaching and recruiting are much different than being a coordinator or head coach. You are teaching fundamentals, technique and scheme of the position, and your success as a player carries a ton of weight in recruiting.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
Cool! Except that changes nothing I said. Playing a position well doesn't mean you can coach it well. Recruiting potential in some hyopthetical world is not evidence of actual recruiting ability. You need to understand a scheme to coach a player to translate fundamentals to results within a system, and having zero experience playing or coaching against modern CFB offenses has a learning curve regardless of how smart you are.

If it’s true, then I’m guessing Hart has resolved whatever grievance he might’ve had with Harbaugh. I’m pretty sure at one point, after Harbaugh made his comments about Michigan academics sliding for football players, Hart said he wasn’t a true Michigan man and he’d never want to meet him or shake his hand.
I would guess that 13 or 14 years passing allow someone to do that. But if he shows up, I don’t care that he’s an alum. Can he recruit, and can he coach? That is all I care about. That is all that anyone should care about.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:52 AM ^
Yeah I'd imagine it's no biggie. All of the important people in my life and I have fought at some point or another. It's how we know we can trust each other. We can stand our ground, disagree, and find a way through it.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
THIS WOULD MAKE ME SO HAPPY!!!!!!
January 13th, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
If he's a good coach, hiring him would be fun.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:32 AM ^
I think that Jay Harbaugh deserves a lot of credit for his coaching of the running backs and his willingness to step aside to accommodate a new RB coach going forward. I think Jay will do a great job with special teams.
As for Mike Hart, he is one of my favorite Michigan players of all-time (the others are Charles and Jim) due to his tenacious determination to succeed. That, and his success with less talented players at Indiana, makes this a great choice for me.

I mean, what other options does the guy have besides taking a demotion? It's the equivalent to Harbaugh waiting on NFL job offers - there weren't any.
