Played at Michigan from 1993-96 and then an intern/grad assistant from 1997-2000. Had been with Brian Kelly since 2004 at Central, Cincinnati and Notre Dame.

BREAKING: #NotreDame defensive line coach Mike Elston is expected to leave South Bend for the same position at #Michigan.

People who know football, dline coaching and know Elston say it’s a great hire.

Harbaugh, he used to shut rumors down immediately and doesn’t now.  I think he talks to the people he needs to and that’s it.  He isn’t in limbo, the fan speculating is.  He’s not going to answer, he will sign when he signs and it’s that simple imo.  After the talk to fire him he no longer cares to answer the bell for this stuff.  He talks to staff, recruits and parents, probably Warde and that’s about it

I agree,Harbaugh has said he would do the job for free, So do we even know if contract discussions are even going on.He said after the playoff loss that this was just the beginning.meaning hes striving to take this program to new levels. if there are contract talks going on we may not here about it until its approved by the board, with no formal announcement. He isnt in a contract year so it may be business as usual for Jim.

…and Brady Hoke said he would walk from San Diego to Ann Arbor for the job! Yet he still took a private plane to get here for his opening press conference.Coaches say a lot of things at press conferences that they don’t mean literally. Don’t kid yourself that he took the pay cut personally last year. The extension would be announced publicly because it would be advantageous for recruiting and the collective psyche of the program.

I'm not thinking about his contract either. I'm thinking 12-0 is really possible next year. I'm thinking there's 8 home games, and hoping there will be regular maze outs. I'm thinking Jim Harbaugh is way beyond contract talks, and is focused on building a team that can beat Alabama and Georgia.

Can someone explain something to me? If this suggests Harbaugh is staying, then why isn't there an announcement yet? There clearly is no leverage anymore, so what are we waiting for? What's the play by Harbaugh?

There is always leverage until he actually signs. I don't think Michigan wants to take the risk that they can just wait indefinitely. He's coach of the year, a really good pro coach and college coach who is a Michigan loyalist. Perhaps there is work being done on the NIL or they are waiting for the powers that be to get on board.

I really like that he was likely a grad assistant under Brady Hoke (assuming hw was working with Dline then), whom I mad respect as a Dline coach. This seems like an excellent hire, and a guy who might want to be here for a long while.
