Over the weekend, the Michigan Women's Rugby team traveled to Houston to defend its national title in Division I of the National College Rugby league. They emerged victorious to claim back-to-back titles. Congratulations to Head Coach Jamie Frech and all the members of the team!

I've been a rugby player for almost 30 years.  It is rough for sure, but it's less violent than football IMO.  No high tackles, no throwing your body like a missile, no blocking, no armor.  When played within the laws of the game, it is actually quite safe:  tackles, rucks, mauls, and scrummages all have techniques which must be used (primarily playing the game on your feet).  It's the fitness required to enjoy playing the game that was always my greatest challenge.  Anyway, congrats to UMWRFC for a job well done.

Hearty congrats to the women rugby players representing U-M.  As a member of Olde Blue from my days as part of UMRFC, this is a tremendous accomplishment.   Way to set the tone!!
