Michigan vs MSU/Purdue Night Games on NBC
Both at 7:30 on nbc per Brett McMurphy

What's a "Purdue"?
Feels like the last time we played those guys in the regular season I was still in school.
You're in Ohio, visit your OSU neighbors and ask them about Purdue. They will likely tell you politely they don't want to talk about it.
The last time we played Purdue at home...Obama was still in his first term. We have hosted Hawai'i twice since then
Which makes sense given Obama’s Hawaii connections.
I went to that game in 2011. Barely a minute and a half into the game, Purdue got off a bubble screen pass that went 67 yards for a touchdown.
But we outscored them 36-7 the rest of the day. Denard threw for 170 yards and Fitz Toussaint matched him on the ground and ran for 170 yards.
Michigan/Purdue used to be a nearly annual game, aside from the occasional two-season hiatus. Between 1895 and 1952 there were only 11 games played. Starting in 1961 it became rare for them to not play. The stretches of games played are from 1961-66, 1969-86, 1989-1996, and 1999-2012. So in 52 years Michigan/Purdue was played 48 times. Since then? Just the one regular season game, in 2017. The last trip to Ann Arbor Purdue has made was in 2011!
The Big Ten has done a shit job rotating the schedules around. There is absolutely no reason for conference teams to play one another only once in over a decade.
back when I was in school at UM in the 80's it seemed like we played almost every team every year.
That’s because we did. There were nine other teams in the conference, and we played eight per year (for a couple years we played all nine).
I left of the /s
It looks like 1984 was the last 9 game conference schedule until 2016.
"conference" now mostly means "media rights organization"
Nice.
Really hoping @Minnesota is 330 or 730!
So we're still waiting on CBS to announce their B1G lineup. They'll carry a limited number of 3:30 games (7 in 2023 vs 14-15 games per year from 2024-2029 ) since this is the final contract year with the SEC.
CBS has already announced their 7 B1G 2023 time slots (they definitely needed to "wedge" these in there, given their SEC deal and wanting limited overlap with other B1G OTA slots):
- Saturday Sept 2: OSU @ Indiana, 3:30 PM
- Sunday Sept 3: Northwestern @ Rutgers, Noon
- Saturday Sept 9: UNLV @ Michigan, 3:30 PM
- Saturday Sept 23: Iowa @ Penn State, 7:30 PM
- Saturday Oct 28: TBD, Noon
- Saturday Nov 4: TBD, Noon
- Friday Nov 24: Nebraska @ Iowa, Noon

Ahhh, thank you. I somehow missed that.
So does this mean Michigan's games not announced as on NBC or CBS will all be at noon on Fox, or am I forgetting another TV partner (maybe BTN?) - That'd be @Nebraska, @ Minnesota, vs Indiana and @ Maryland
You answered your own question.
Yes, FOX, yes BTN. That said other than maybe Indiana, I can't imagine any of those games on BTN. Sounds like some Big Noon Kickoff with Gus and Joel.
Obviously they've done the majority of our games as of late, including games like Maryland and Indiana (they did both of those last year).
edit: I'm not sure how FS1 works, but I suppose we could have a night game on FS1. I feel like we've had those sprinkled in over the years.
Fair point, I was mostly trying to figure out if we knew the time of day for these games by process of elimination. But I guess since a BTN or FS1 game can be at any time of day, we don't really know yet
Yeah, sparties are already spartying. Calling it the Tunnel 8 revenge game. 🙄
I just want to scarf down this cream puff on the schedule and get the hell out the landfill without any major injuries on or off the field.
I also want NBC to get the after game shot in the tunnel of our entire team happily skipping down the tunnel to the locker room.
Complete NBC B1G schedule if no games flexed to different network:
Sept 23 Maryland at Mich St 3:30 pm
Sept 30 Illinois at Purdue 7:30 pm
Oct 7 Purdue at Iowa 7:30 pm
Oct 14 Iowa at Wisconsin 3:30 pm
Oct 21 Minnesota at Iowa 3:30 pm
Oct 21 Michigan at Mich St 7:30 pm
Oct 28 Ohio St at Wisconsin 7:30 pm
Nov 4 Purdue at Michigan 7:30 pm
Nov 11 Maryland at Nebraska 3:30 pm
Nov 11 Mich St at Ohio St 7:30 pm
Nov. 18 Nebraska at Wisconsin 7:30 pm
Nov 24 Penn St vs Mich St (Ford Field) 7:30 pm
Man, those are some late in the season night games! Bundle up friends. And hope Fickell has some special sauce waiting for his alma mater.
With climate change, the temperatures in November will be traditional October temperatures.
Personally, I like the warmer weather late into the season.
There are only 2 more outdoor night games than before. As the B1G was previously allowed to flex thru Daylight Savings Time (see Michigan-Rutgers Nov 5, 2022) without member institution consent, this year's Nov 4 Purdue-UM game would have been eligible. Only Nov 11 sparty-OSU and Nov 18 Neb-Wisc are new late time slots outside, with sparty playing PSU in the Detroit Lion Dome.
It will be interesting to see how November night games are scheduled starting in 2024. I would guess a good share will be at USC/UCLA to minimize Midwest night game outdoor exposure.
What do they mean flexed to different network? Can both of these games still be on Fox at noon if the match up is better than expected?
Good, kick their asses in prime time!
3 straight weeks of McNamara and All.
That's a lot of Iowa!
That’s cool 👍 I’m ready to see Mac and All tear it up. Apparently NBC is also.
Meanwhile, Vlad, I wish to place the bet you mentioned on the UM/MSU Likely a Night Game thread.
Warde Manuel gets a lot of blame for things I don't believe he has a ton of control over but this is a situation where I really wished he had flexed some muscle and told the TV scheduling that this is likely to be a blowout that turns nasty late and nobody is going to benefit.
IMO, game times and dictating to TV falls pretty firmly in the bucket of "things Warde Manuel doesn't have a ton of control over." There's not a ton of muscle for him (or any other AD/school) to flex.
Michigan vs MSU will always be desirable to the TV folk. It's usually not a "Tier 1" game, but it's almost always "Tier 2", even in years where one team is not particularly good.
Saying Michigan will not play on a Friday night is a thing Warde can do. Saying we won't play MSU at night? Not so much.
Aside from being vocal about big time opponents at night in Nov or playing home games on any day that isn’t Saturday, there’s not much U-M can do. TV networks have all the power. We literally played a home game vs. MSU at night last year late in Oct when it was expected to be a blowout.
Just glad they're on non-streaming television.
i don't want to play MSU anymore.
I wish NBC would stick to ND. Why are we funding/supporting NBC to then fund ND???
It is interesting to look at ND's schedule this season - and, particularly - which ND games will be on NBC at night. It seems that two ND games will be evening broadcasts - those two are 1) Ohio State (in September) and 2) USC (in October).
ND is also scheduled to play AT Clemson - but, no start time has been scheduled for that. Coincidentally - that ND vs Clemson game (which I would guess will be at night - and, broadcast on ABC) - is a direct scheduling conflict with Purdue at Michigan.
As for that Purdue at Michigan on November 4th - it reminds me of the Indiana game - also early in November - in Ann Arbor - and, played at night.
Pretty sure Big Ten teams make more money from our TV deals than ND does.
I doubt this will go well. Just get the win and get our fans and players out of there safely.
Can’t wait to hear the whole week leading up to the MSU game how the MSU players and faithful are labeling this as a revenge game. Will probably get some ridiculous hashtag like #justiceforthe7
That’s the one game I always wish never gets a night game. It’s the one game I don’t derive any enjoyment out of watching, regardless of result. it’s like getting a root canal. It’s painful, no matter the result, and I’d rather just get it over with as quickly as possible so I can move on with my day.
The 2019 blowout that put the nail in Dantonio’s coffins was quite cathartic and a lot of fun. Wish they went like that more often. Last years should have if not for putrid red zone offense leading to 5(!!!) FGs (thankfully Weiss is gone)
Even as a Michigan fan in East Lansing, Braylonfest was a whole lotta fun!
cool. theyll be amped up on all the roids and be ready to go. i hope our guys remember the tunnel as our own rallying cry ... our players were the victims, not them.
This is a stunningly bad idea. I just hope our players and fans get out of there safely after we beat them by 30
