Michigan Twitter Follows

Submitted by MGO95 on June 4th, 2019 at 11:14 AM

I know long ago in the dark years of MGoBlog 2.0 there was a sidebar with a list of worthy twitter follows and other blogs. Does anyone have a list of the best people to follow re Michigan Sports? Not just reporters or bloggers but people like Ant Wright too who have a connection to Michigan sports and are entertaining? I also think a good crowdsourced list would be worthy to keep under Useful Stuff or stickied somewhere.

Thanks!

Follow the right people and I don't think most will view it that way, and you'll see it's a valuable tool especially for certain sub-cultures (sports gambling, golf, ect) that you'll find great info .  I never understand people that always say this and people agree with it.

But yes, if you're an athlete or very famous celebrity,  and you read the replies to your tweets or your  "@'s" then yes, then you're right, you'll probably see the ugly side of twitter.  For instance,  I don't know what Zach Gentry was expecting to find right after he went on twitter right after the OSU game (to clarify, I don't condone idiots that tweeted at him, but my point is, there's going to be some real bad eggs that are going to send nasty stuff his way)

Totally agree. It takes time and experience to curate your feed to your liking. It took a lot of trial and error to filter out the accounts that insist on wailing about politics. For me, Twitter is nothing but sports and comedy. It's a constant source of on-topic entertainment.

I think Twitter is an inherently useful tool. Get a quick update without having to read through an entire article to get the information I want.

But you are correct in that there is a LOT of misinformation out there. The blessing of social media is also a curse: everyone has a voice. And not everyone's voice should be heard. So I don't blame the instrument itself. Twitter is just a medium for people to voice their thoughts and opinions. Its the idiots who get on Twitter and intentionally spread lies is who give it a bad name.

Anthony Wright, former M basketball player. A pretty good follow for his takes on various Michigan athletic issues or topics relating to basketball and football. He stands on his opinion, whether unpopular or not, which often doesn't sit well with people who assume former Michigan athletes should just fall in line.

Dylan Burkhardt (umhoops)

Brice Marich, Steve Lorenz, Sam Webb (247)

Touch The Banner (Magnus on this site)

Evan Petzold, Isaiah Hole (wolverineswire, Petzold also covers CMU since he's a student there)

Adam Ghabour (used to be Rivals. Not sure now but he's very Michigan Football focused)

Scott Bell (Michigan favoring troll)

Endless motor (mattD on this site. Includes general basketball stuff that's not just Michigan related)

This is an excellent list OP.  Pretty much everybody I follow as well.

Oddly enough MgoBlog is NOT a good follow IMO.  Brian rarely (if ever) posts anything other than soccer updates and the occasionally something regarding AA politics.  I'm surprised they arent more aggressive with the medium as you can certainly draw people to your site through content links.

He posts a link to every new MgoBlog post. Not sure what else he can do, he isn't an insider that can post source info. It seems he uses the twits for MGoBlog purposes and to throw out occasional opinions on various topics. I guess he could troll MSU and OSU a little more, that would be fun. But Scott Bell pretty much has a Monopoly on the space in their collective heads.

I've never understood why Brian litters his timeline with that crap. Nobody is following @MGoBlog to get the latest on Ann Arbor zoning or US Soccer. Twitter makes it so simple to toggle between two accounts, just make another one for your political bitching and leave @MGoBlog for Michigan posts and updates.

Like Scott Bell. Has one account for his Dallas newspaper day job stuff that none of us give a shit about, and then his Michigan sports trolling account that none of his Dallas readers give a shit about. Can you imagine if he combined the two? How irritating would that be for both of his completely unrelated groups of followers? Well, that's @MGoBlog.

Since nobody has said it yet,  Chris Balas (@Balas_Wolverine)    - and yes he can be kind of a wanker sometimes in general, but I think he's a must follow if you're a UofM news junkie.
