3 starters entering the portal in one day is not a coincidence, but I'm guessing MSU insiders will continue to play dumb with fans

EDIT: Lol there's currently a Twitter Space of a bunch of MSU Twitter accounts and their copium is at an all time high. Accusing other teams of tampering with Coleman, saying that Thorne transferring is proof that all beat writers were lying about Thorne being starter after the spring, and saying that Brantley wasn't actually a starter (he was). Also that MSU Chief of Propaganda dude is only slightly less delusional than he portrays himself on his account

Going to wait until some of the dust settles on the Transfer Portal musical chairs before laughing at what is going on at MSU right now. My guess is that Tucker must be pursuing some other players in the Portal right now and might have led to some current starters deciding to keep their options open or leave. Coleman may also want Ishbia to open up his wallet to get paid before committing to coming back to MSU. Tucker was one of the first coaches at a Power 5 school to go heavy in the transfer portal for roster management, and I wonder if there is a long-term effect on program culture with that strategy.

Brantley was the starter, but he was not very good. Keon Coleman would be a major loss if he decides to leave. I am neutral on Payton Thorne. On one hand, they are losing a starter with two years experience in their system, but there are several other QB options in the portal that might be able to match his production for MSU. If MSU ends up empty handed with these players leaving though, it could get ugly this year.

Logically, it makes sense to hold off on laughing at Sparty until the full details emerge.

But who cares about logic when we're talking Sparty! They went mosh-pit-helmet-warfare on two of our players after getting "stomped" on the field, and then they blamed the frickin' tunnel.

Indulge yourself. Laugh like you're Henry Hill himself.

disagree.  put the shoe on the other foot and imagine we had the equivalent of JJ, Cojo and will johnson going to the portal this place would rightfully explode.

it's not that they're losing players, its that they are losing their starters in critical positions which is an entirely different beast.

if you're a sparty, you're screaming 'mayday!  mayday!  mayday!' at this point

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm not sure that comparison tracks, just because the programs are in such different places.

A more apt comparison might be:
Imagine how we would have felt leading into 2013 had Gardner, Gallon and Countess decided to transfer after the spring game...

okay, your overall point is still accurate.

or even a few years back with, say, shea, nico and zach.  losing one or even two where there is a position battle that didn't turn out right is very understandable.  losing 3 who were and will be starters is a siren call to 'abandon ship!!'

i'll just say that every time we've been wanting to write off sparty they have been like a vampire that comes back to life because the wooden stake missed their heart.  hopefully we steamroll them next season in EL, but until/unless we're up multiple TD's with not a lot of time left, or unless it looks like a 'mercy rule' score in a pop warner game, i'll try to restrain any thoughts about gloating too much.  not perfectly, mind you, but some.

Kind of a rambling assemblage of contradictory speculations, but one thing you may be very right about: A coach who has already been disloyal to lots of kids with the portal may be shown less when it's time for players to do what's best for them. Even if Thorne remained the starter, he was looking forward to a pretty thankless season.

I don't see a lot of comparison to Deion myself, but what goes around may well come around for the most cavalier coaches.
