Michigan should be ranked #2

And it isn’t close. Here is why:

1) we are the only ranked 1-loss team

2) TCU has a bad loss to UGA, and 2 losses overall

3) TCU is being schooled by a team that barely beat, OSU, that we creamed at the toilet bowl

4) Our one loss was close, with bad calls. And lots of turnovers.

it isn’t close.

They had some bumps along the way, including a crushing finals loss 5 years ago, then didn't even get back to the playoffs for 3 years... despite having one of the most talented teams in the country and a top staff year in and year out.   This shit is hard, way harder than it even was in the BCS era - now you have to beat two top 5 teams after a conference championship game to win a title.

One definite downside of the playoff is that now 3/4 best teams in the country end the season with a loss, when 20 years ago it was probably the opposite with 3/4 ending with a win in bowls.  This inevitably will lead to less fan happiness, and is the price we pay for a "definitive" champion.  Just wait until expansion when 11/12 top teams end the season with a loss - think that is going to make anyone feel better?  You're just being sold the illusion of a better chance to win.  I'll bet any amount of money I have that no seed below a 5 will ever win a 12 team playoff.

Exactly. I don't chase half empty. If your approach is suddenly Natty or bust than what are the percentages for disappointment?

This is why I preferred the bowl and vote imperfect system that mostly arrived in the same place without diluting all tradition as is so popular in this world of cheat codes (formerly known as crib notes). Bowls are neutered now. Rankings still lead us down this path anyway and the Final Four approach is detrimental to a collegiate amateur in health and education (study time, for the archaic).

How does going to an expanded playoff help a student athletes' decision to opt out for health, education or future earnings reasons? I know it selfishly feeds our enjoyment at Jake Butt-esque risk.

You need to come to grips with reality so you aren't miserable your entire life- Michigan may never win another national title

Demographics shifts have made it really hard for a midwestern team to recruit at the level to win a title. OSU is really the only team that has shown the ability to do it. Enjoy the program where it's at because this may be as good as it gets

Funny, I see two Big Ten Championships the past two seasons after SEVENTEEN YEARS without one, and two of the biggest victories in recent memory against our arch rival.

Winning national titles is damn hard, competing for them the past two years after the run we've had has been a high water mark for the program since 1997, but hey you can continue to be completely obtuse and say "we have zero to show for"...

So according to your "reasoning," the last two seasons are the same as the ones in which tOSU blew out UM, and tOSU was the team that won the B1G championship and made it into the CFP.  And--again, according to your "reasoning"--every year, only one team has anything greater than zero to show for its season.  What a sad, miserable person you must be.

No one said bowl games mean nothing

Ummm, no.

There are plenty of posts and comments in this forum over the past couple of weeks... ESPECIALLY where others have commented about JH's bowl record... that have replies of, wait for it, that bowl games mean nothing.

You and anyone negging Cube are either 1, revisionist historians or 2, are exactly what the Cube is referring to.
