Michigan to integrate RPO concepts

I mean, some of those have to be touchdowns, right?
had some of those long gain thingies last year that did not end with TD's.

I think the D.E.N.N.I.S. system would really help this team out.

if the "jam it in" play doesn't work.
I had to log in for your comment. LoLzz....I want the touchdown play to be included as well.
Start an online petition and I'll sign it.

Nice touch, strong finish :-)
If you can't block inside zone correctly, none of this even matters.
blocking schemes are effective on the touchdown play. Gap, zone, pass pro, etc.
I would like to see them tone down the motion and play faster.

Must suck to be you.

but I love them anyway. From what I've read Harbaugh adheres to the rules, tries to honestly expand his players horizons, and has done alot on the football field to help us raise the bar and set us up for the future. One injury plagued winning season doesn't make me value him less.

I don't think anybody was worried last year if Speight or Peters took off with the ball. O'Korn may have been our most mobile QB and we couldn't run him much due to the lack of QB depth.
March 20th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
No. You're optioning the linebacker or safety between playing the run and maintaing his zone for the slant/in/seam/etc. Defender crashes the run, you pull and throw the slant behind him. Has nothing to do with the QB's running ability.
Now, you could add a QB run option to an RPO (really adding an RPO to the end of a read option or another type of option). We ran some of these under RichRod. However, the basic RPO concepts do not involve the QB running.

Sorry if I'm putting my web dev hat on, but that's what it sounds like.
I guess I was hoping for the QB run option to be added to slow the defense and make them think for an extra split second.

depending on what the QB sees when they line up for the play.

Forgive me for maybe a stupid question, but then are these RPO's primarily out of the shotgun? It'd be pretty tough to ask the QB to be under center and move backwards for the handoff while at the same time keeping his head looking downfield at a defender, no?
March 21st, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Or pistol, but yes. You can still run gap schemes from any snap depth, however. Going into the shotgun doesn't mean you can't run power or traps, you can still run both gap and zone schemes with RPOs from the shotgun.

As lundberg said, it's mostly post-snap. The only read pre-snap for the QB (generally) is which LB he is optioning based on the formation. Then post-snap he reads whether the LB pursues run or maintains his pre-snap zone. If the LB crashes, you throw behind him. If the LB doesn't move or drops back, you hand off.

Shea and Dillon can run.

Was with some State fans recently and they were saying "he's gonna wear out his welcome soon, he's just such an asshole". I was very happy to tell them "No, we want better results than last year but overall everybody loves the guy as the head man of the program and as a representative of the university." Just another Sparty bubble bursting. Lots of those of late.

just fine.

im sure they will try to retool and expand their RPO game - and thats great (as long as they have an identity, im all for whatever).
more importantly though harbaugh has mentioned the need to get the ball to DPJ, evans, etc in favorable positions and take advantage of his athletes
It's shocking. It's like he has more information than us and has to make decisions based on all the data rather than game day snippets.
It's amazing he made three NFC title games and one Super Bowl without knowing to get the ball to his playmakers! NOW everything will be so much better!
That is, a Really Pathetic Offense.
It should read "Michigan to integrate REO concepts." As in REO Speedwagon.
The plan is to take it on the run.
But even if there's no gain, Harbaugh is gonna keep on lovin' you.
He just can't fight this feeling anymore.
Holy crap, this is so underrated.
When Patterson becomes eligible, Harbaugh will be able to roll with the changes. Until then, he's just riding the storm out.
Nice! Out of the blue, totally random, and completely relevent. Well played!!!
Someone was listening to REO's greatest hits recently...
