Michigan football in midst of longest conference title drought since 64

Submitted by michfanisbacka… on
Michigan has not won a conference title since 04. The last time U of M went a longer period without a conference title in football was when the wolverines won it in 1950 and did not again until 1964.I have a feeling this will be the longest drought in the next 50 years and that it will end soon.

I predicted 9-3 before the year. Next year Ohio State and MSU finally lose significant talent. We have Harbaugh and our fans should sack up too instead of acting like we're some also ran program. Do you realize that Alabama sucked from 2001 to 2007?

They lose talent, but they reload. Stop pretending like they're going to take a significant step back.

We've thought MSU would slide off every year for the past 4-5 years, and they've gotten stronger every year. And OSU will load in 5 star talent every single year that Meyer is in charge.

not a damn thing we can do about what's in the past.  What is the point of dwelling, complaining and crying about it?

We are now on the right path.  My God, Harbaugh only has one year under his belt.  I would not have thought we would go 9-3.  I am happy about that, a big jump from 5-7.  Recruiting class looks great.  We have a lot to be thankful for.

Seems about the same size jump as 7-6 to 11-2. And, of course, if you get to 10-3 it is a bigger turnaround. Now, track record wise, I freely admit Harbaugh is better than Hoke, and I have said here before I expect him to do better. But from a strictly W-L record, no real difference from 2011 in terms of improvement from the previous season.

titles after the next couple of years. It still possible in 2016 and 2017 but it will take time for Harbaugh picked kids begin to infuse the ranks of the team. After 2017 we should always be eastern conference competitive winning B1G titles and making the playoffs.  I think after this season the Playoffs will be expanded to 8 after the PAC gets left out!

I hope Harbaugh remembers Ohio passing the ball late in the 4th. I hope Harbaugh remembers Mark Dantonio saying, "Where'd all the Wolverines go" after their last second miracle.

I want Harbaugh to beat osu like he beat usc in the classic, "what's your deal" game. I want Dantonio to realize he's fucked.

If my math is correct, the really crazy part is that we won 10 B1G titles in the previous 20 years.  What a change of fortune.  No wonder Michigan fans are frustrated.  Thank goodness for Harbaugh.

for 20 years between 1990 and 2010, OSU's longest (post-war) stretch was 7 years, 15 years between 1920 and 1935.

We better win one soon though..

Regarding the guy who still complained about RR yelling at his players, who gives a f***? That had and has little to do with his success as a coach. Pretty much everyone who's ever played sports has been yelled at by coaches at one point or other.

I know the schedule is daunting, but we have a legit shot next year with a stout defensive line and secondary. OSU looses Elliot, Bosa, Washington, Decker, and probably some other juniors.  MSU looses Cook and a number of o-lineman including Conklin.  If we can get some plays from the QB postion and the o-line has a moderate improvement we will have a legit shot next year.  However, I think 2017 will be a rebuilding year as we lose most of our offensive and defensive lines likely including Lewis, Butt, and Peppers after next year.  Then in 2018 you'd think we'd be decent as it would be Harbaugh's first set of recruits becoming juniors. So, I think it's either next year or if not, it won't be until 2018 or 2019.  But, so much can happen between now and then.

We were a miracle away from playing for the title this year. Next year we have a solid chance to win it, after that Harbaugh will be rolling with solid talent all around and great QBs.
