Submitted by Indonacious on

Michigan will finish at #5 in the 2017 247 Sports Composite rankings, behind #1 Alabama, #2 OSU, #3 Georgia, and #4 USC.

Maybe it should be its own thread.....but Chris Partridge appreciation. Listed as the #1 recruiter in the country and primary recruiter of Solomon, Anthony, Vilain, Martin, St. Juste, Ruiz, Singleton, and Hawkins. Also helped on a number of other guys.

Gdang man. Thanks for joining the coaching staff.

The future success of Michigan football will hinge on developing an elite offensive line. We are loaded on defense (maybe small question mark at safety for now) and stacked at RB, WR, TE, and Jim mf Harbaugh coaching qbs. Once our o line makes the jump, we will be legit playoff and national title contenders.

I'm convinced ESPN has anti-Michigan bias.

Just look at their rankings for DPJ and Solomon. Absurd when you compare them to the other 3 sites.

Because nobody is allowed to have a different opinion. Although I will grand how impressive it is for ESPN to be able to predict Solomon's destination and downgrade his ranking accordingly, before he had even made up his mind on where to go.

We have 7 more 4 stars than USC and our top 25 have a higher average according to my calculations (0.9244).  You should only compare average rankings for the same class size so the lower rated guys in a large class don't drag it down.

Yeah, as much as I love the 247 composite ranking, I think its major flaw is the overemphasis on the number of lower-ranked recruits bringing down the overall score.

I mean, we only got one of the best - if not the best - punters in the entire country, but just because they're never ranked high to begin with our class ranking got dinged.  There's no question to me that our class in all aspects - numbers, stars/talent, depth - is superior to that of USC's (good case could be made in comparison to Georgia's too)

Class down to 6th on ESPN?! Think there is some bias there. Still, the time for excuses is done. Michigan needs to beat OSU this season. I am sure Harbaugh doesn't want to join RR at 0-3.

The classes I'm impressed by, ignoring the obvious star-gazing at Bama and OSU, I think these teams did a great job down the stretch:

USC
UCLA
Maryland
Stanford

The teams I'm not impressed by:

SEC minus Bama/LSU/Georgia
Texas
Notre Dame
Michigan State

Having been on campus there a few times I have to admit it's a nice campus --- not as nice as ours, though, nor UCLA's.

That being said, once you immediately step outside the gates of USC the surrounding area is rundown and unsafe...  It's a very interesting contrast separated by just a few yards

OSU 21 recruits  Average 94.47    310.97

Alabama top 21 Average 96.32 (check my math)      318.02

So it turns out OSU's class wasn't that epic and they can't argue it would be #1 if it was larger.

Next yr we need a 92-93 average since it's going to be a tiny class. Assuming 6 attrition we are talking 2015 class size tiny. Have to be very specific and get some positions of need to space out positions. More DT more TE one FSU like RB ...Could skip WRs altogether for a yr or just go get 1.

If Stanford can get Foster Sarrell and Walker Little then I see no reason why Harbaugh cant get 2 5* Olineman next year. Especially considering Greg Frey, Pep, partridge, and harbaugh will be able to focus on a lot smaller amount of targets.

They will be able to make an epic smaller class next year after all the expierence they gained this year

Rating system is kind of goofy when you drop a spot because you signed a highly rated punter. In two years Harbaugh has established pipelines in new territories that Michigan doesn't usually recruit in. Michigan has guys they wanted at every position group. It's about identifying talent and developing it and Harbaugh and his staff can do it. - Two years in a row they get accurate passers who can also move the pocket. - They decide they will open up the offense, get a highly rated coordinator and an amazing class of recovers - Get shifty running backs who'll do a lot of damage in a spread offense - Plenty of offensive lineman to develop including 4 highly rated guys in 2 years. Major upgrade to the interior over the past two years. - Athletic linebackers for Don Browns scheme (far more athletic than what they've had outside of Peppers) - A big, physical secondary - Amazing group of defensive lineman over 2 years - Highly rated kicker each of past two years Michigan won a lot of recruiting battles against top schools. They've begun to stack. They'll be in National Championship conversations starting in 2018 and it won't let up as long as Harbaugh stays.
