Michigan falls to 8th in both the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll

Coaches Poll: http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/football/polls/coaches-poll/

Michigan was jumped by Oklahoma State.  Penn State moved past USC to 4th, Ohio State stayed at 9th, and Wisconsin moved up two spots to 10th.  Maryland is the next highest ranked Big Ten team at 29th.  And for those who are wondering Purdue received no votes.

AP Poll: http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll

Michigan was passed by Oklahoma State in the AP Poll too.  Penn State jumped USC to move to 4th, and Wisconsin jumped Ohio State to move to 9th.  The Buckeyes fell two spots to 10th.  Maryland is at 28th, and as with the Coaches Poll Purdue has no votes.

It's a fair ranking for us in both polls. I know some of you talk about how we don't look like a top ten team, but Michigan is a top brand name in college football.

Therefore, some voters will give us the benefit of the doubt respect even after a poorly played game by us.

The voters could've rightfully moved Oklahoma State ahead of us last week. They gave us another week to look more impressive, but we couldn't do it, and OK State was deservedly moved up.

We barely got the nod over Wisconsin this week. Though if we struggle against Purdue and the Badgers win easily. They'll even pass us in the next poll rankings.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few teams jumped us and we fell down to #11 if the voters watch us struggle for three straight weeks.

based on what?  Wins over Tulsa, S Alabama and Pitt?  NO..not rightfully so..its based upon one lopsided game against a so so Piutt team..Its not like they just beat  Clemson or anything ...Im a SOOOOO sick of these team with weak schedules getting credit for blowout wins over NOBODY...Washington last year

Michigan's ranking will mean something after Penn State game on Oct 21st.

Polls are generally just fancy conversation pieces until then.

....not that there's anything wrong with that.

One spot. This doesn't mean shit. Nothing matters other than winning each week. It's a rating full of noise early in the season and, more importantly, has no predictive value and portends of nothing.

Three playoff spots look a little bit locked down. That fourth spot seems like it's up for grabs between the PAC 10 and Big 10 champ. Sure things can change, but Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma are bona fide now and won't see tougher teams than they've already beat (except for okie state, who would then just take OU's place).

So, Michigan, Penn State, OSU, USC, Stanford and UW all kind of feel like they're scrapping for a single spot. I'm just bringing this up, because it's probably a subliminal reason for all the current hand wringing about the offense.

How OK St with wins over Tulsa , South Alabama and Pitt can jump Michigan because of one blowout win against a so so team is beyond me.  Meanwhile Michigan opens with a neutral site win against a top 25 team and other wins against Cincy and Air Force which have been quality  opponents . So we could easily be ranked higher if we played a bunch of nobodies so the teams that play nobodies do get rewarded...case in point OK ST
