Michigan drop to #4 in AP Poll
Link to Poll
Other notable teams:
- #3 Illinois
- #5 Iowa
- #9 Ohio State
- #20 Purdue
- Wisconsin and MSU getting some votes
Figures we would drop to #4 with Illinois going on a run in the past few games and Michigan having a tough go vs Illinois and MSU. Now just gotta stay healthy, get rest, and get focused for this final stretch
If Illinois wins the tourney then Michigan will drop to the #2 seed. The showing in EL yesterday was not good for this team on many levels
no.
Illinois is already number 1. Them winning has nothing to do with us.
Which team would take the 4th spot in that scenario? Alabama? I think if M makes the final and loses to Ill they’ll both be 1 seeds.
Michigan is the champion of the toughest conference in the country and has only 3 losses. We are not in danger of dropping a seed line. There is a huge gap between the top four teams and the rest.
If a Brooks-less Michigan gets knocked out in the first or second round game in the BIG and looks bad in doing so while Houston cruises to its conference tourney title in impressive fashion, are we really still a lock for a #1 seed?
Don't the seedings get set before the conference tourneys are over?
You know, you don't have to follow Michigan basketball if it makes you as unhappy as it apparently does.
If Michigan loses to Illinois in the BTT there would be no reason for UM to drop from the 1-line because of it.
I haven't been on the blog very much over the last year because...well, life, and all.
But this is one of the main reasons why. People losing their ever damn minds over stupid shit and feeling the need to unburden themselves by posting it.
Don’t read too much into a few downvotes and people telling someone else they are wrong. No one is losing their mind over a dumb comment.
Scfanblue, No offense, but your posts usually suck.
Dude, don't hold back. Let it out. It becomes unhealthy after a while of holding that stuff in.
Harsh, but accurate
Sounds about right.
Winning against Illinois or winning the whole tourney will give them the #1 seed.
Both Michigan and Illinois are going to be 1 seeds. That's not in question. Take a look at the records of the teams behind us.
They're right you know.
If we end up in the championship game of the B1G we should still hold our 1 seed. Iowa would be at 8 losses and I don’t think anybody below them would jump us.
I am shocked that Iowa is still as high as #5 given some of their crappy losses.
Who else are you going to rank there? They are pretty much there by default.
But it doesn't mean that they are on the verge of a #1 seed.
Eh, fair point, I didn't realize WV had 8 losses. I'd probably put Alabama ahead of Iowa if the SEC didn't suck balls.
I think people are overrating Alabama a bit. They have lost 3 of their last 4 games against KenPom top-50 teams, and the SEC isn't a good conference at all right now.
Houston feels like the most likely team to make a run outside of that top-4 but they're best win is Texas Tech from last year and have some bad losses on their resume. But that's a team with a higher ceiling, to me, than a team like Iowa or Alabama.
I'm so proud of this team.
Nobody expected us to be as good as we were this year. We won an outright B1G title. None of us expected that.
Everything from here on out is just gravy. I want us to go all the way, but if Eli is hurt or Franz is hurt, I'll be excited to watch some of the young guys get a little bit of run in a big game situation.
Agreed, but legit shots to win it all are hard to come by. We’ve seen this team and when they play up to their capabilities, I believe they are the best team in the country.
I agree that the season is a success regardless of how it ends, but if they fall short of the title, it will be hard to look back and not say “what if”.
Feels about right. Iowa at #5 sort of shows the gap between the top 4 teams in the country and everyone else; they're a good team but you can absolutely see how both UM and Illinois are better than them.
Gap? Gun to head, right now, if Michigan and Iowa played tonight - I'd probably go with Iowa.
Our team has completely forgot how to run the offense over the course of less than 2 weeks.
We need this ship back on course, or else we are all going to be sorely disappointed.
And they apparently also forgot how to run their offense immediately after that game.
The only thing that could potentially drop us to the 2 seed is for Brooks and/or Franz being out for more than the opening round. The committee might factor that in there. Other than that, we are gonna be a one seed.
Yeah. Not surprising.
Lose two games and only go down two spots? I'm good with that.
meh, not totally unexpected, but the reality is I think Michigan is locked into a #1 seed...
the question is who is the 4th #1 seed if not Michigan? I doubt that Iowa gets there unless they have a dominant B1G tournament and Michigan loses its first game.
Easy solution is for the team to play better - it controls its own destiny from this point out.
We need to play on Sunday or we will be Mad/sad
doesn't mean spit.
Not really related to the performance of the Big Ten and Michigan as noted by the OP, but did anyone else watch Duke-UNC a few days ago? Did anyone find it odd that this was game played to bolster otherwise thin Tournament resumes, not as a perennial "Who wins the ACC?" game as it traditionally seems to be?
Wouldn’t this have minimal impact on UM really? If we don’t win the BTT, we’ll either be the lowest #1 seed or highest #2 seed depending how things shake out? So we’d either get the best #2 seed or the worst #1 seed in our bracket? Maybe that’s not how it goes...
Edit: sorry this was meant as a response to Scfan...
The media & having so many "rivals" -- only works against Michigan.
Michigan has NEVER "been voted" into a position of winning / victory / advantage.
I will not expect to be a #1 seed.
Go Blue.
How great is it for this team to win the B1G outright and hold #4 ranking despite a tough week? How great is it to ponder if UM is a 1 or 2 seed? How great is it to enjoy this season and know UM has the #1 class arriving in a few months?
We’re playing with house money and have a decent shot to win it all. Go Blue.
