he's a fucking idiot with no clue.  irvin improved his game big time.  he was injured early.  and the offense was never supposed to run through him.  the caris and spike injuries forced that card.  and i give the guy a lot of credit for improving his game.  that said, he took a few terrible early clock shots that left me shaking my head.  if we had depth, i'm sure JB would have pulled him and lit him up.  however, we don't have depth so he had to go with him.

this team will be better next year.  book it.

Improving his game?  His percentages were worse this year across the board from his freshman year.  But yeah, I'm the one with no clue.  Lol.

Tell us more about how our offense was never supposed to run through our only 5-star starter.

Why are you comparing freshman Irvin, who didn't start and had NBA talent at every position, to junior Irvin, who was coming back from back surgery, was our number one option, and was playing alongside 1 junior and an entire team of freshmen and sophomores? You don't know much about basketball

Lol when you're trying to justify why a junior 5 star player is performing worse than his freshman year, you've lost the argument.  The poster said he improved this year.  Based on any metric, that is false.

Based on any metric....other than points per game, rebounds per game, and assists per game, which he averaged more of his junior year than he did his freshman year. If you are only going to look at shooting percentage with no context, I will look at his averages with no context. He has improved greatly when we look at it that way. Thanks!

Has regressed. You try to rationalize everything. Dude can't shoot and his shooting form is so screwed up it looks like a 4th grader trying shoot from long range. He would be serviceable though, if he would accept his role for what it needs to be. But he wants to be a creator and he is not capable of it. No handle and no finishing ability at the rim. I have never watched a guy get blocked 80% of the time and still continue to think he can finish.

It was a bad season...but without Spike and LeVert, I think making the tourney makes up for that. I think we're a legit 4-5 seed with a healthy LeVert

The biggest thing with this team is their inability to score when they can hit their shots. Outside of MAAR, they couldn't generate easy buckets which means if their outside shots weren't falling, they went on these prolonged scoring droughts that killed them. And, they don't get to the line.

That's how you end up with 41 points in the first half and 22 in the second half.

Donnal and Irvin were a special brand of awful tonight.

And, yes, that charge call was complete horseshit and completely changed the game.

I'm not on board with the Beilein is an offensive mastermind stuff. Every year it's the same thing, a soft jump shooting team that doesn't have any post up scoring. I'm starting to believe that he just doesn't feel post up play is a necessity, just make enough three point shots. Even if your big men aren't good post players, you can actually teach some of your smaller guys between 6'6 and 6'8 how to do post up work. You do not have to be a center to post people up in the paint. We hardly ever see any player with his hand up in the paint and asking for the ball in Beilein's offense. How can that be considered a great offensive scheme? Maybe it's Coach B's fault that our big men are always so bad. Since post up play isn't a focal point of Coach B's offense. He probably doesn't teach post up play or develop it in his players very well.

I missed the sarcasm. The Dakich thing is a real issue because coach is putting his team at a considerable disadvantage unnecessarily. What's going on there, does he feel obligated or what? It's indefensible.

Sadly, it's not sarcasm. Somehow he really thinks a walk on who is so bad that he only plays a couple minutes a game on a team that has one point guard; will take us to a BiG title.

Most of those statistics came from when he's had great shooters who can shoot lights out, like Nik and Trey. Coach B's offense relies heavily on great perimeter shooting, because the points aren't coming from many other places. Great shooters can make almost any offensive scheme look awesome with good statistics.

I'm ready to stop playing like a mid-major. We're a power 5 team with money to spend on assistants and recruiting resources. Find some big guys that can play, or find some athletic tall guys who can't play, and find a assistant coach who can teach them to play before they graduate.

Nah. Go for Gregg Marshall.

His Wichita St. teams play defense and offense and get this... they play with toughness. They would steamroll Beilein's team. Imagine Marshall with hotshot recruits.

I know it's a foreign concept to Michigan fans that being good in both phases of the game is possible in this day n age.

this team has plenty of role players, but lacks stars. I think Caris as a star and spike as a glue guy could have made this team very good. oh well, on to next year...

ThadMattasagoblin

Next year there will be no excuses. Either we're good or we're not. No Caris being out, no sleep apnea, etc. Does anyone seriously think that if these things didn't happen we'd be a final four team? We have 10 players who are healthy who don't contribute much and one NBA guy who got hurt.

Ghost of Hoke

March 19th, 2016 at 1:15 AM ^

Why is that crap? Next year could be our best team for awhile and it's taken 3 years to build. Why the fuck shouldn't Michigan compete for Final Fours every 3 years?

Troll? Your username is BigBlue? Which is literally the stupidest fucking username since that's Kentucky not Michigan. Nothing screams troll or fake fan to me more than a "fan" who calls us Big Blue.

Especially someone saying we have to make the final four with no excuses....about 6 hours after one of the better coaches in the nation took a 2 seed and lost to a 15 seed. Anyone saying we have to do X in a single elimination tournament is either stupid or a troll

Ghost of Hoke

Im not saying next years team will make the final four. What I'm saying is Michigan should be able to compete at that level every 3-4 years. If it doesn't happen next year, with Walton and Irvin as seniors it's not going to happen for Coach Beilein.

I agree that this team and next years team is no where near Final Four caliber. But next years team will most likely be Coach Beileins best shot at making a run again before he retires. What I'm saying is it shouldn't be impossible or unreasonable for Michigan to compete for long tournament runs every 3-4 years.
