I am 43 years young... Have had a CPL for years several renewals. The biggest thing I take out of this entire thing is the difference form a traffic stop of myself a white male and that of a traffic stop of a 21 year old black male. Its striking. I would even claim my CPL has gotten me out of speeding tickets I probably deserved. The first thing I always say is my name is..... I have a CPL and I am either carrying and my gun is.... Or I am not carrying. This has happened minimum of 5 times and probably more as I come into contact with CO's quite frequently. I have never not even one time been asked to see the gun or how many rounds of ammo I am carrying etc. Typically all they ask is please keep your hands on the steering wheel where I can see them and we will be right back. Of course my hands are always there whether carrying or not.  When they get back it almost always goes since you were so forthcoming about the CPL and gun we are giving you a warning have a good day! I do realize Mazi was missing the CPL but what a difference.... Sad...

I don't doubt the accuracy of this particular police report, but media outlets should know better than to use the words "records show" when it's more accurate to say "a police officer wrote."

I had a pretty scorching take last week for the AD not acting on this.  I'll correct that with this detail - there's nothing to act on.  The speeding is bad, no reason to drive 50 in a 25, especially in a residential area on a school day.  He was right to be pulled over.

The gun charges?  Complete bullshit.  The weapon wasn't concealed, so no need for a CCP.  You're allowed to carry ammunition - there is no limit for how much you can carry, either.  He was arrested for "probable cause"?  Probable cause for what?  Doesn't there have to be some reason, or can we just say 'he might do something'?  Because he's a black man?  He wasn't angry, argumentative, high, drunk, or screaming around at 2:30AM - WTF does "probable cause" actually mean?

I will that there are better ways to carry a gun and ammo in a car.  Yes, even going to a range!  Keep it in the case, and already have it in the way back.  But this whole arrest is bullshit.

The gun charge is likely unconstitutional and he is innocent until proven guilty.  Because this is a legal issue that doesn't involve any harm to another person the university should let it be handled by the legal system IMHO.

Driving 50 in a 25 is not great but it's speeding.  In my neighborhood a neighbors son was doing 60 in a 25 and they gave him a warning.

More bothered by the speeding than by the gun, in terms of danger to those around him, but carrying it loaded is dumb, unless you really are carrying.

Folks saying he may have been headed to/from a practice session, but bringing a loaded gun onto a shooting range is generally a big no no (this is not an oxymoron - safety rules at ranges are usually strict about ammo and gun not meeting until you’re at a bench and pointed down range). I guess that doesn’t apply if he’s just going plinking in the woods somewhere.

"No Consequences" from a team/playing perspective is becoming increasing indefensible. 50 in a 25 is flat dangerous. In a residential neighborhood it's enormously irresponsible. And sorry if I missed it, but I see a lot of talk about "going to a gun range" making the ammunition quantity justifiable, but I don't see anything about that in the article.

We had a saying during my youth: "Never break more than one law at a time".

If you are going to drive double the speed limit, make sure you are clean everywhere else, you know?

He got arrested at 930am. Team flight left for Indiana at 3pm. He didn't have a driver's license on him. And you need a drivers license to go to a gun range. So doubtful he was going there.

It really is amazing how quickly many fans will dismiss fact-based reporting that skews negative when it's about one of their own players; if this were about an MSU or OSU player, most of these same critics would be splashing it everywhere.

And the just general assumption that he was "going to gun range?" There is zero evidence this is true. He had an unlicensed Glock and 30 bullets in his pocket.

Note: If MLive added something to the top of an article, it isn't "sneaky."

All I read here is a kid speeding through a residential neighborhood (absent a medical emergency, don't do that), and carrying loaded (edit: unloaded, reportedly) without a permit in a state where a permit is required, with a relatively small amount of rounds if, especially if, he's on his way to/from a shooting club/range.

Work it out with the judge, get your CC papers, then know and obey the local regs wherever and whenever you carry going forward and *get us to 15-0*. That should suffice.

Note to Mazi. Don't repeat the above mistakes. If you do need to repeat a mistake, try the oddly amusing hammer to balls mistake, as that isn't a felony in any jurisdiction. 👍😉👍

(Edit: I was originally wrong in my original post, it was unloaded).

As some others have said, that's really not a lot of ammo.  I am a CPL holder with 2 legal pistols, and within about 10 feet of me right now, I have that much ammo loaded into magazines and ready to go (Only after executing a practiced plan to get to the actual pistols which are locked up).  I'm not really trying to defend my family if I have less than about 40-50 rounds ready to go.  I've considered that number and thought that all hell will have broken loose if I ever had to pull off that many shots to defend the castle.  On the other hand, no way in hell I'm going to get caught running out after 13 shots or so.
