Michael Johnson to take Oregon WR job per Sam Webb

Is losing Michael Johnson worth Finebaum looking even more like an idiot now?
February 17th, 2017 at 9:01 AM ^
YES. Yes it is.

But there was a Hello post. :(
February 17th, 2017 at 9:03 AM ^
I wonder if Harbaugh set up this whole deal as one big troll job on the SEC, NCAA and Finebaum to show all their hypocrisy?
February 17th, 2017 at 9:07 AM ^
Are you asking us if you wonder that? If so, I don't know the answer.
That said, Pete himself said that Jim is a genius, so it would not surprise me if Jim did this on purpose.

I don't believe that.

I believe you.

Doubtful. They probably discussed that he'd take the new coaching job at UM if they agreed upon adding that 10th one. They pushed that (voting) to next year so Johnson went with his plan B. He was over qualified to be an analyst. Maybe they'll revisit next year.
I doubt JH is worried about making Pete look dumb. He's does a pretty good job of that himself.
February 17th, 2017 at 9:53 AM ^
When did pushing that vote to next year happen?
February 17th, 2017 at 11:10 AM ^
Seriously, that's got to have some pretty big ramifications. Lots (most?) big schools were already snapping up guys and giving them analyst positions in anticipation of the rule change, like we did with Johnson. It's gotta be like jobs musical chairs out there right now.

Just read about it. It does make some sense to add the assistant coach on the first day of the official off-season rather than in mid-april. Some of the reasons given include easier budgeting and a better place in the coach hiring cycle. However, it's sort of b.s. that this change is being considered right now, when at least some schools were making hires based on that expected additional assistant coaching position.
February 17th, 2017 at 11:44 AM ^
Oh - Harbaugh is going to hire a QBs dad as a 10th position coach - well we better block that.
/s but not really
February 17th, 2017 at 11:50 AM ^
The vote is still happening in April.
Originally it was supposed to be immediate if the vote passed. They are thinking of pushing it back to Jan 2018 so it wont cause unnecessary strain on a school's budget.

It's likely the water carrier will think he caused Michigan to back off because he exposed them since he is a egotistical little prick.

No. The son will still be coming to Michigan.

He loves Harbaugh, period.
Let's take this from naother angle. We got a lot of publicity in SEC region. The more idiot he looks, the better it will help our publicity and recruiting. haha. Keep going, please.

Sounds about right. Assuming Speight holds down the job as starter, he'll be the guy in 2017 and 2018 and a RS Junior and RS Senior. Then most likely Peters as a RS Junior and RS Senior in 2019 and 2020. It's weird but we may not see McCaffery until 2021 and only for one year.
February 17th, 2017 at 9:58 AM ^
These things work themselves out. I would put the chances of McCafferey only starting the 2021 very low. If he does not beat out Peters or Speight at any time in his career I would assume he will transfer, which would be entirely understandable. If you're going to recruit a good QB every year some are not going to pan out (at least with your program).

yes, but the hope is that whoever he is speaking to responds "how is it any different for oregon? don't your criticisms of harbaugh apply equally to orgeon?"
February 17th, 2017 at 10:37 AM ^
Sadly, most sports media conversations don't go that deep anymore.
It's simply about picking a point and then arguing it louder and louder in the vain effort to try to win some one-upsmanship battle that no one will even remeber 30 seconds later.
February 17th, 2017 at 12:01 PM ^
It's totally different. Harbaugh hired the dad of a prospect. Oregon hired an analyst from a P5 school and promoted him to an onfield position. Not the same.

I think you got auto-corrected there, pardner - It's Pete now

Sam Webb is hinting that the push to add the 10th coaching position this year might not happen til 2018, and that might have limited his opportunity at Michigan, versus being an onfield WR coach for Oregon.

...Or Jim told Taggert to hire Johnson so he could get the heat off him
February 17th, 2017 at 9:44 AM ^
What heat?
February 17th, 2017 at 9:46 AM ^
Finebaum thinks he's applying heat to Jim. Little does he know he's just embarassing himself.
February 17th, 2017 at 9:51 AM ^
You really think JH cares about heat on him? He puts some on himself. That shit's fun to him lol
February 17th, 2017 at 10:04 AM ^
that was in response to how Finebaum is going to spin it today.
