Miami Herald: Sources say Devin Bush Sr to join Michigan

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

A move that we have all been expecting for a while, there hadn't been much said about the current status until now. This from the Miami Herald:

Multiple sources have told the Miami Herald on Tuesday that Flanagan coach Devin Bush is on the verge of joining the staff at Michigan where three of his Falcons -- son and linebacker Devin Bush Jr. and safeties Devin Gil and Josh Metellus -- have signed. Bush Jr. has already enrolled at Michigan for the spring semester.

Another interesting tidbit:

One source said an announcement is expected sometime next week. Both sources said defensive coordinator Stanford Samuels would become Flanagan's next head coach.

It's only shady if you hire a guy to a nebulous position like 'film analyst' like MSU did with Gholston's guardian. When you hire someone who knows the landscape of one of the most important recruiting landscapes like the back of his hand to do one of the most important jobs in modern college football? I call that hiring the most qualified person to the position.

Agreed, we'd be complaining if one of our targets went to another school and then their mom or coach was hired there.  However, since Michigan is doing it we'll defend it as completely on the up and up no matter appearances.

Mostly remember this happening in basketball:

Danny Manning's dad hired by Larry Brown at Kansas

or if you think of just High School coaches being hired to college that had ties to players, Michigan hired Perry Watson, Jalen Rose's coach.

But in a normal business this type of scenario is why people are asked to sign non-compete agreements. the only difference is we don't want to think of recruits as products. all of that aside, if you need to hire someone to develop relationships with teenagers and their parents, wouldn't you want to consider hiring someone that is doing exactly that job right now? the only difference between Bush and someone currently at a university is scale.

Is Partridge shady. Everybody said we hired him to get Gary but we ended up getting Mitchell, Hawkins, Johnson, Walker etc. Maybe he's hired partially to get Samuels but as a hs coach he knows the lay of the land in Florida recruiting.

Hairball at it again!!! Cheating to bring a player's dad to scUM!!!!!!

In all seriousness this is great. It is awesome to have guys with familiarities in states with lots of talent at our program.

It isn't like we have brought anybody in who isn't qualified. Bush just won a state title at the top division in one of the big 3 football states, obviously is familiar with that territory and the teams/players there, and has pro football experience. Gwen Bush (Wayne Lyons mother) has had nothing but positive things said about her by everyone associated with her or the team. Partridge (while not a relative, but has ties to a top school) was such a success in his role as recruiting coordinator that it parlayed into the linebackers coach spot and an award for recruiter of the year. Point is, related or not, Michigan is bringing in qualified candidates. And it's working.

RCMB is on fire right now.

-Harbaugh is the dirtiest coach in America

-He's publicly violating dozens of NCAA violations

-Partridge is our Bag-Man, undeserving of his new $700,000 contract

-They agree with the SEC nuts on Harbaugh being in clear violation of holding practices and camps in SEC territory

My favorite, from NSD day:

-Here at MSU, we prefer quiet, get your fax in early, signing days. We don't need to worry about undecided players on NSD. We don't want, or need, any of these players left on NSD anyways.

I don't see how anyone honestly has a problem with this.  Devin Bush is super qualified for the position.

Harbaugh is a winner, and he will utilize every competitive advantage (within the rules) that he possibly can.  As long as Michigan isn't outright cheating or paying recruits, then by all means use every possible advantage you can.  This is brilliant.
