when people act like this is a news channel and try to "break something" on the board by posting a thread with just the title and nothing else, then coming in the thread and editing it after it's up just so you can be the first one to post it.
fyi, OP votes do not count.

that may be the most egregious missed call i've ever seen
Inside-the-park home run today for the Tigers sure was exciting, wasn't it?
(p.s.: I have a pet peeve about MGoBloggers who post things in the wrong thread)

Let's leave the basic spelling/grammatical errors to other fanbases, shall we?

It's not true all the time, but a good rule of thumb is RAVEN. I.e., Remember, Affect = Verb, Effect = Noun.
One user (evenyoubrutus?) used to use something to that effect as his signature. Later he removed it, likely due to it being a bit affected.
Exceptions include the following correct uses of affect as a noun and effect as a verb: "we revised the rules to effect change" and "his schizophrenia medicine resulted in him presenting with a flat affect". That said, as a general rule RAVEN will serve you well.
This is a great list, but a good chunk of these are common usage errors rather than common spelling errors. Which is, in its way, all-the-more awesome!

get worked up about grammar and spelling but are oblivious to profanity. The comment sections are not a scholarly peer reviewed platform. It's a fun low key place to express opinions about sports. These comments arent a reflection of the education you received at Michigan or wherever.
I have an issue with people who have an issue with profanity when their definition is limited to so called "swear" words, which can only be based on social conditioning rather than reason, and when they'd be the first to want to silence, dismiss or mock, objections to real profanity that's larger than mere words, even the seven dirty words.
haha. Are you a lawyer?!
I think that "what?" was for me, west. The guy compared writing mistakes to profanity as if it's hypocritical to complain about mistakes if you don't mind swearing. I find that absurd. I can't see any rational reason for being offended by swearing on Mgoblog. At least there is some rationale behind being annoyed by writing mistakes, whether some go too far with it or not aside.
Furthermore I find that considering expressive language profane, is itself profane in the face of not considering various facets of our society, system, business structure & government profane.
In other words, fuck outrage over "dirty" words while at the same time people don't care about or speak out about infinitely larger dirty deeds (& words/attitudes) done very expensively against masses of people.
If we want to feel superior to other fanbases, the comment sections here have a lot more work to do than grammar and spelling.
