I appreciate that JH makes the team better with transfers. It's a useful tool. He's 2 for 3 with QBs. Rudock and Shea were better than the roster. JOK was not. Unfortunately, he had to rely on Rudock. Shea is a different matter and would be #1 on many teams. Given the current QB room I don't see it happening in the near future, but if it's ever necessary JH should keep doing it.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
Just imagine if we were 3 or 4 guys deep in the QB room when JH got here, we probably wouldn't have needed grad transfer QB's.
Just glad to see that we are finally building depth at that position.

McCaffrey has the intangibles that players will follow him... he better not transfer...
Peters started too early, and for that reason many here are sour on him..... had he been sitting on bench the entire time and only played now, he'd be viewed in a much different light... if anyone were to go, itll be him, due to playing time. Sucks, because we don't know how good he is gonna be... but if McCaffrey passed him, well then...
September 11th, 2018 at 5:15 PM ^
I will like watching McCaffrey grow into be a starter next year. And honestly, I'm looking forward even more to Cade McNamara developing behind McCaffrey. What an exciting player Cade McNamara is!
September 11th, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
The future IS in kids like McCaffrey. And if we entered the season with Peters or McCaffrey as the starter, I firmly believe we would be just fine.
However, I don’t think there is ever a time when you turn down a talent like Patterson.
It has nothing to do with the direction of the program or anything. But he’s a potential first round pick at the most important position on the field. There aren’t many teams in the country who would say “nah, we’ll roll with what we have,”
Oklahoma is a prime example. They get top rated QB commits. They also don’t turn away top QB talent that wants to come in via transfer.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:35 AM ^
he throws a better ball than Patterson.
Well this is false. Patterson threw multiple NFL level throws last weekend.
He has looked good in his back up duties, but also bugs out of the pocket too soon. Plenty of room for improvement, but an encouraging start! Bright future ahead for our QB position!
September 11th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
The long TD throw was behind the receiver. He had to turn around. Real top notch.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
That throw was exactly what this fan base has been clamoring for the last decade. Nico had his man smoked, and all Shea had to do was not dramatically under nor overthrow him. He did exactly that, and wouldnt you know, it resulted in six points.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:24 AM ^
When the DB is beaten that badly you don't throw to hit the WR in stride. There's too much risk of an overthrow. We saw so many overthrows on would-be touchdowns last year.
Shea threw the safe, correct, ball. Additionally, it's easier for the WR to turn around and catch the ball front-on with both hands up in front of his facemask than try to judge an over the shoulder catch at full speed.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:25 AM ^
Do you think Its easier to catch a ball over the shoulder running at full speed close to the back of the end zone, or facing the ball and without worrying about foot placement? Situational placement, why make a throw harder than it has to be? This comment shows how little you know about football.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
Yikes.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:40 AM ^
This is an absolutely asinine thing to say.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:52 AM ^
McCaffery's long bombs have been spot-on thus far. So much better than Patterson. (What are you smoking?)
September 11th, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
If you aren't impressed by Patterson so far compared to the QB play we've had to suffer this past decade then I don't know what the hell has got you so turgid for McCaffrey. He looks plenty good but dang dude- Shea has made quite a few damn tough throws already.
September 11th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Last year's QBs would have overthrown Nico for sure...
September 11th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
So Saturday was the first football game you've ever watched, I see. Hell, you picked a good time to give it a try.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
And Dylan's throw to McCurry was slow getting there. You had a hot take that is rightfully getting dragged by people. Patterson has arm strength and touch, which is why he will be in the NFL next year even though he is short for a prototypical NFL qb. Appreciate Shea this year and we can watch the battle royale for starting qb next year, which Dylan has to be the favorite for at the moment.
September 11th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
It's obvious that neither you nor any of your imaginary friends ever played football.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:36 AM ^
When teams start planning for McCaffrey then i will see how good he is.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:37 AM ^
Why can't we down vote shit threads from shit posters posting shit threads?
September 11th, 2018 at 9:45 AM ^
Speaking of, I liked the old voting method where it would show the number of upvotes and downvotes, instead of the result.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:50 AM ^
Yup, miss the old red and green arrows. But, I am getting old and hate change, so what the fuck do I know.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^
just imagine that OP is like a 75 year old michigan fan sitting around with little to do on this fine late-summer day, and just wants to be a part of the discussion.
Instead of getting incensed, just treat OP like your grandpa. Good post, Grandpa. you're doing it! You're using the internet! I'ma go comment on your post and tell all my friends to go look at it. Way to go Gpa
just think of it that way. it's kind of cute then.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
I am down voting you.

He needs to bulk up some more and get more zip on his throws, but he does look good when in there. Thank God we have depth at QB so the next guy in isn't Russell Bellomy. Let's hope he spends the year as #2 learning the ropes, because Shea looks really good and has demonstrated he can make some tough throws.

Why TF would he transfer? He's a RS Freshman...
Even if Shea stays, he'd still have 2 years to start.
Dumb topic is dumb.
September 11th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
It's all just trolling. I think it entertains his broken brain to see just how riled up he can get this place. He's pathetic. Absolutely pathetic, and probably has a micro-penis.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
Imagine how good our offense would be if Patterson and McCaffrey played at the same time!
September 11th, 2018 at 9:46 AM ^
Yes! This thread will take all the heat off my "can't we just throw all game?" thread!! Thanks for being a jacktard, 303john...

September 11th, 2018 at 9:52 AM ^
Maybe raise the bar to 1000 points to post. These threads are getting out of hand.
Also, you're high if you think he throws a better ball than Patterson. The throw to DPJ in the corner of the end zone was an elite throw that not many college quarterbacks can throw.
September 11th, 2018 at 9:59 AM ^
This is actually a pretty transparent troll. Or a really garbage post. But the transferring throwaway remark at the end makes me pretty sure its trolling.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
Alex Jones conspiracy time: (M/O/P)SU Poster is hoping we will hurt D-Caffs feelings (as_if.gif) by jumping all over the fact that he definitely does not throw a better ball than Shea.

clicked on thread to see mccaffrey's new haircut
September 11th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
The one thing that impressed me was the expression in his face when he was pressed into duty at south bend. Steely-eyed, and like he was where he belonged.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:10 AM ^
McCaffrey definitely does not throw a better ball than Patterson. That said, he moves well and seems to have good football sense. Should be a good backup for now.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
I just checked the weather channel. They didnt say anything about snow in today's forecast.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
I mean, what are the board's feelings on a daily snowflake thread? Holy shit...
September 11th, 2018 at 10:18 AM ^
i just don't see why it never gets old for people who constantly reply to posts saying it's a bad post and OP is bad and it's a hot take, etc. why can't MGoBoarders just let people be? There's definitely good info and discussion around here, but you have to wade through a cesspool every day to find it.
edit: i certainly don't envy you for the mod job, seems like it could be described as one of those jobs that just weighs on you after a time, like telemarketing or whatever. do you get paid to mod? you seem to do a fine job, but my lord the sheeeeeeit you have to read on a daily basis.
September 11th, 2018 at 10:21 AM ^
Exactly 100% the only major problem with this blog. The mods have let long time accounts throw fits and ruin threads just because they don’t like something or someone. There is so much fake speculation about who people are and what their intentions are here you would think this is a game instead of a football blog.
