Matt Campbell would turn down the Michigan job per Dennis Dodds

One of the staff members of Bucknuts.com sent out a tweet about Matt Campbell. Apparently Dennis Dodds said on XM radio that Matt Campbell would not take the Michigan job if offered.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Dennis Dodds on ESPN CFB XM said his sources are saying Matt Campbell is not interested in Texas the two jobs he wants is Ohio State or Notre Dame. He also said Matt Campbell would not take the Michigan job.</p>&mdash; jbook™ (@jbook37) <a href="https://twitter.com/jbook37/status/1336320035002826754?ref_src=twsrc%5E…">December 8, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

This has been directly refuted by multiple people today.

OSU Twitter today (among other idiocy) also tried to claim Matt Campbell as an "OSU guy" only because he was born in Ohio lmao

No shit, why would anyone come here to play osu? You have to deal with all the BS pressure. There’s a bigger problem at Michigan. It’s why we always have a hard time finding a coach.

OSU is a better job than Michigan, but that job is not going to be around for another 10 years. There are distinct advantages to coaching at Michigan than at Iowa State that a coach would want to take advantage of.

Also, I don't think the pressure would turn off Matt Campbell. Harbaugh was given a fairly big leech. I think it is reasonable to speak to a prospective coach and be "Yeah, coaching at Michigan has its share of opportunities, but responsibilities. While we understand that OSU is ahead of where we are right now, the expectations are that we become competitive with them over the years and be able to beat them every 3-4 years. A 0-7 record against OSU will not suffice"

Problem is if you start out 0-3 or even 0-2; people are calling for your firing. Honestly, the fan base needs to know we aren’t in the same ballpark now as osu. Also from an outsiders standpoint, you see harbaugh an alum who played qb here and has won a lot of games and that isn’t good enough...that doesn’t give a potential coach a ton of optimism that would cause them to be interested. Just my opinion. Tough job I think. Hope for the best.

Ah the joy of coaching searches during an era where the media is mostly made of sound bites and trying to be first rather than accurate.  Throw "rumor mill" or "what I'm hearing from my sources" in front of anything and you can say whatever you want during a coaching search.  Buckle your seat belts, this is going to be a bumpy ride.

Also, how many coaches are we up to now that only want the ND or OSU jobs?  ND couldn't even find a good coach for years and now it is a destination job again?  And Texas is just as messed up as Michigan.

We've had 3 football coaching searches in the last 13 years.  Harbaugh was obviously $=#1 on our list and we got him.  How far down on the list were Hoke and Rich Rod?  7th for Hoke?  4th or 5th for Rich Rod?

Maybe Warde kicked the tires on a few guys and got a sense that we'd be looking in the second tier for Harbaugh's replacement.

I agree RR was a hot commodity, he had the "offensive guru" tag and had taken WVU within one game of the CFB championship. However I think Miles was the #1 guy for most of the fanbase, so RR was realistically #2 or #3 depending on where you put Schiano.

Hoke was at least #3 given that Harbaugh was #1 and Miles was probably #2 in 2010.

The only time we got our for sure #1 guy was with Harbaugh in 2014, who we are now displeased with.

Since we only got our top choice 1 out of 3 previous searches it's realistic to think we might not get our top choice next coaching search either.

It's convenient to say OSU and ND when you know those vacancies won't open up anytime soon.  I think he would consider UM or Texas if enough money cannons were shot his way but he doesn't want to publicly feign interest to any jobs that are looking for potential head coaches.

As has been the case for the last decade+, please ignore Michigan coaching candidate news from anyone who doesn't cover the program

National guys can (and do) spew out garbage to get attention with no fear of consequence of being wrong. We've gone through years and years of Harbaugh reportedly refusing to go to Michigan, and then leaving for the NFL every off season we've had, and they've always been wrong. Please don't give clicks to these people and just trust the local sources who might not be the first report, but are almost always closest to the truth

He held for a long time while coaching Toledo, had a lot of offers and turned them all down. He finally took the ISU job, he is a very smart man and knows what he is doing. Plus, he used to be my neighbor. Although I never talked to him.....
