M Basketball Line-up for Today
Lineups for the basketball game against SDSU were just announced and.....Jones is starting at PG.
I honestly don't know what to say at this point. Are they seeing something different in practice? I'd prefer a change at PG but gotta think the coaching staff knows better.

Absolutely shouldn't give up. Sorry if my post gave off that tone. Still have tons of belief in Coach Howard and this team. I think it's pretty obvious they aren't going to be quite as good as originally expected but we shall see how the rest of the season goes.

Give me a break. You really think coaches aren’t bullheaded and don’t see obvious things? How long did we complain about the obvious stuff Harbaugh wasn’t seeing? How about Beilein not playing Wilson until he had to, then Wilson goes pro the next year?

Even though Jones has been very mediocre this season, I think that Juwan knows that for this team to be good we will need Jones to be atleast the fringe professional prospect that we expected to have.

There has been nothing mediocre about Jones season this year, its been flat out abysmal.

We should have patience. Jones and most of the guys that play are freshman. We have to give them time to gel. We don't want to lose to SDSU, but better them than a conference foe. Besides, it wouldn't do well for recruiting the portal if the guy we take is relegated to the bench when he struggles. Jones made a commitment to us, Coach Howard made a commitment to him.

Not in favor of writing the guy off, but I am in favor of getting other options out there. Howard also has made a commitment to this team, and if that means getting the best guys out there then that’s what you do. Jones is not more important than the team.

I disagree wholeheartedly. You don’t play a kid because of future portal recruiting. He is a to machine and it’s costing us games. He’s at the age where he “is what he is”. Give the kids some time and develop them.

Fringe professional prospects are typically good-great college players. Jones has not looked average or mediocre… I type this as Collins is making baskets..

He has not looked good but he was playing well in the G league camp things he was participating in this summer.

I honestly don't care if he looks like an All-American in practice, he sucks during the games. I see it. We all see it. There's no arguing at this point that Jones deserves to be a starter. Honestly, he should be 8th or 9th off the bench, IMO

Fair point. It also seems the mystery around what's going on with Zeb is kind of strange? Sounds like it was potentially mono and he's working his way back. That also might play a part too.

Zeb did play some minutes against North Carolina; hopefully, whatever it is that has caused him to be relegated to the bench is clearing up.

This is college basketball not the Penn St QB position behind a bad offensive line. Guys can play as true freshman and they'll be fine. Ten bucks says Frankie continues to be better than Jones and is the starter within a month. Juwan will finally admit what was completely obvious to fans after that Vegas tournament.

In two of my favorite Beilein seasons, Michigan looked hapless during long periods of time (including blow out losses, ex. OSU). I'll watch, and I'll complain...but, that realization is still there in the back of my mind. The players look talented enough, just suck at Team ball.
I'm pretty sure Jones is just looking lost and dribbling so that we can surprise OSU and MSU. /s
Basketball, I know it's just a matter of clicking and playing correct roles. UCLA was a train wreck that came together late and made the Final Four. Until after the B1G tournament, there's always a chance. So, I'll keep the hope up while sprinkling in my complaints and un-asked-for commentary.
My biggest complaint for the season has been and still remains, Hunter's Defense. Imagine someone making a Youtube video of all the floaters that have gone over Hunter's outstretched arm this year. On offense, the pick and rolls have mostly disappeared this year, and he's had to make almost all of his opportunities based on individual talent/effort while taking on double and triple teams. So, definitely not complaining about his effort/success on that end of the court.

What I want to see from this team is lockdown defense. Great defense has a way of sparking offensive output. They're nowhere near as good as last year's team or any of Coach Beileins teams.
