Someone should ask Governor Patrick Bateman this simple question --- "so what changed?"

The answer to that question is obvious: the politics of the situation.

The degree to which politics is influencing policy --- I know that's always the case.  But it's become especially so of late, and it's disgusting.

A sad, angry poster who shamed any football fan for calling out the phoniness of the failings of B1G leadership.  He played the sanctimonious ‘you are murderous’ mentality towards any fan advocating for football.

He is the kind of guy who makes a passive/aggressive judgmental comment about you going out to eat with your spouse, and then goes to a large family wedding the next day.

The percentage of Golden State residents who approve of Governor Newsom's handling of the CoronaVirus situation has fallen under 50%.  See the link at the bottom.

Now, those ratings have fallen for most Governors.  But I do think it's notable that while Governors as a whole saw these ratings fall from 64% to 48%, Newsom's rating fell from 70% to 47%.  Newsom is under-performing in this regard.

Ditto for Oregon's Kate Brown.  Her rating has fallen from 61% to 39%.

Both those states are inherently more left than right, so I think it's notable these 2 are under 50% despite the demographics of their states.

I've never viewed California as a "lost cause" for Conservatives.  California is a state that has elected a Republican Governor multiple times in this century alone.  It's where Reagan and Nixon came from.  There are plenty of redder spots in the state (San Diego, OC, Placer County, Central Valley, potentially even Ventura up to SLO).

Trump isn't going to win California in 2020, but it certainly can shift considerably more to the right.  And I think Governor Newsom knows this.  I think, honestly, he's a bit worried of what happens in the California state Legislature elections in 7 weeks.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him appoint himself to California's US Senate seat if Biden wins: Newsom can then leave the California budget problem and a somewhat more red state Senate and House in Sacramento to someone else.  Also saves himself a possible electoral embarrassment in 2022.

Net, net: I 100% think this is politics from Governors Newsom and Brown.

I hear there are some real good deals on real estate in downtown Portland these days...beautiful vistas, pleasant aromas!

Nope, real estate in Portland is still insanely expensive because lots of people want to live here!

We’ll get through the fires, and the protests have been a complete non-issue for 99% of people living in the city. Just ask Western, Chunkums, etc.

Soon it’s back to beautiful mountains, beaches, and old growth forests. Beervana, wine country, and a killer restaurant scene. Love it out here in PDX!

Something to add WD? Western is absolutely right.

Thousands of people are now homeless and dozens of lives have been lost in these fires. For some reason, people have decided it’s fun to joke about. I don’t get it at all.

Natural disasters are hilarious right?! That hurricane going on right now is a real knee slapper. smh

WD, you're OK but your ignorance is showing here. Been out there lately? Ever? Know anyone out there?

Protests: Fire bad, yes. Graffiti, too. It would be nice to see meaningful action taken against those people.

99.9% of Portland at the moment (well, unless the fires get really close ... also, ignoring the current air quality): Fine.

Hey, so long as everyone is a willing participant in this experiment I guess it's ok:

“We’re kind of undergoing a natural experiment to see what happens” was the ominous assessment of Cyrus Shahpar, director of the epidemic prevention team at Resolve to Save Lives, an organization that works with countries around the world in dealing with the outbreak of diseases.

“You’re going to get a lot of college athletes with COVID-19 infections,” Shahpar said, “and we don’t know the long-term impact of that.”

PAC-12 after dark, COME ON DOWN!!!

Only thing better would be making my annual pilgrimage to Memorial stadium to see Cal snatch incompetence from the jaws of mediocrity.
