[LOCKED] Per Cornelius Johnson - Plans to "expand" offense

Submitted by bluepalooza on January 6th, 2019 at 10:16 AM

For all of those who thought Shea was "speaking out of turn", sounds like plans are in works to get ball more to playmakers. https://twitter.com/SamWebb77/status/1081927242236727296 [edit:mgowill] This thread is now locked because it has jumped the rails.

i dont think i believe it. one theory i have is that Jim tries to make the offense fit the personnel, but he also thinks all of our TE's are Antonio Gates.

I'll believe it when I see it.  Remember when there was all these rumors we were opening the offense this last off season?  How did that work?

I'm with the seemingly majority of the board that sincerely hopes this is true.

But this seems like exactly something you'd say to a young, talented WR that you're hoping will come/stay committed to your school-- and ignore the fact that you've failed to utilize the talented receivers you already have.

I hope this is true, but this type of off-season talk happens annually and has usually been BS.

While simplifying at same time perhaps.  In other words.  Like Shea said, get more touches and passes to playmakers.  More slants, crossing patterns and passes to playmakers in space.

There are all kind of rumors floating around about Michigan right now and its quite comical around the rest of college football. Speeding up the offense is not what will finally propel the program to join the new game as it developed beyond 1945. The problem is the football culture in Ann Arbor and the arrogance that resides within it. Jim Harbaugh has won 75% of his games since returning to Ann Arbor and that is primarily against teams that cannot recruit as well as Michigan such as Minnesota/Rutgers/ etc. Harbaugh can't beat the elites because of his leadership style. This consists of iron fisting his offense. It's impossible for a man to use his knowledge on offense because Harbaugh won't let him BUT Pep Hamilton is deeply involved since replacing Jedd Fisch and that is 100% of the problem. Hamilton sucks as a coordinator and there is absolutely zero evidence to convince that he is a good OC. He will not leave Michigan either because he is making 1 million dollars. If Pep was so highly coveted by either the college or NFL game then he would have already been poached. No one would approach him to be an OC with a 20 foot pole. This is Jim Harbaugh's fault too because his arrogance keeps his style of leadership intact.

Crazy, other teams are making offers to many of our assistant coaches, but our OCs Drevno and Pep aren't in that situation and have or will end up as something other than an OC. Meanwhile Jed didn't have a problem finding another OC job after M.  I think this speaks volumes.

Exactly, Pep will need to be fired beacause he is way overpaid.  He is the 9th highest paid assistant in the country and makes more than Don Brown.

Shoot, Jay Harbaugh makes 300K.  Where is he gonna go and get paid like that?  Nowhere, because nobody but daddy would pay him like that.

Jim McElwain made 300K last year for comparison.

HOW DARE YOU interject logic into this conversation.

But I like the way you think.

Quite a few good points being made here, but you sir win the interwebz today.

Pep makes a million dollars a year to recruit poorly and contribute ass sludge as his part of the collaborative offensive brain trust. He has never been a good coordinator. He will not start being a good coordinator. Fire him.

Most of Meyer's wins at OSU were against teams who can't recruit as well as OSU.

Michigan is what it is.  Bitching about it won't changer anything. Either you accept it or move on. Michigan doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks.

Just my opinion: What Michigan needs is their 4 best receivers on the field just about every play with Patterson in shotgun.  This spreads out the defense and allows you the option of passing or even running for significant yardage.  This is basic and Harbaugh will eventually catch on (or maybe not as he is pretty stubborn)

The problem with Michigan is we are always reacting to whats happening in football instead of be pro-active. I would compare it to military leaders who fight the last war instead of preparing for a future one. We are the French building the Maginot Line every year and Ohio State just goes around it. We wont the battle to look like the 70's, 80's and 90's games instead of preparing for what the game is now.

I keep repeating myself but it really made me raise an eyebrow when Harbaugh gushed about RPO because he saw Philly do it in the playoffs. Shows a very reactive guy when it comes to game planning and scheme instead of developing a offense that other teams want to emulate. Which is totally the opposite with how he handles recruiting which is very innovative and outside the box.

I’ll believe it when I see it. We heard the same talk all last off season and nothing changed.
